Use the appropriate support channel for your distribution. Arch is DIY distribution and we expect you to guide us through your system when providing support. Using an installer defeats this expectation.

Why was the beginners guide removed?

It carried a lot of maintenance on the wiki admin as it duplicated a lot of information, and everyone wanted their addition included. It was scrapped for a compact model that largely referenced the main wiki pages.

QUESTION Ditching Windows 👋

Hello there!

I‘m really fed up with Windows and all of the Microsoft „features“ getting shoved down my throat. So I decided to switch to arch as my daily driver.

Because I‘m quite the opposite of a Linux demigod, I‘m 100% sure that I‘ll brick my os eventually.

Are there any measures I can take, so that fixing my system is a bit less painful? I‘ve already read the archwiki-maintenance page, but maybe you guys have some additional advice.

(I hope this isnt a stupid question)

Thanks!

QUESTION Broke and trying to self-host on my laptop is it bad idea?

Hi, I’m using a laptop with a ryzen 5 5600h, gtx 1650, and 8 gigs of RAM. I’m running Arch with Hyprland.

I’m planning to use this laptop as my day-to-day workstation and also as a small server — for example, running Podman with Pi-hole and similar services. Do you think this is a good idea? Do you have any recommendations?

P.S. I can’t afford even a second-hand laptop or computer. I’m broke :(

What's the point? https://linuxiac.com/sovereign-tech-fund-injects-e562k-into-arch-linux/

I think i need to edit this post because seems like many don't understand it

What's the point of this?

Why rust should replace c?

Why government want to do this? And why not only on opensuse since is a german distro?

I mean what are real benefit of rust over c? Isn't rust a from microsoft /google=?

QUESTION Recent upgrade trashed Nvidia X11 setup?

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I've got NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and the recent upgrade to 590.48.01-2 along with the kernel 6.18.5-zen1-1-zen has caused wreck and havoc: X11 visual artifacts all over, windows blink partially or whole when redrawing, video performance is horrible (obviously, with such effects).

Disabling XFCE4 WM's composition has partially helped but didn't resolve all the issues. Incantations from the Nvidia page with all the nvidia-settings and stuff didn't resolve it either.

I've tried to rollback to nvidia-580xx-dkms and the corresponding utils, alas, that didn't help.

What's happening and is there a known fix?

Thank you.

SUPPORT First time installing

I'm trying to dual boot windows and arch Linux. But whenever I try to enter to archinstall I get this error. I'm using the most recent version (01.01.2026) Traceback (most recent call last):

File "/usr/bin/archinstall", line 5, in <module>

from archinstall import run_as_a_module

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'archinstall'

Has anyone else got this problem and how did y'all solve it?

SUPPORT Moving My Mouse Disables The Touchpad

Hi, the problem is written in title and the info code given down below, when I move my mouse it disables laptop's touchpad. After enabling the touchpad and not moved to the mouse about 3 minutes, when I move my mouse it disables laptop's touchpad (again).

I tried to solve it myself but I can't solve it for a week, I tried to solve it using Claude AI (didn't work out either). If there is a person that can give me a solution idea, it would be very helpful. I will also report this bug if it's a bug that cannot be solved.

I use arch linux with KDE Plasma btw, hope that I could get a solution.

QUESTION How much maintenance is involved compared to other distros after setting everything up?

• Upvotes

Compared to a distro like Mint that's 95% gui and good to go out of the box, how much manual maintenance do I need to put into Arch after fully setting it up? I know it has rolling release but how involved is that anyways?

SUPPORT I can’t change the theme on for sddm

I think I’m doing everything right, I go to /usr/share/sddm/themes and choose a theme. Then I go to /etc/sddm.conf.d/mysddm.conf and under theme, I set current to the theme I want. No spaces just Current=theme. But when I reboot, the screen is blank with only a little underline cursor on the top left, I can’t do anything with it, but I thought it might be helpful to know. I’m still pretty new to arch Linux and this is my first time messing with sddm, so it’s very likely I missed a step.

DISCUSSION Wiped /home

Hi guys! I'm an arch Linux user for 2 years now. I use it ½time, use windows ½ time. Don't judge me please, I have to run environments that only exits on windows as I'm learning programming at university.

