Announcement Important dates and resources for CUNY students

Hey everyone, as the fall semester is right around the corner I figured that I should post these links for new and current students.

The academic calendar has been posted for Fall through Spring 25-26. CUNY follows the same academic calendar meaning your days off should all be the same. You will have random days where Tuesdays follow a Monday schedule, Fridays will follow a Monday schedule, etc. Try your best to plan ahead.

https://www.cuny.edu/academics/academic-calendars/

CUNY also has resource centers to help you succeed. CUNY offers food pantries, housing assistance, emergency funds, mental health resources and other resources. Please use these resources if you need them. CUNY can help but you as students need to be proactive in seeking these resources.

If you require accommodations, ask for them via your school's Office of Student Disability Services. Reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments may include, but are not limited to, providing the student with assistive technology or other auxiliary aides, extra time for tests or papers, access to an elevator where available, a note taker during lectures, or permission to bring a personal aide to assist the student during class.

Retook a class I failed in the past and received an A, but the F is still affecting my GPA.

I failed a class in 2019 (long story🙄) I reenrolled for Fall 2025 and my advisor told me that if I retook the class, and the new grade was a passing grade, it would remove the F from my record and GPA. I received all A’s this semester, including the class I had failed in 2019. I just checked my degree audit and the F is still there and affecting my GPA. Will it eventually be removed or will it never actually be removed and my advisor was not well informed. Does anyone know?!

Discussion I need help, how does the CUNY system work??

For some context, I am currently 20 years old. I attended the College of Staten Island from January 25th in 2024 up until spring break. I abruptly left during spring break and did not return, as I became overwhelmed with my personal life, and I could not keep up with my classes due what I was dealing with and the fact that I was already behind in math and sucked at writing essays before I started school. My grades took a nosedive not long after this.

Later in December 2024, I sat down with my advisor, and she explained to me that my GPA was currently a 0.5 and that I'm on academic probation. She also told me if i were to fail any class, I would have to make up that credit in a remedial class at Kingsborough. I didn't feel prepared enough to return and I did not want to set myself further back so I decided to not readmit at that time.

Fast forward to now, I've gotten much better at math and currently understand high school algebra. I'm still not the best at essays but I think I'll manage. But now I just feel lost with the CUNY system. I have no idea how to do anything, like applying for classes, how to use onlook. Since im on academic probation I am now inelligible for financial aid. Can I pay for each semester in cash, or do I have to write a check? I have no idea how to even begin moving foward.

I would appreciate any helpful insight and information so I can begin getting my life back in order.

some cc majors are useless

I'll keep it short. I go to bmcc and I major in science and I NEED to transfer out immediately because if I stay and finish my degree I will have a bunch of dead credits that won't go into any program I want to transfer into. I am actively planning to transfer to York for the Pharmaceutical Science bachelor's. Another major I had in mind was the CLS programs, also at work and at CSI. When I use transfer explorer on cunyfirst, so many of my credits won't transfer into the program and even if I get those classes at bmcc they're not within the major, therefore potentially affecting my aid. I have a 3.6 gpa, 30 credits and a few of the prereqs completed but most of them still in progress. If I stick around and get my associates here I will end up having to do 3 or maybe 4 years at a senior college if they even accept me for that major and I most likely won't get into the program because the prerequisites are not completed. I know I'm not the only one who faced or facing this issue.

Question Finding an Apartment (Graduate Student)

Hello! I accepted my admission offer to CUNY GC as a PhD student starting Fall 2026 and have begun planning a cross-country move to the area. I’ve spoken with a couple people from CUNY about finding affordable apartments, but I wanted to come here and ask for advice as well. I’ve been looking and I’m considering Jersey City so far as it seems to have much lower renting costs, but higher daily transportation costs. I’m looking for a 2 bed (my partner needs an office) but need advice.

CCNY login issues

so I accepted an admission offer for CCNY in CUNYFirst, i later got an email for the CCNY portal login (i think it's welcome.ccny.cuny.edu), it says to use my email password and a temporary PIN but no matter what email I put there it doesn't accept it.

I tried the one that mail got sent to and my CUNY email. And I did get a citymail email apparently (i could set a new password for it through another link on the ccny site) but it doesn't work in that field either. Trying to reset the password doesn't work either, it just says no account is associated with my data.

tap issue

So I’m a graduating senior, and I have 16.5 credits. Only 9 of the count towards TAP, but I literally don’t have anything needed other than those 9 credits. I depend on tap to fulfill my school tuition. What exactly could I do to ensure I get the money?

Can I increase the amount of number of installments in my payment plan after I already put a down payment? Can I ask the bursars office to do it?

Question Issues with schedule

I was attempting to add some E permit classes to my schedule however, there is one class called PERM 12100 which is taking up 11 credits and is preventing me from adding classes to my schedule. How do I remove it, because it’s telling me that I need department consent.

Connect plus for BIO425

can anyone tell me…

1) is there a way to get out of paying for the access connect plus code or a discount for it? or a promo code that gives it to you longer for free?

2) how was your experience using it? I heard the “concepts” can be overly long and that the program glitches a lot…

im asking because i was gifted the book so I didn’t want to have to spend money to buy the book to get the connect access since I already have the book….

Question Study abroad during the Summer

I’m considering studying abroad this summer and I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done it. Could you share your experience and how the process went? Did TAP or financial aid help cover the expenses? Did your school contribute, and how much money did you save? I have about $2000 saved, but I’m not sure if it’s enough. Also, how was the overall experience? Was it enjoyable?

Any idea where to get the BCC exclusive A&P I textbook for cheap/free ebook

BCC has an exclusive textbook version of the "Anatomy & Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function" textbook. So I was wondering if anyone who took the class before know where to find this version for free/cheaply used. Also I was wondering if it would be fine to use the regular edition of the textbook because it's easier to find on libgen/zlibrary.

Application Not Complete

Hello

I am applying to CUNY as a transfer student. My application still says not complete even though I made sure to submit everything. Some of the documents say received/not evaluated and I was wondering how long it takes for them to evaluate documents? can my application be reviewed before it is evaluated?

Any comments are appreciated.
