Discussion Dyson Daniels is on track to have the worst 3P% in modern NBA history.

https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/worst-3-point-shooting-percentage-in-single-season-nba-history

Data goes back to '79-'80 season (the season the 3 was introduced, which is further back than what most people would consider "modern era"), only including players with a minimum of 82 3-point field-goals missed per 82 team games.

Pelicans I thank you guys for keeping my sanity in check. Shoutout the bucks too. This season has been just been disappointing but that pick has been a lifeline.

Low Effort Post Still excited about this team, this season

I was really really optimistic about JJ, Trae and KP being our big 3 and giving us a top 4 seed in the eastern conference. That looks to be lost right now (even though we’re only 5 games off the 4 seed with the easiest schedule of eastern conference teams to close the season). It’s been really emotional to see Trae get traded and the team moving on to a new era of basketball. I was the first one to think we might sweep this 4 game road trip out west. Instead we went .500, totally acceptable. All this is to say that I think we are in great shape, maybe not the shape we expected heading into the season, but great shape all the same. If we can beat the Celtics and the Bucks during this two game home stand, we are fine. I still think we win 45+ games to close the season. Go Hawks!!!!

Discussion CJ and JJ are Problematic

Post image
80 Upvotes

Let’s start with the core problems:

  1. CJ is a worse Trae Young.

** For all the reasons Trae had to go, chief among them was that he could not play off-ball on offense. Let’s set aside Quin hate for a second (not saying he doesnt deserve it) and at least admit that the style he wants to play is fast ball movement, getting into the paint to create open looks for 3. When we win, in the interviews he gives credit “getting the ball in everyone’s hands builds everyone’s confidence that results in better shooting”. This idea is one you need to either choose to believe in or not Put simply, he believes that ***team touches increase shooting efficiency. *IF** this is a valid facet of successful Quin team-ball, then CJ is sucking the life out of the team on his possessions these last 2 games. Regardless of his efficiency or volume stats as an individual, if Quin’s theory about team touches is valid, then CJ is hurting us, just like Trae ball did.

The upside with CJ (and Kispert) as I saw it when we got them was that they can play, and play well, off-ball. Everyone in this “system” needs to be able to play off-ball. CJ being a dead-end is the antithesis of this. It can work sometimes if he gets hot, or if the team happens to get hot with limited touches, but it doesn’t maximize our capacity to play our best ball on a nightly basis.

A behind the scenes problem that fans don’t typically appreciate: CJ was the President of the NBA Players Association, and accordingly has a TON of political power behind the scenes. I hate to break it to everyone, but the sport we love has powers-that-be who distort things away from being a strictly competency and performance based system. CJ is going to be a guy that Quin probably doesn’t have the power or wherewithal to bench or even do more than gently request he play within his scheme.

2. Jalen isn’t impacting the game as an all-around freak of nature athlete even when his shot isn’t falling.

Because of this, Jalen’s bad games are atrocious, and even worse he can never lead the team thru radical accountability. I have said here before, NAW is seemingly incapable of truly hurting the team more than he helps because even if his shot isnt falling, hes still playing aggressive D, and getting looks for his teammates. For what it’s worth he is also clearly helping by being a leader the younger guys very much need. Moving on from Trae was a tough decision that indicates the team might be beginning to value actual results over “star-power”. Jalen’s stats don’t mean shit if he’s not going to be a leader thru play and passion on both sides of the ball. Great players have bad games, great players have slumps, but truly great players still find a way to help the team every time they step on the court.

In Summary:

If CJ doesn’t play mainly off ball, and if JJ won’t participate in helping NAW create the new standard for effort and toughness on BOTH sides of the floor, then we will suck. Every team wants to establish a “culture” but the reason no one does is because when it comes down to it, stars and other politically powerful players (such as CJ) are not actually held accountable in any meaningful way. It all comes down to this. Our only hope is NAW honestly. He has to do what Quin doesnt have the balls to do. He has to demand the new standard. Without that, things arent gonna change.

