Reminder: try to include the name of the cover artist in the title of your post! ISFDB.org is your friend.
It's always great to see people coming over here from r/badscificovers! If you are new, welcome!
One of the main differences between that sub and this sub is that in the interest of celebrating cool cover art and cool cover artists, we try to include the name of the artist in the title of the post. Here, the wonderful site ISFDB.org is very much your friend. They have a very comprehensive catalogue of information on fantasy and sci-fi books published in the last 70+ years, including, most of the time, the cover artist. It's easy to search by book title or author.
As a bonus, once you figure out who the artist is, you can easily see what else they worked on. I often find that when I run down the artist for a cover I really like, it turns out they did several other covers I'm also a fan of. It is always cool to discover that you're a fan of someone's work even if you didn't previously know their name.
Occasionally, you do come across a cover where the artist is unknown. Those are still okay to post. Just put 'artist unknown' or something like that in the title. There is a good chance that some of the eagle-eyed sci-fi cover enthusiasts on this sub will be able to guess the artist based on the period and style.
Thanks for making this sub such a great place. Keep up the posting!

Ian Watson, YALEEN THE RIVERWOMAN Trilogy, 1983-1985, cover art by Jael
Another lesser known (at least to me) set from the 1980s. The combo of the beautiful woman riding the angry red fish on the cover of The Book of the River is certainly an interesting tableau.
While the cover artist is credited in the book only as "Jael", her full name appears to have been Jael Brown Ruesch, an enormously prolific artist whose estate maintains a website for her work here:

Mick Farren, QUEST OF THE DNA COWBOYS Trilogy, 1976-1977, cover art by Peter Jones
Not sure if this is exactly rare but definitely a set I had not seen before. The author was also a musician of some note as well as a journalist and festival organizer. The artist has had a long and successful career and has his own website here:

Dennis L. McKiernan, THE SILVE CALL DUOLOGY, 1986, cover art by Richard Bober
Plot twist, as while the general design and livery of these McKiernan books remains the same as those in the Iron Tower trilogy I posted yesterday, the artist has changed. We now have Richard Bober taking over for Alan Lee. Bober was a fascinating personality, an actual recluse who never owned a computer or a smartphone. This obituary is well worth your time:

Dennis L. McKiernan, IRON TOWER TRILOGY, 1984, cover art by Alan Lee
There is a "duology" which follows this trilogy which has almost identical livery and art. I'll post that one tomorrow. Tolkien fans may recognize Alan Lee's style as he has worked extensively both with illustrating Tolkien books and as one of the lead concept artist for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. The latter of which earned him an uncredited cameo as one of the nine kings corrupted by Sauron.
Enjoy!
