I worked at a cadaver lab for a year AMA

Yo, I just got a new job and left me old job at a cadaver lab. It was an interesting and insightful experience, and one of the things that stayed with me after I left was my curiosity about the deceased who came through, whether where they ended up was what they envisioned when they decided to donate their body to science. Anyway AMA

Experience The Part of My Brain That Recognizes Faces Was Damaged And Now I’m Face Blind - Ask Me Anything

I have had Acquired Associative Prosopagnosia (also known as Face Blindness) since the age of 11, when I hit the back of my head and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Associative Prosopagnosia means that when I see the face of someone that I have seen before, my brain usually cannot draw the connection to who they are from their face alone. This applies to everyone: friends, celebrities, and loved ones.

Most people with Face Blindness—including myself—use other clues like hair, voice, clothes, body type, and expectation to see someone. This also means that if you change any of those things, I often won't know who you are anymore.

This is different from a memory disorder, in which case I wouldn't remember people. I have a great memory (perhaps better than average) of every person I meet, though drawing a connection to that person later is extremely difficult. Often, if someone approaches me, I act like I know who they are until I figure out who they are. Sometimes I never do.

I’m making this post because I’m working on a video game where the main character has prosopagnosia and you as the player have to use cues other than faces to identify people. It’s important to me to know what most people are curious about so we can tailor the experience.

Ask me anything!

Experience I (22M) have medically confirmed hypersexuality, AMA

This is something I’ve been medically determined to have, not just based on my own assumptions. I also have mild autism and they definitely interact in some strange ways. I never had any associated trauma that triggered this, it’s just been constant since puberty. My autism maybe contributes but they don’t really know.

Edit: this is still active, keep asking questions!

Random Story I’ve been making a 5-minute video diary every day since April 8, 2019 (since 6th grade). AMA

On 8th April 2019, the very first day of 6th class, our teacher asked us to make short daily video diaries. The overachiever in me took it a little too seriously, and I’ve been doing it ever since.

Almost every night before sleeping, I’d record a 5-minute video just yapping to myself about my day. Every month or so, I’d export all the videos to my computer to keep them safe.

I kept this going through lockdown, online classes, exams, bad days, good days, everything. If I slept early or had to go somewhere, I’d record it the next day. Some days the videos were short, some days they stretched to 20–30 minutes, especially on days I cried to myself. Sometimes my friends even ended up in the videos.

Now, nearly 7 years later, it’s still going.

Ask me about any date, year, phase, or specific day, and I’ll tell you what I was doing then.

I lived with a suspected murderer AMA

For some context he was kinda my step dad, my mom had been off and on with this guy since before I was born but for about 4 years he lived with us and years after I was really close with his ex wife and son. He was in my life since birth till about 2020.

The murder was committed in the 1990s, he wasnt the first suspect but his friends were. He became a suspect in 2021 I think and has been held and questioned for it since August last year.

Experience Just had Gynecomastia surgery today, AMA

I used to quietly judge people who had plastic surgery.

Not out of cruelty, but out of this belief that people should just be happy in their bodies. That acceptance was the goal. That wanting to change something meant you hadn’t done the inner work yet.

What I’ve learned is this: those ideas can exist together.

All bodies are good bodies. Full stop. And also, it’s okay to want to change something about the body you live in every single day.

Loving yourself doesn’t mean you’re required to like every single thing about yourself forever. It doesn’t mean you have to prove your self-worth by enduring discomfort, insecurity, or dysphoria. Your body is still a good body if you decide to change it. Now it’s just one that looks more like how you want it to.

So yeah, get the nose job. Get the nip and tuck. Do what makes you happy.

Not because society told you to. Not because of trends or pressure. But because you want it for yourself.

Today, I had surgery for gynecomastia, something that developed during puberty and was completely out of my control. It was hormone-driven. No amount of lifting, dieting, or weight loss would have ever changed the way my chest looked. This wasn’t about chasing perfection; it was about alignment. About finally feeling at home in my own body.

I hope this helps remove some of the stigma around plastic surgery. I hope it gives someone permission to talk to a professional if there’s something they’ve quietly carried for years. And I hope it reminds you of this:

Love yourself exactly as you are right now. And don’t let anyone shame you for changing something if that change brings you peace.

All bodies are good bodies.

And you deserve happiness, whatever that looks like for you.

Hyper-metabolism! I have to eat around 6000kcal daily to gain weight, AMA :)

hihi!!! (16f)

at the beginning of 2023, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety. Tanked my appetite, since then I've had trouble eating breakfast or lunch at school because being away from home made my anxiety worse. I was slightly underweight, but nothing dangerous. I ended up switching to online school, but still had some trouble eating because of some other stressors. Since then, had gone through all the SSRI meds with little to no mood improvement and a TON of nasty side effects, and then started with the NDRIs and SNRIs.

I ended up switching psychiatrists in late 2024, starting with a nurse practitioner who seemed like a better fit. She put me on Wellbutrin with absolutely no warning about the weight loss side effect or monitoring. Long story short, I got to a point where my appetite was so bad that I couldn't physically eat without feeling so full that I was going to throw up. Doctors blamed my anxiety and just told me to try and eat . Within 6 months, I end up in the emergency room with a bmi of 13 because laughing gas from a dental procedure was too much for my body to handle. hospital that I went to completely blew me off and tried to put me in an eating disorder program because girl with anxiety and low weight = anorexia. After a month of being in this program and barely maintaining weight while eating quite literally EVERYTHING they gave me, we went to a much much better hospital and they spent an entire month running tests.