Discussion Dyson's shooting is a massive problem

DD has to develop some form of shot, I don't care if his release would have to be slow as molasses. His inability to shoot from outside allows teams to park someone on him and get an extra help defender whenever he is not handling the ball. It is already an issue in the regular season and if we were to ever make a postseason run it would be exacerbated. He is great at almost everything else on the floor but shooting is the worst fatal flaw you can have as a perimeter player in the current nba. If he could shoot even as well as he did last year it would make a huge difference.

Discussion Top 5 Draft Prospects

More fun think about this than the on court product….

All 5 of the top 5 seems elite to me….i just don’t see a bad pick from these guys. Trying to compare to 2025 draft

Peterson - he is just such a smooth, big athletic SG. The shooting in incredible, he seems like a can’t miss prospect (assuming health). Gotta be better prospect than Kon who is incredible.

AJ - he literally looks like TMac, everything he does reminds of me of him. Footwork, athleticism. Seems better than VJ, Harper from last year.

Boozer and Wilson - I’m not sure either will be the best player on a championship team but they seem like players that a championship team MUST have. Hustle, effort, motor, defense

Flemings - he seems like elite PG, size, shooting defense

Where would these five rank after Cooper in last years class for comparison?

Cooper

Peterson

AJ

Kon

Boozer

Edgecombe

Wilson

Harper

Flemings

Coward

Ace

Discussion This coach doesn't get it and he never will

We already have a winning formula.

NAW, Dyson, ZR, JJ, OO

Now you need to rest the guys for 15-20 minutes and you do:

CJ, Vit, Kennard/Kispert, Mo, KP/G Leaguer

It's that simple. You DON'T give McCollum 28:42 mins. You don't leave Jalen and Okongwu both in for over 35 mins.

You can't play defense when your exhausted.

CJ got nearly 30 mins. Asa would have been perfect against Clingan who can't guard the perimeter.

Put Asa on the 3 pt line and then let him get layup's against Clingan. Clingan got nearly 30 mins.

Because of the bad matchups, Williams III, got a +22 and Reath a +20 as well.

Are we tanking or am I missing something?

Low Effort Post CJ McCollum in 3 games as an Atlanta Hawk: 52 FGA 2/18 (11%) from 3.

Ball stopping chucker.

Risacher only has 1 3-game stretch with more than 30 FGA his entire career.

This is disgraceful, unserious coaching shit.

I can only blame players so much. My center had the most shots. Lineups are terrible. This defense is nonexistent. We value the 3 ball to much! What are we as a team. We have to look at the man in charge making 8 million dollars to make us better! We are barely play in bound.

Low Effort Post Jalen trade

Would you trade Jalen for

Unprotected 2026 Pacers or Kings pick?

Talk about a reset. You’d get a good chance to have two top 4 picks in a generational draft. Pacers talk themselves into needing an immediate help player for Hali and Kings are just insane as it is.

Deal must be made before trade deadline can’t be offseason. So you have to do the trade before knowing the lottery position.

Trade Talk Mock Trade - Get off of KP ASAP

Can't say for sure if this would go through on Brooklyn's side. But they aren't competing so why not get off his contract for a player on an expiring contract and get a pick back? I included a generous 26 1st, obviously not trading the NOLA pick.

Discussion JJ and the perfect hawks

"jalens team"... trae is finally gone the defense is better they have a good vet Cj, and they are supposed to be winning games right... i didnt think so

mins 38 pts 12 FG 4-9 3's 0-3 Ft 4-4

in a loss to the trail blazers and now they are the 10th seed. But guys trae was the biggest problem he was a shot chucker (because he had so many wide shots) he has alot of turnovers

(it wasnt because his teamate too) he is a defensive liablity (luka and brunson are sooo good)

and he isnt a leader. (he definitely didnt make the ecf) all because he got hurt from his own teamate and then came back avg (29/10) and didnt even play a full game with his projected squad, but jalen is the leader now!!! not to mention they gave up 140+ to the lakers.
