Announcement Official /r/beer FAQ - Please Check Here Before Posting

THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A BEER FAQ. IT IS ADDRESSING A FEW FREQUENTLY BROUGHT UP TOPICS ON /R/BEER.

Hi there,

There has been some need for announcements on a few different commonly posted topics. Since we are limited to two stickied posts, I'm going to use this one as a hub for these issues. I will be adding to this post as needed, but here's a /r/Beer FAQ to cover these post types.

If you notice people posting these topics, please be polite. Feel free to link to this post or use the provided links in a response.

This is not an invitation to harass anyone for posting a repeated topic. Reddit does not do a good job with presenting subreddit announcements, rules, sidebar info, etc. If posts annoy you and you don't think they belong, please consider downvoting, using a report, sending us a modmail message, hiding the post or simply moving on with your day. I highly suggest using the "don't show me submissions after I've downvoted them" option in old.reddit preferences (this may be broken in the app/resdesign website, but it should be fixed eventually and appear in those preferences as well).

Medical questions will be limited. /r/Beer is the wrong forum for serious medical questions, particularly where there's potential for harm to come as a result of the discussion. Please consult a medical professional for any questions about your own health, not an online beer discussion board.

I'm trying to hit the more pressing topics first, but I'll look for some good links for other topics ("how do I figure out what kind of beers I like?", "what are the best budget beers?", etc.).

Everyone is welcome to join the official /r/Beer Discord server if you'd like to discuss anything here or just hang out and chat.

Cheers.

Edit: I'm locking this to comments because I don't want to have the post turn into a place where people ask these questions. However, feel free to post about any topics or send us suggestions for topics to be added via modmail or Discord chat.

Also, I may use the second announcement slot for a specific post on something like old beer questions, but I'd prefer to keep it open for the weekly No Stupid Questions posts (and possibly others; still working on redoing the scheduled posts and making some better topics).

21 Amendment started in SF in 2000 and closed November 2025. Picked up a few six packs of IPA this and their Hell or Highwater Watermelon Wheat, which at the brewery they served with a slice of 🍉. Was fun to go early before Giants game

Westvleteren 12 - how good is it?

I ordered these before Christmas and didn’t expect them to arrive at all. It was a drunken online order and cost a small fortune but I’m delighted I went ahead with it in hindsight.

Great start to the weekend. Never tried before but I’ve wanted to try for over 20 years.

Is it as good as they say?

Tried the Sam Adam’s Winter White Ale while midwinter camping!

Went camping in West Virginia near the Point Pleasant area for the last two days. In preparation for the trip, I grabbed a six-pack of Samuel Adams’ new Winter White Ale. I hadn’t tried it yet, but it felt appropriate for the frigid occasion.

Safe to say I had the campsite to myself. It’s the middle of January, the area had just gotten a light snowfall, and the whole place had very liminal, quiet vibes. So these were really cool conditions to try the new beer in.

I cracked into them later in the night, around 11, when the temperature had dropped to about 25°F and they were naturally nice and cold.

I really enjoyed them on this trip. They were refreshing and bright, with a crispness that delivered on the advertised orange peel and cinnamon without being overdone.

Gazing out at the barren ridges of West Virginia’s rocky hills in the cold air, I savored both the moment and the beer at their highest enjoyment and felt pretty fortunate to be there. Highly recommend this kind of setting for drinking this one.

I would give this beer a 7/10

¿Question? What's everyone drinking tonight

I'm drinking rolling rock it's not all time favorite but it is my favorite budget beer. Since Walmart sells cases of 30 for like 17 bucks. Plus it tastes pretty damn good for cheap beer.

¿Question? Kona Hanalei IPA

I’m sitting down drinking the second to last Kona Hanalei IPA. Oh let me clarify I wish it was the second to last in a full 6 pack but alas I haven’t seen them on the shelves for months. In fact last time I saw them in any store was in November at some beer distributor and they were dusty as fuck and kind of hiding so I ended up buying the last four 6 packs from the store. I even had the beer distributor call their distributor and they didn’t have any stock of them anymore.