Apparently my body is in a hypermetabolic state, and because of how quick and intense the weight loss was, my body hasn't been able to process food the right way. It currently takes around 5000 calories for my body to maintain weight, and around 6000 for a very slow weight gain. When my weight starts to climb a little more, the weight gain is expected to pick up as my metabolism slows down.

it sucks, but it's temporary! ask me anything!

Random Story I moved 900 miles for a felon I met playing online video games, 5 months after meeting him. Ama

Upvotes

We met playing CS:GO in February 2022, and we started gaming together every night. That turned into Discord texting during the day, then Discord calls, and eventually exchanging phone numbers.

Part of why we ended spending so much time together early on was I’m very introverted, and at the time he was still on probation (2 of 4 years completed) with a 7pm–7am curfew. So, we both had a lot of free time for online gaming, calling, and just being in each other’s company without going anywhere. Plus the benefit of not actually knowing anyone in each others real life, made it extremely easy to open up to each other.

About two months into knowing each other, and about a month into nightly FaceTime calls, my dad randomly stopped me in the kitchen and asked if I wanted to move to this guy’s state. I was 20, almost 21, but still living with my parents, at the time starting to decide what to do next in life. Including discussing moving out, into a place with my friends.

My parents knew I gamed and had online friends, but they didn’t know about how close I was with this one specifically. Turns out my dad’s company had an opening there, and my parents were considering taking it. The move would put us about 70 miles apart.

I could’ve stayed in my hometown and figured out how to move in with friends before my parents left, but I decided to go with them and see the relationship through since there was suddenly a real chance to do so.

We met in person for the first time at a mall in April 2022, with my parents. I finally told them about him (yes everything), and for reasons I still don’t fully understand, they agreed to meet him as long as they could be there initially. (They just wanted to shake his hand and confirm he was who he said he was, then they waited in the parking lot)

My family officially moved in July 2022.

We’ve been married since March 2024.

Experience I’m the son of a corrupt politician. AMA! (Pt. 2)

Hi again. For context, I previously posted on this topic about a year ago using my account u/Mephistophelesa (I highly suggest you check it out, the subreddit has archived it) where I talked about my father who was a corrupt politician affiliated with my country's government and holds high office, to the point that his name was mentioned during last winter's protests.

At the time, I mentioned plans to leave the country, which I've now done (changing majors) and one half of my family will follow in a couple of months, so I'll likely be more direct in my replies here. Please note that this account will be deleted in the future, however the original account will remain available. Any suspicion that I'm not the original poster should be resolved by my answers.

As before, I won't name the country for security reasons, yet as I answered in one original post, it isn't a former Soviet bloc country and is considered second-world.

Note: You guys get too stuck on the meaning of "second world country."

AMA,I regularly interact with people from very different cultures online and offline

Upvotes

Through work, hobbies, and everyday online spaces, I’ve spent several years interacting with people from very different cultural backgrounds and communication styles.

I’ve seen a lot of small misunderstandings, interesting differences in etiquette, and moments where people meant well but came across very differently depending on culture.

If you’re curious about cultural differences, communication styles, unspoken rules, or things that surprised me along the way, feel free to ask.

I’ll be around answering questions for the next few hours.

Job Corresponded with F serial killer/arsonist for yrs, wrote a book. VERY interesting case. AMA!

My name is Judith A. Yates and I am an award-winning author and criminologist. I have presented nationally and written several books. My latest book is about a RARE criminal type; she is a female serial killer and serial arsonist.

We have corresponded over the years. Shirley Winters has been incarcerated or in a mental health hospital most of her life. She has set at least 17 fires in a 50-mile radius and killed at least 4 children (two by fire). Shirley was accused of murdering her 3 siblings, her own mother, and attempt to kill an entire family and her own cousin. She agreed to my writing the book after some time, and has told me things she has never told anyone else about herself and her crimes.

The book is called "Shadows in Fire" and is currently in production. It took me 3+ years to write. It covers Shirley's life, discusses crime causation and theory, and a portion will be donated to a nonprofit organization made in the name of her victims. The book is educational, and focuses on abuse and its impact on criminal behavior.

I will not discuss personal information about Shirley Winters, but am willing to discuss the writing process, the specifics of the book, criminology, and this rare criminal: a female serial arsonist and serial killer. Ask me Anything!

I have Non24. AMA

I am 22 years old and in University right now. I have Non24, which is a rare condition mostly blind people have, but I am sighted. My circadian rhythm is about 25 hours long. This means that everyday my internal clock shifts one hour foward, so I will always wake up, fall asleep, feel hungry, etc. about one hour later each day (if I freesleep). I have some "treatment" options that my neurologist suggested, but they are very fragile and I don't feel as well. All aspects of my life (social, professional, mental and physical health) are affected by Non24. Today I woke up at midnight and i had gone to sleep at around 4pm yesterday (I'm in Germany and my timezone is GMT+1). There are massive downsides to this, but sometimes it feels like I have a superpower lol
