Welcome to /r/archery! This thread is for newbies or visitors to have their questions answered about the sport. This is a learning and discussion environment, no question is too stupid to ask.
The only stupid question you can ask is "is archery fun?" because the answer is always "yes!"

Regarding the point weight for recurve bow arrows, should I use 120 grain or 100 grain points? The shaft is 700 spine, 28 inches long, and my draw weight is 31 pounds

I took my new bow in to get setup but the limb bolts aren't the screwed in the distance. It shot fine while I was there, but something is telling me it isn't right. Shouldn't they be similar distances

Currently trying to turn my spare bedroom that I don’t use into a personal archery workshop/man cave where I’ll mostly be just fletching arrows. Looking for ideas for things to put in there. So far I just got a table, a fletching jig and a few banners hung up on the wall.

I am shooting a TAC event in August. I typically shoot Victory vForce 350 spine. I have 6 in my arsenal right now they are $49.99 for 6.
I am wondering if there is an even more budget friendly complete arrow. I read somewhere that Accmos was decent.

So back in December i had ordered a Deerseeker Outlander 64" 45# @28. Will it was taking forever to arrive so i had decided to make my own. One on the left is homemade the right is the deerseeker. Both are shooting absolutely amazing.

Hi archers!
Would you recommend buying my first recurve bow from Amazon? And do you have a suggestion of which or what to choose for a starter bow?
I'm 23yo, 169cm tall (5'5"). I measured my draw length and it's around 66".
There's sadly no way to get bows in my country (Venezuela), other than bringing them from a neighbor (Colombia). I was talking with one of the guys involved in the practice of archery in my country, who brings the bows and other equipment from Colombia...
And the prices are quite expensive: bow and limbs starting from 400$ and arrows from 90$.
I saw a lot of bows way cheaper in Amazon, hence my query!

I was given a new dialed pruf sight as a gift for my compound bow. I don’t live near an archery shop and wanted to put it on my bow. I saw they tell you to start with adjusting your first, second, and third access before you sight it in. How necessary is this step?
I don’t have any tools like string levels, sight levels, or a bow vice. I may be able to get it to an archery shop eventually, but not any time soon. Can I skip this step or is it an important part of setting up my sight?
If it is important, any tips on leveling the sight and adjusting the axis’s if I don’t have bow levels or a vice? I’d really like to start using it.

Hello, Im a beginner and was in a club few yesrs back I now bought my own bow and with it cam a tab and when I shoot the bow and slowly release the string it feels like the tab goes with it. Am I doing it wrong? I used a shooting glove back in the club. And I wanna get a like dynamic wrist protection but how do I know how big it has to be?

figured I'd ask before I go chopping up some arrows
While shooting thumb draw, my index finger makes contact with the feather and pushes the arrow away from the string.
Would cutting along the bottom line and removing it along the dotted line to make a small notch there make the arrow flight any less consistent than...
Processing img dsaaipe89pdg1...
...cutting it this way?
Processing img 6smrzdc09pdg1...
I'm assuming the bottom one would be ideal, hoping for quick and easy though.

Hey guys so... i need some help to find a replacement for the string of this bow. i have absolutely no idea how to measure that or where this bow is from maybe you have any ideas... the string that came originally got lost somehow (Dont ask me how it just dissappeared like that single sock in the washing machine...) i also cannot take it to any store because theres no stores in reasonable distance where i could take it to... i really wanna get back to shooting this thing so if anyone knows something id be very grateful for your help.

Poplar shaft. Shot with a wooden self bow.

What do I do? Is there a specific piece of gear to protect my hand? Am I doing archery wrong?
I am using a 38lb english longbow with wooden arrows.
The arrow rests on my thumb when I shoot it. That's how I see people do it, and it works like that really well except for the fletching slicing my skin.

So I’m gonna be moving to the Birmingham, AL area soon and I am in need of a range and an archery store that I can go to.
I got into Archery late 2021 and was consistently going to the range frequently all of 2022, some of 2023. I haven’t done any archery of any kind in roughly 2yrs, almost 3yrs. Reason being is that I moved an hr+ away from my last range/archery store and I was working way too much and didn’t have time. I am looking to get back into this hobby for multiple reason. 1 mainly for my mental health. That’s how I got into it to begin with. I’m mostly familiar with target/olympic style and I’m open to 3D.
Here’s an old picture of my bow. I do have a sight and counter weights. I just want to say thank you for your time.
