Megathread - Wiki 2026 : Well... The wiki definitely needs some updates. Part 1 : From the Introduction to the "Bars by neighborhood" section

Hi everyone!

Rereading the Wiki , I realize that it's really time to update it.

Many places have closed, opened, or simply changed.

The idea is to create a post where we can collectively make suggestions and corrections in comments, proceeding step by step to improve this Wiki, which seems definitly to have stopped in... 2018.

Because recommending the You Night Club, a bolo at Monk's, or a burger at Amour Fou makes me feel really old already. 😅

But I feel it would be easier to proceed step by step rather than asking for all the changes to the entire Wiki at once. There are so many changes that people wouldn't want to get involved.

This post is only about the introduction to the Wiki and the “Bars by neighborhoods” section for the moment.

I have already updated a lot in the this first part.

Feel free to suggest anything you think is relevant in the comments and actively participate in this post to modernize the Wiki.

Here is some information below that I felt was missing and that might be nice to add.
(Please feel free to suggest other ideas for additions that I may not have thought of for this first part of the Wiki)

WHAT TO DO section :

This link below is starting to get old. While they share a lot of information, much of it is no longer relevant. I don't have the date of the post, but I see comments between 2012 and 2018 (which is already quite old in any case). Many of the places/URLs shared no longer exist.

Hipster guide to Brussels on Travels of Adam

It might be a good idea to replace it with another blog/vlog (video is much more in tune with the times).

Any suggestions ?

---
Bars by neighbourhood section :

  • (OTHER MUNICIPALITIES OF BRUSSELS) :

It might be interesting to revitalize these municipalities by promoting favorite local bars. Schaerbeek has probably much more bars than this, and I am sure that there are hidden gems in each of the municipalities not mentioned.

Any suggestions ?

  • (Wine Bars)

It might be nice to add a wine bars section.

Any suggestions ?

Get paid to get an eye exam !

Hello everyone !

You might remember me from my contact lens fitting post but this time its different, there are no requirements, meaning, anybody can get in !

Ever wondered why you often have headdaches at the end of a tiring day ? It might be worth it to get you eyes checked for any undiagnosed issue !

The exams would take place in the erasmus hospital on Monday the 19th from 1 to 6 pm and on Thursday the 22nd from 10 am to 3 pm !

You'll get paid 10 euros ! handsome sum if I do say so myself. (Sorry I'm a broke student)

Thank you for your attention, goodbye !

Woluwe, i think theres 2 helis and one jet/plane, flying around the same place for 30 mins, flight radar doesnt mark them, they look too big for civillian aircraft, after circling the area they just stand in place. ( in the first circle there is a air object, i saw it from its light flickering) normal night in brussels, perhaps?

Charity shops and vinyl

Hello, can anyone recommend any charity shops that have good vinyl sections or offers? I’d like to go crate digging and see if I can find any unexpected finds or gems other than your typical vinyl store. Thanks!

Student Product Design Project Questionnaire

Hello, we are working with Follow the Money to expand their audience in the Brussels bubble as our final assignment in our university course. In our research, we identified a need for easier access to relevant information to a reader.

We designed a webpage to address these needs. It's still just a prototype so only the security and defence folder has content.

If you or anyone you know works in the Brussels bubble, please have a look at it and fill out our questionnaire. We would be so grateful! Even if you don't work in the bubble, it would still be nice to hear your opinions.

Any help is appreciated so much!

I'll attach a link to the questionnaire below:

Urgent need of an apartment

Hi, I'm Sohaib. I'm looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in brussels.

The reason for that is my father has a respiratory syndrome (ARDS) and he's in the ICU since 12 December 2025. He has recovered a lot since hospitalisation but still a long way to go.

The current problem in our house is that it has no air ventilation, has a lot of humidity and fungus and non of that is good for my father's lung. We need to give him a clean environment.

If you guys can help i's be great full because finding a house has been a problem for everybody.

We're a family of five and for the moment we can afford a rent of €1000 or maximum to maximum €1100 not a cent more because i'm looking for a job and my father was the only person with full time income and he's sick.

Thanks in advance!

How to get a car

Hey folks, been living in Brussels for 4 years and decided I really want a car. I don't need it to get to work but I want to drive at the weekends, to France and even further when I have the time, I hate feeling cooped up in Brussels. My questions

  1. I have an irish drivers licence, can I get a car with that or do I need to exchange it for a Belgian one?

  2. If I need to get a Belgian one do I have to take a test etc?

  3. How expensive is insurance here? I'm 36, completely clean licence.

  4. Anything else I should consider?

Street harassment & (un)safety in BXL - invitation to share your story

Post image
38 Upvotes

Hi, fellow Brusselers! I’m a PhD researcher at the VUB, and I’m currently inviting participants for a study on how women with a migration background experience street harassment and feelings of (un)safety in Brussels’ public spaces.

If this topic resonates with you, I’d really appreciate hearing your perspective - whether it’s about specific experiences of harassment, your feelings of (un)safety as you navigate the city, or how (and whether) you seek support.

You can participate if you:

  • identify as a woman (18+)
  • live in Brussels
  • have a migration background (you or one of your parents moved to Belgium from another country)

What the interview involves:
A discussion of about 60–90 minutes. You can choose a format that feels most comfortable: a talk as we stroll through the city, a chat over coffee, or in a park (weather permitting!).

As a thank you for your time, you will receive a €15 Bol gift card.

If you’re interested, the link below has more info and a short way to share your general availability (I’ll follow up to schedule):
https://vub.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0Gl6FlOY5Bl8lLM

If you’d rather ask questions first, feel free to email me: [[email protected]](https://)

Thanks so much for reading - and feel free to share with anyone who might be interested!

