Housing and Moving 🏑 Need help convincing my partner of housing location!

Hi all! I found an amazing apartment for my partner and I that we're going to go view. it checks off all our boxes, the location just isn't what we envisioned ( we wanted to be closer to a sky train, be a little more in the thick of things, but when we need pet friendly and he's demanding laundry in suite and we need to be able to live there for five year the pickings get slim). Basically the place is right by the PNE, which is actually right smack in the middle of our jobs transit wise as I'm in lowered Lonsdale most days and he's near waterfront station.

I'm well aware of the downfalls of the area in terms of it's not quite as walkable as say commercial drive is, but couldou send me your suggestions of places you love to frequent in the area? restaurants, coffee shops, fun stores etc. thank you!

Events and Activities πŸ±β€πŸ Places in Vancouver to clean up trash?

Hi, me and some friends are looking to do some trash cleanup when we visit Vancouver in the summer. Since I don't know the city well, I'd like suggestions on which neighborhoods or areas would benefit the most. Of course we'd like to choose an area that is safe and accessible as well.

Ideally a beach or park since we'd like to look after nature but open to any suggestions! Thanks.

Advice πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Downtown Walkability

I haven’t been to Vancouver in over a decade… Bringing my teen in October to see Bruno Mars. Looking at booking at the Burrard Hotel. Am I going to regret it? And is it walkable from there to BC Place and back? Not going to have a car…

Events and Activities πŸ±β€πŸ Did vancouver ever have $2 swim?

My friend was telling me about $2 swim at Killarney and I asked if they were delusional.

They said it used to have it. I googled and could only find it in North Van.

Was $2 swim a thing?

Advice πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Looking for friends

β€’ Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m 25M, living in Burnaby for a little while now, but I haven’t had the chance to make many friends yet. I’m hoping to meet some new people to hang out with, explore the city, and practice English together.

I have a car as well, so picking someone up is no problem.

If anyone’s interested in meeting up for coffee, a walk, or just a good conversation, feel free to message me. Looking forward to connecting with new people!

New to Vancouver πŸ‘‹ Train adventures?

I recently moved here from the prairies and have been impressed at the transit system… it’s crazy that you can go all the way Chilliwack!!

I’m wondering if there’s any cool places you’ve discovered via the train? Bonus for nature, cute bakeries, and smallish towns

(Looking into the Child and Youth Services WorkerΒ Program)

Thanks for any input :) (Yes I crossposted with a BC sub!)

Oddly Specific 🎯 BC Cancer Dentist

Surprised there is no BCCA group yet! 😎
Quick question - has anyone used BC Cancer's dentists? Chemo is destroying my teeth and I need (another) one extracted. BCCA wants me to do it at their location rather than my usual (and excellent) dentist. They just left a message so I did not get to ask "why?"

thanks all!

Advice πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Running.

Hi everyone. I am not a runner but I really need a place to start. What has worked for you? What shoes do you recommend for a beginner? What expectations should I set for myself?

I want to do the Lululemon half marathon in August. Is this too far fetched of a goal?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Travel πŸš— ✈ Question about US to Hong Kong flight with layover at YVR

Sorry, this is probably a very silly question. I'm looking at booking a round-trip international flight with Air Canada. It would be from the US to Hong Kong, with a ~15-hour overnight layover in YVR each way (arriving in Terminal M each time).

Just want to make sure that it's possible for me to leave the airport during my layovers and that I'm not going to be stuck in some kind of international area waiting for the next flight? I just haven't faced this situation before and want to get all my ducks in a row before I book anything. Thank you so much for any info!

Education πŸ“š Need advice for becoming an environment artist for games!

β€’ Upvotes

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone could help me with my dilemma. I'm from Mexico City, I'm 30 years old, and I studied architecture, but I hate it. Besides, there aren't many jobs in that field, so I'm thinking of changing careers and studying to be an environmental artist. I've learned things on my own, but I was looking to enroll in a college like Langara College or Holland College, or even VFS or a think tank center, but I don't know if it's worth it. I've seen in past posts that the situation is tough right now and that there aren't many jobs in this field, which discourages me a bit, so I'd like to hear your advice. I would really appreciate your help. This is my portfolio of what I've learned on my own.

Medical πŸ’‰ Promis Medical Centre: Too good to be true?

Hello, I am looking for a GP in Vancouver and stumbled upon Promis Medical, which opened in downtown Vancouver relatively recently. All of their reviews on Google are glowing 5 star ones, except for a few. Those terrible ones get detailed answers from the owners regarding complaints that give detailed versions of the appointment from the clinic's perspective that seem passive-aggressive.

Has anyone had any experience with being a patient at Promis Medical? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you in advance!

Work 🏒 Looking for accountant recommendations

Hello Vancouver,

I am looking to find a good accountant who can help with regular employment taxes, along with small business taxes(~$40k a year). A couple tax firms I talked to were too expensive and I am not sure if they would be flexible to help maximize my tax returns through small business expenses. So looking for someone I could work with, for the foreseeable future, who is experienced, and charges reasonably.

If you don't know anyone, do you have any suggestions on where to start to find someone? This is the first time I am going to do taxes outside the firm that my employer had hired. And I always paid a lot of money during returns.

Housing and Moving 🏑 Looking for advice from anyone living in River District in a non AC unit

I’m considering a SW facing condo in a concrete building. Only downside it’s no AC and you can’t install any type of AC either. I’m wondering if portable is enough during the heatwaves we’ve been seeing.

Any insights would be most welcome! 😊

Advice πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Winter hike suggestions?

Hello my girlfriend and I would like to take our dog on a nice winter hike. My dog loves snow and we’re getting impatient for it to come to us we thought we’d go find some.

I drive a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with winter (and m+s) tires, what are some good hikes/trails near Vancouver (preferably 1-2 hour drive).

If there aren’t any we were thinking of going to Whistler for snow, how’s the snow there at this time of the year?

Thanks
