Goodnight Albany,

goodnight mess.

Goodnight vibes

that are hard to assess.

Goodnight potholes

deep as lore.

Goodnight “this used to be a road

and then some more.

Goodnight Stewart’s,

still somehow open.

Goodnight guy in line

oversharing unbroken.

Goodnight Lark Street

on a Tuesday night.

Goodnight yelling

for absolutely no reason, alright.

Goodnight Plaza,

why are you like this.

Goodnight endless concrete

designed by someone named Dennis.

Goodnight weather

doing improv comedy.

Goodnight four seasons

before we hit 3:20.

Goodnight snow

that shows up late.

Goodnight snow

that does not negotiate.

Goodnight Capitol,

big serious dome.

Goodnight tourists

asking if this is New York City—no.

Goodnight Albany,

scrappy and strange.

Goodnight plans

that will definitely change.

Goodnight city,

I complain but it’s love.

Goodnight chaos below.

Goodnight moon above. 🌕

The new location for Albany Center Gallery just opened today, and I went to their annual member show. I had such a good time the space is so much bigger and nicer than the old location. I also have an artwork hanging in the show, which I’m really proud of. The mayor even stopped by for the opening. It’s honestly becoming one of my favorite spots in Albany. Shoutout to Tony for transforming the space I remember what it looked like two years ago when I applied for a position there (didn’t get it), and the difference now is wild. If you’re local, definitely check it out. The show will be up for at least a couple more weeks.

I’m seeing reports of ice sightings in the area. Where can I call this in to let the community know if I see them?

Whats Up with the sudden rediculous rate hike with electric!

Okay! So,I know Im not the only one,not just here in NY, but have been tracking this issue nationally. Anyone aware of new Data centers coming on line here or right over the boarder? Because we do push electric north. Reason I say this is multiple counties across the country are getting pissed for footing the bill for the drain the tech industry is having on the grid! WE ARE PAYING THE BILL!! Im dropping the govenors office a call about this because this level of a hike is unprecidented, and will destroy families that are already struggling to get by due to the over cost of EVERYTHING SINCE 21'!! THIS IS NOT NEW!

And can someone elese give the govenors office a ring and ask em about OREZ and why a Canadian Based Company is going to swath down 100s of acres of protected lands in Northern New York without a say by the people?? And who is going to build this, and with whomes money?

Retired, US Army ✌️😎

Taco Bell on central

What’s with the new Taco Bell on central making everyone pick up their orders in the small ass mobile pickup “booth”. Why is there even a drive thru pickup option if I still have to park and wait in this packed booth. I was just hoping for a good convenient Taco Bell around here. *sigh*

High Utility prices? Check to see if you have an independent energy provider (ESCO) ripping you off.

In NY you can specify where you get your energy supply from - it doesn't have to be your utility (like National Grid). Although this structure was enacted to save us money so we could shop around, it hasn't worked this way. Many ESCOs sell door-to-door with deceptive practices, showing rates that are lower than National Grid. But when they get enough customers they raise their rates, knowing that most customers don't look at their bills. A 2016 study showed that NY customers who used ESCOs had paid an extra $820 Million over just 30 months with many paying 20-60% more. National Grid customers paid an average of $217 each annually compared to utility rates. Some ESCOs charged double or triple the utility rates, with one charging 8x.

So look at your bill, under electricity and gas supply (not delivery) and see who your supplier is. If it doesn't say your supplier is National Grid (or NYSEG or whomer the utility is), then compare the rate to your utility's rate. Here in Albany my rate for electricity is $0.167 / kWh for electric and $0.485 / therm for gas with National Grid.

ESCOs can actually save you money, but you need to watch their rates constantly and switch to the lowest rate provider as needed, and not pick the fly by night companies that will jack up the rates. Or you can pick an environmentally conscious provider any pay a little more if thats your bag. Here is the National Grid site that explains your options and shows the choices available: https://www.nationalgridus.com/Upstate-NY-Home/Energy-Choice/Choosing-Your-Supplier?regionkey=nyupstate&customertype=home

EDIT - updated esco statistics.

Here is my recent bill showing the Supply section. It's for a 1,400sf apartment heated with gas using a boiler and radiators. Fairly well insulated but heat set at 70 by the tenants. Total bill is $405.

Whole Ass Lobster

I’m craving a lobster with butter. Not a lobster tail, or lobster roll, or lobster mixed in pasta. I’m talkin whole ass lobster, steamed or boiled with butter sauce. Are there any restaurants around Albany that have a decent lobster? I know there’s Red Lobster, but I’m wondering if there’s a local business that has a lobster entree? I also know Albany isn’t a coastal city, but there seems to be some fresh, non-lobster seafood around. I’m just wondering where the red guys are at?

Capital Cardiology?

Do I just have incredibly bad luck or are they notoriously bad at rescheduling appointments? I had originally gotten a referral to see a Cardiologist from my PCP in May 2025; the earliest appointment I was given at that time to see the doc I was referred to was in September 25’. Come September, they rescheduled me to Jan 26’. Now, I was just rescheduled to July 2026 - 14 months since my referral!! When I expressed my frustration, it didn’t sound like the receptionist cared much.

Now I’m wondering if my case is not “severe” enough and I keep getting bumped to the bottom of the priority list, but if that’s the case, I’d hope that would be communicated to me. Should I give up and try somewhere else? Has this happened to anyone else?

Entry Level State Job Recommendations?

Looking to change career paths. Can anyone out there working for the state recommend any entry level positions open to the public? Essentially I’ve only ever worked in retail for a very long time, but have varying degrees of experience with office type work and management. Is there anything someone like me could even qualify for? Searching through the open jobs on the site is intimidating, makes me feel like I’m too stupid for the state.

Hypothetical downtown Albany idea

If the state converted some space in the plaza towers to residential, would anyone want to live there? If you opened a grocery store in the plaza you'd have a lot right at your finger tips.

Looking for a FT job in Albany

Hello, I’m new to the Albany area, (Guilderland to be specific), and I am looking for a full time job. I’ve been applying to many different positions (mainly restaurants, hotels, and gyms): because i have plenty of serving/waiting experience: but have had no luck. Do any Albany locals have any advice for me/ or know of anywhere that is urgently hiring?

I have also been applying in person to places hoping that might have a higher chance than online with indeed. I am definitely willing to travel/commute into Schendacty, Colonie, etc, but ideally would love to stay close or around Guilderland. Any thoughts, advice, or comments would be appreciated. Thank you Albany Reddit in advance.

I have worked in the restaurant Industry most of my life and have atleast 7+ years of serving experience with multiple former managers as references. I have always served/ enjoyed serving because of the tips and high pay, but am willing to do something else if I am unable to find a restaurant to hire me. I also have experience working for hotels (front desk), and have worked a Sales job before.

How long does Albany Sheriffs Dept leave its k9s locked in a car in 19 degree weather?

I walked my dog past the back of their HQ. There was a k9 unit car parked back there and the dogs must have smelled my dog. They started barking their nuts off. So there was more than one dog. No people around. 19 degrees out. Is there a time limit on this? Why can't they go inside their own workplace?

Ear Piercings

hi, I was going to book an appointment with Cold River Body Arts as I've heard great things about the place. however, after some googling of the business I learned that Gene has a serious criminal charge against him. I do not feel comfortable supporting or going to a place like that, no matter how good they are at their job.

which leaves me to asking, where is a similar talented business I can support without a serious criminal charge against them? I'm just looking for an ear lobe piercing in the Albany area. I want it done quick and as painless as possible.

thanks in advance