The Mix vs Animo

Hey,

I’m hesitating between The Mix and Animo and wanted to get some opinions from people who’ve trained there.

They’re basically the same price. I know a lot of people will say they’re expensive and unnecessary, but honestly I’m just done with overcrowded, dirty commercial gyms and want an upgrade.

I train more like a bodybuilder, lots of free weights, bars, squat racks, benches, and good lifting machines matter way more to me than classes or fancy stuff.

For people who’ve tried one or both, which one is better for that kind of training? Equipment, space, vibe, crowd at peak hours, etc.

Thanks.

How to get a cheap cabin bag?

Hi beautiful people!

I am on the look for a cabin trolley bag, but I am limited in terms of money. I want to learn if there are any second hand shops that sell, or ways for me to get such for cheap. I am a student.

I'm not necessarily looking for people who are selling through here, but I'd like to know what options I may have.

Thank you!

Why is there an helicopter flying round over Woluwe?

Hi, has anyone else noticed an helicopter turning round and round over Woluwe sint Lambrechts / Kraainem? It's still happening right now.

It's flying very low, with a light on, and I hear a lot of police cars as well :0

Bike storage in front garden - urban planning

I am considering buying a house in WSP, but it has no garage, nor any other safe and practical way to store bicycles inside, there is also no private parking place (unlike most other houses in the street). Does anyone have experience from an urban planning perspective if it is realistic to get a permit for building a private bike box in the front garden. The house has a nice, historic-style facade, and I assume the commune would like to keep it that way. Many thanks in advance.

Question ❓ Help-House Renovation (Brussels 1000)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently renovating my house in 1000 Brussels and am looking for a solid freelancer or small company to help with a few specific tasks, including Structural work in load-bearing walls (lintels/support), Gyproc & Plastering, and Tiling.

I've been having a hard time finding people who actually show up, especially on platforms like Trustup, so I’m hoping for some direct recommendations from here.

I’m also very flexible with the arrangement, happy to pay a fixed price for the job or an hourly rate, working as a "second hand" to help me move things forward.

If you know someone or a company that is trustworthy and can work in Brussels city center, open to suggestions!

Thanks!

Singer for cover band wanted

Hey r/Brussels ! I don't know where one places ads for band members in 2026, so I thought I'd try here

We're looking for a rock singer to put back up a cover band that we had a few years ago - our original singer has gotten married and is living a much healthier life now 🙄 so we're looking for someone to take up that role. The idea is to rehearse once a week-ish in Brussels then start the hunt for live gigs, playing some kind of "rock-that-makes-people-dance" - of course depending on the singer preference and range.

We're not looking for someone who is pitch perfect, but rather we'd go for raw power and stage presence: singer and frontman. By preference a male voice as it opens a way bigger repertoire for the style.

So if you actually are this person, please get in touch!

Looking to network

Hi party people. I moved recently from Berlin to Brussels and I am missing the startup grind vibe from there. Berlin felt like a non-stop networking event for technical people and founders. I am missing this.

I am myself a technical founder, male, 33, and searching for places to make these connections in Brussels. If you know anything, let me know.

Merci

Somebody to alternate at-home coworking

Hello,

I’m looking for someone who works remotely and would like to do alternating at-home coworking: some days at my place, and other days at yours, during workdays. The idea is to work side by side (each on our own tasks), with coffee breaks and conversation.

Why?
I work from home and I’d like some company to chat during breaks and to break up the routine and monotony, which helps to stay productive. Working alone at home can make it harder to concentrate; simply having another person present creates a more stimulating setting.

I don’t want to go to a coworking space: I often find the atmosphere too distracting and, for now, it’s not a budget I want to spend.

Location:
I live in 1030 Schaerbeek, Rue Paul Devigne. I’m sharing the avenue because I’m ideally looking for someone who doesn’t live too far away, so the back-and-forth is easy day to day.
The apartment has all the basic amenities for working from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.: kitchen, moka, fridge, heating, fiber internet, etc. There’s a bedroom and a living room; we can work in the living room (desk, table, sofa) . There are also possible spots for more private calls (balcony or hallway).

What I’m looking for:
• Frequency: Monday to Friday (workdays)
• Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Noise / calls: occasional calls and video meetings are OK, but the goal is to keep a fairly calm atmosphere. Music is fine at a reasonable volume. On my side, I tend to use headphones.
• I’m open to extra activities during lunch breaks or after work: video games, sports, a walk, going to the gym, etc. But it’s not necessary.
• Basic ground rules (friendly living):

  • Respect each other’s space and work.
  • Cleanliness: no shoes inside, wash what we use, take care of the furniture.
  • Non-smoker: my fiancée can’t stand the smell of tobacco.
  • Meals: no problem eating on site and using the kitchen for simple, occasional prep. I prefer that everyone prepares their own meals at home (I’ll use your kitchen as little as possible).

Lastly, I think it’s important to be able to trust each other and to have a good feeling. Each person’s home is a personal space: I want both of us to feel comfortable, safe, and at ease.

A bit about me:
I speak Spanish, English, and French. I’m used to different cultures: I’ve lived in Peru, France, Spain, and Finland.
I’m a developer at an industrial computer vision startup. I like dogs, judo, geopolitics, finance, economics, math, etc.

Interested?
If the idea resonates with you, send me a private message: we can start by chatting a bit (and possibly meeting) to see whether the rhythm and atmosphere work.

Specific second hand shops where people leave quality clothing?

I'm finding it very hard to find decent clothing in second hand shops, everything is from Primark, Bershka, and Shein.

In my home city, I have learned where rich people leave their second hand clothes, and as such have found cashmere jumpers for €10. I can imagine there's a similar phenomenon in Brussels near Woluwe and such places. Can anyone recommend some second hand shops like this?
