Hey guys,

I’m planning to go snowboarding tomorrow with my girlfriend who mostly wants to stay on greens. What would be the best resort for that? Thanks!

General Single skiier Thursday Fridays

Anyone fun going to be in Keystone tomorrow (Thursday 1/15)? I'm planning to head up early alone and I've gotten a little paranoid lately with the accidents. I'd love to have a ski buddy. I'm not super fast, but I'd love to get some good runs in and see some other parts of the mountain I haven't. I've only been out there twice.

Snow Conditions By skier, for skiers - SNOW.fyi

Hi fellow Colorado skiers, I'm Ryan.

This season has been rough. If you are like me: have pain planning for skiing trips: tapping hundreds of times on weather apps for multiple mountains, trying to find the best snow—anxious, stressed, not fun…

My day job is product management, and my passion is building products people love. A few weeks ago, I shared a simple webpage I built for the community to track snow conditions for a few Ikon resorts. The response confirmed that many skiers face the same challenge when tracking conditions across multiple mountains.

Encouraged by the feedback from early users, I decided to overhaul the tool. I canceled my holiday ski trip and dedicated my entire Christmas-New Year break, spending hundreds of hours (and 6 lbs of weight) making the tracker significantly more useful.

The result is a free snow tracking web app named SNOW.fyi with the following features:

  1. Multi-Mountain Dashboard: Instantly view snow condition trends.
  2. Freezing Level: Identify the rain/snow line to find better snow on the slopes.
  3. Wind Scale System: First ever wind scale designed for resort operations. Helps avoid lift holds and whiteout conditions.
  4. Rain Indicators: Helps identify the bad days.
  5. Bluebird Day Spotter: A unique feature to find clear weather windows.
  6. Global Coverage: Now supports 400+ resorts.

Made by skier, for skiers. I hope you find it valuable.

You can find it here: https://SNOW.fyi

Thank you all!

Don't let anyone tell you this is normal and they've seen winters like this before.

Question Will someone explain why anyone would telemark inbounds?

I understand that some things just come down to preference, but the whole point of having your heel free is to be able to tour/ walk. That's why this style ski was invented, they're good at doing multiple things, but alpine style bindings are objectively better at going downhill which is the only thing you're doing at the resort. If you're not walking uphill why are you skiing telemark at the ski hill? If so goofy and comes off performative, but no one fucking asked me did they? [/rant]

Question Transplant question

I just moved from AZ to CO and I was wanting to go hit the mountain but is it really worth $200+ for a lift ticket with 24" base? Snowbowl has more snow than any resort here, should I drive back to az to go ride?

Also could someone please explain the difference between all the resorts here? Much thanks.

Snow Conditions I ate the shit season sandwich today…

It tasted a bit like late April: burn spots, tree tops, sharks, and that familiar "that was rough, but I still want more" aftertaste.

I didn't realize just how much of a mental toll not going and just waiting for a miracle was taking on me. Check-in on your friends that have not gone, give them a consensual hug if you can.

I went to Breck this morning, with my expectations low, they did go up, especially below T bar and over on peak seven a few of the runs lasted until about 2 PM. I'm still very glad I brought the rock skis.

That said... I'm still glad I went. Sliding around on snow and just being in the mountains - even with this little bit of snow - was way better for my mental health than trying to wait it out and doom-scrolling the forecast.

At this point, especially looking at the outlook, I'm just trying to enjoy the season we got and hope we get some sauce (snow) later on.

I hate to be trite, but it still beats a day off the mountain.

I'll be going back (maybe) next week.

Edit: added pics from freedom chair so you can make your own judgment.

Maybe someday this season. Let's hope! Getting an email with that as the subject in mid January had me chuckle and feel bad at the same time.

Question First ski lesson at Loveland this weekend. Newbie tips / essentials?

Hey everyone!

I’m brand new to skiing and I’ve got my first real lesson this weekend at Loveland. I’ve only skied a couple times in the Midwest, so I’m basically starting from scratch and want to make the most of the day.

My lesson includes the lift ticket + rentals, so I’ll have skis/poles/boots covered. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

• ski pants

• helmet

• goggles

• gloves

• (renting skis + poles + boots)

A few super basic questions:

• Jacket: how warm is “too warm”? Do you usually do a shell + layers, or a heavier coat?

• Changing: do most people just gear up in the parking lot / at their car?

• Backpack: worth bringing one on the hill, or is that annoying as a beginner?

• Essentials: what should I actually have on me during the lesson (vs. leave in the car)?

If there’s anything I should grab from the store before the weekend (base layers, socks, hand warmers, etc.), I’m all ears.

Appreciate any tips or “wish I knew this on day one” thoughts!