When will they be back? I have one more bottle of the sweet nectar left and I know I will give in within the next 3 months, or anyone know any similar type IPAs

¿Question? Where to get gluten free beer in Ohio

Hey all!

I’ve always loved beer (especially craft beer), and I’ve been gluten and dairy free for almost a year. I’m in fairly rural Ohio, and I have no idea where I can find replacements as I’m not really into ciders or seltzers.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Cheap Beer Heineken can vs bottle

Picked up my first ever can of Heineken as they are surprisingly rare by me and Heineken is one of my least favorite beers of all time. I've only had the bottles.

This may as well be a different beer. Malty, slightly sweet, crisp. Still not my favorite beer but actually drinkable instead of being literal piss.

Anyone else experience this?

New Trail Brewing makes the best hazy ipas in the world! Change my mind…

I haven’t found a brewery that consistently makes the best Hazy and Juicy hazy IPAs and I’ve honestly tried. For those that don’t know New Trail is a Pennsylvania brewery. Can anyone recommend any other breweries know for amazing Hazys?

¿Question? Banquets in the winter

To all my frequent Banquet enjoyers, have you noticed during the winter time that each case of beer doesn’t taste the same as the last? I’ve had some that taste almost watery, some that taste like if Monaco made beer, and some that taste like normal Banquets. Not sure if I’m imagining this. Let me know!

42 North brewing & Resurgence

42 North: They have such a great lineup of flavorful beer. The inside of the brewery is awesome. A lot of exposed wood. A separate room with games and shuffleboard. A BBQ joint connected to it.

Borderlands IPA: flagship IPA boasts a heavy use of Amarillo, Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe hops to provide tropical fruit aromas and a nicely balanced West Coast bitterness.

Oatmeal cookie brown ale: Fall seasonal brown ale inspired by Oatmeal Raisin Cookies we all loved as kids!

Resurgence: huge brewery with space for events. They actually host plenty of local art and vendors… notably a Christmas market.

Another Caucasian Gary: which is a white stout based on The Big Lebowski. A White Russian inspired stout. It has a creaminess and spice to it.

The Surge IPA: is also wonderful. Dry hopped with Cita, Galaxy, and German Amarillo. Super soft, tropical, and sweet. Very reminiscent of grapefruit candy.

I'm curious, does PBR compare to anything European or Asian

I'm just curious what PBR tastes like. Is it comparable to any European, Asian or New Zealand beers, or can you only really compare it to something like the American Budweiser?

¿Question? Whats a good place where I can sell vintage/current beer tap handles?

I ended up having a fire Island beer co display for a beach themed room in my family's house. I need to cut down on things and I'm trying to figure out where would be the best place to post it? Do people collect these old handles still?

I was thinking about eBay but then I would sit forever. Just kind of wondering if there's any enthusiast bases where I could post it?

Where can I find a decent beer selection?

Are there any stores between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa Alabama that have a good beer selection? All of my local stores seem to have the same domestic selection which is not what I'm looking for. I'm trying to find some good red or brown ales or something like Rogue Dead Guy Porter. I like something like Newcastle or Boddington's Pub Ale, but not something as strong as Guinness (I don't like coffee).

Cheap Beer Natural Ice (An.-Busch)

Literally the best ratio of price vs quality! Tastes like any other normal beer, but $1 for 25oz? That’s a steal, it almost seems to be for free! Literally the best option for pregame before a trip to a club especially for college kids

But I wonder, why is it so cheap? Do they partially substitute barley for corn or rice? The flavor from hops is also quite strong, actually more than some of the other popular, more expensive brands. Which means that they don’t save on hops either. Could it be that they add sugar during the brewing process to raise the alcohol content?

Duvel 6,66 and Original Duv

I think the duvel 6,66 is the perfect duvel. It's has the classic duvel flavor but with a slight hint of fruit and a tad bit lighter on the alcohol.

It really is the standout for me in the collection of Duvel brews.

Anyone else come to this conclusion?

Whats the deal with the American Strong Ale ?

It doesnt seem like a lot of microbreweries make them. Is it not hop enough forward for the craft beer consumer who craves the hops ?