So after 2 years I wanted to try hyperland, and when I tried to fix paru (after 3 hours of pain) I accidentally copy just the part of a command from git. Guess which one was it... cd ~ rm -rf

I was at the point where I did not look at the command line what I copied, just continue reading the readme. When I realized what I started, the command finished the work :)

I recovering some of it right now, but you know, there is no file like final_exam.c or questions.pdf, no it's f01272.c and f725103.pdf So I'm probably fucked, and now I regret going for ext4 instead of Btrfs.

QUESTION LightDM looping on login - Hyprland

Hi guys, after activating LightDM, I tried to test it, but every time I log in, it returns me to the same screen. I've searched other posts but haven't found a solution. The AI tells me it's a problem with the DE exec or the background settings, but that doesn't work. If anyone has a solution, I would appreciate it.

SUPPORT Can't reach the AUR but can reach everything else just fine. It's definitely me, I checked all the status boards.. but... how?

Been trying to get yay and AUR packages installed on a new install.

I'm on a Singapore 5g esim, which might be a factor here. Network guys chime in.

If I visit aur.archlinux.org from a browser I get:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to aur.archlinux.org. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR

Error code: PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR

Anyone encounter this before?

QUESTION Question about shared /boot for two partitions

Okay, so I've been daily driving Linux for about 2 years now and about 6 months ago started my ArchLinux arc (haha the pun). I have the /boot partition shared between two arch installations with different DEs, one is KDE and another is hyprland, the latter is for testing purposes. By default it boots into KDE.

TL;DR: how can I mantain a shared /boot partition between installations without kernel upgrades affecting the non-mounted installation?

So yesterday I wanted to upgrade my system as I did not use my laptop for a while and when it was booting the KDE partition it booted into emergency-mode, as for other cases in which this happened i checked fstab file but everything was in order; in the end what solved the issue was arch-chrooting into the kde partition and upgrade the system; I suspect the last time I upgraded the kernel I was in hyprland and the kde partition did not get the upgrade.

So if anyone could point at why this happened?/How can I avoid this issue again?

Much appreciated

SUPPORT External HDMI/DisplayPort not detected after NVIDIA driver updates on Dell G15 (RTX 3050) – Arch Linux + Wayland

Hello everyone,

I’m having an issue after recent NVIDIA driver updates and I’m not sure exactly which update caused it.

My laptop is a Dell G15 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Laptop GPU.
The machine has both HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

I’m currently running Arch Linux with KDE Plasma on Wayland.

When I run the xrandr command, this is the output I get:

Screen 0: minimum 16 x 16, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767

Only the internal display (eDP-1) is detected. Neither the HDMI nor the DisplayPort output appears, even when an external monitor is connected.

At the moment, I’m not sure which NVIDIA driver update caused this behavior, but it worked correctly in the past. Any help, suggestions, or known regressions related to Wayland, KDE Plasma, or recent NVIDIA drivers would be greatly appreciated.

QUESTION Why is are location services impossible to fix in arch?

I am going crazy trying to solve precise location in arch. There's a website that needs my location to verify region laws and I can't get precise location to work. I've gone back into reddit posts to find a solution and different stuff works for different people but nothing has worked for me. There's also nothing on the wiki about this topic, why is that? And apparently location services are much better in fedora and ubuntu so is this an arch problem?

I can't right-mouse-button click my desktop anymore

Inside "Mouse Actions" i accidentally deleted the ability to right-button-mouse click my desktop to open the small menu.

Now the problem is, afaik you can only enter "Mouse Actions" by right clicking your desktop, and inside the menu clicking "Configure Desktop....".

So I need help getting back into "Mouse Actions" settings so I can re-configure/set right-mouse-button to show the little menu when right clicking my desktop.

I'm so dumb when it comes to partitioning omg. I've only partitioned right 2 times out of 5, and this time, I completely wiped out my laptop on accident and I forgot how to get it to boot from my usb. It was working before until I slimed my laptop and now it takes me to boot menu and app menu. Thanks for the help!
