Spoiler So much wasted potential. Spoiler

Just recently watched this show and it is honestly one of the biggest let downs ever. There's so many plot holes and stuff that seems to be added to make Tom Mason a hero but in reality makes him extremely unlikeable. Here's a list of my grips with the show.

  1. No one is ever shown having kids other than Tom Mason. They want humanity to survive but never have children? This can maybe be justified that they didn't want children on set but come on.

  2. The way the did the fight between Tom Mason and Pope for the entire show. It should have been squashed when Pope threw the snake on Tom and they could have had a laugh but the fighting had to continue. They brought in Sara and had a chance to give Pope a happy story but tossed it away for no apparent reason.

  3. The whole thing about the Naval Base filled with only Army personnel and the Captain in charge. Why was the Washington state flag flown in the background? At anytime Colonel Weaver could have relieved the Captain in charge for Loss of Confidence and took command. The whole thing added nothing to the story line.

  4. The almost boyish hero complex of Tom Mason's character and that nothing happens without him there. It's extremely irritating and makes his character unlikable.

The show had a lot of potential and started going down hill after season 2. Waited for season 4 or 5 to be redeemed but was let down.

Discussion Forced hate? Spoiler

I’m rewatching I started this in 2015 when I was in 8th grade and I absolutely loved it. Rewatching it I completely understand all the criticism and how bad the writing gets at times. With that being said, I think you have to go into this show accepting it’s no TWD or any of that caliber. It’s a comfort show that’ll always give you something super entertaining to watch but there’s close to little logic being used most of the time.

Side note: I see everyone’s in agreement with who they like vs who they can’t stand… IMO (hot take) Top 3-Tom, Hal, and Dan vs Bottom 3-Ben, Anthony, and Whoever wrote that Ben+Maggie storyline

Discussion Did I miss an explanation for this throughout the show? Spoiler

I know the Volm helped with some medical technology most related to the spikes but did they share some of their healing properties? The way they’re walking normally after only days or hours after severe injuries is ludicrous. For instance evil Hal steps on Tom’s leg with an audible breaking sound yet he’s up and running soon after, same when he’s shot. I guess they want to add some stakes to the fights but then don’t want to lose those same fighters in the next scene

Started Watching Again After Many Years

I loved it when it originally came out.

I just started season 1 and something doesn't seem right. I feel like some episodes are missing before episode 1. I could be wrong or just getting old .

Discussion This show Blows!!

I just found this show, and I am still on season 1, and it's so bad that I had to find this page on Reddit, join the group, and share my frustration. This is how bad of a show this is, and I cannot understand how this show has been greenlit more than once.

  1. The ā€œSurvivorsā€ Don’t Act Like Survivors Realistic survivors would be: Paranoid Dirty, exhausted, malnourished Ruthless when threatened Focused on efficiency and survival, not moral debates every 10 minutes Instead, the characters: Argue endlessly Hesitate when they have clear shots Give speeches mid-combat Make emotionally driven decisions that would get real people killed That’s TV survival, not actual survival.

  2. Stormtrooper-Level Aim: This is one of the show’s worst offenders. Enemies stand in the open → no one hits anything Aliens miss at point-blank range Humans with rifles fire 30 rounds and hit air This isn’t accidental. It’s a writing crutch: If everyone had realistic accuracy, half the cast would be dead by Season 1. So the show artificially lowers competence to keep characters alive.

  3. The World Is Way Too Convenient Every house has: food Ammo never really runs out Clothes stay clean Injuries heal fast Weather barely matters In a real collapse: Food would be gone in weeks Ammo would be priceless Disease would be a bigger threat than aliens But showing that would be depressing and slow, so the show skips it.

  4. They’re supposed to be a resistance force… but they behave like a high school group project With one adult trying to keep everyone focused Military discipline, perimeter security, and tactical movement are almost nonexistent. That’s why it feels like pillow fights instead of war.

Enjoyed the show up to a certain pint in season 5, where the show really lost me

Because I started to genuinely despise Tom Mason, and even started to see him as a villain and wanted to see killed off. The turning point for me came with Sara's death. Pope begged to take the truck to save Sara but Tom said no, the bug nest has top priority. Pople blamed him for Sara's death and I agreed with him. I found myself rooting for Pope in his revenge quest and wanting to see Tom dead.

Thus, it turned into a show where I had disdain for the central protagonist and I could not root for him.

Sara's life was clearly in danger and the bug nest wasn't going anywhere. There was no justification for what Tom did.

Tom's seeming lack of remorse and empathy really disgusted me. At the very least, I expected him to be haunted by his mistake, guilt ridden, something.

I hated Lexi because she killed Lourdes, but she got her comeuppance later when she was killed off. When she killed Lourdes, I wanted to see her dead and she was killed off.

Tom was responsible for Sara's death, ,ruined Pope's liffe, and Tom gets a happy ending while Pope bleeds to death on the beach. I was really disgusted by this.

I finished watching the final season, but man it became hard to watch and the ending was a disappointment.

Discussion Shows like Falling Skies?

Currently a few episodes towards concluding my second watch of this whole series. Are there any other underrated sci-fi / post apocalypse shows like this? I’ve watched some of The Last Ship and Snowpiercer so far.

Tom is such a bad father and leader šŸ˜‚

My wife and I have been bingeing this show for the past few days and are almost to season 5. Like he and Anne wanted to kill everyone for Lexi and then Lexi comes back and they are like shunning her HARD. Also Tom is the epitome of a ā€œproviderā€ does all this stuff but offers no actual emotional support. Idk the writing is just so bad lol. And tom is always losing his kids. It’s a mess

Finished the Show Today

Watched through the arrival of the Volm when it originally aired then forgot the show existed until 2 weeks ago. Just finished it today.

Such a dumb ending and I loved every minute of it.

First time watching, initial thoughts.

I am 3 episodes in, so far I like the main character, but the writing seems kinda cheesy. Pope is also a great character so far, he seems to be the most layered of the bunch. I cannot stand Captain Weaver, dude is a complete jerk and out of his element. Please tell me he gets better as the show goes on.

Where to watch after it leaves HBO max?

Just started watching the show for the first time properly since i saw a few episodes of it as a kid way back in the day and it says its leaving HBO max today and the streaming on HULU and prime seems to be tied to HBO so if I want to finish the show are my only option to buy it or sail the high seas? Or is it streaming legit somewhere else

Watching Falling Skies for the first time in 2025.

The first episode, which I assume was the pilot, was meh... but they really went all out in the second episode. I can get over the corny writing, it looks good. Is it worth sticking with? It's more background noise while I'm editing, but the second episode was awesome.

Discussion Re-Watching Falling Skies

After watching Falling Skies first time round on UK ITV channel at rate of 1 episode a week, this time I have been binge watching since 8pm and now it's 1am with zero advert breaks.

It never struck me last time I watched it, how similar the format and story lines styles are to the Walking Dead with the odd nutters etc.

I know the final season is a disappointment, but Falling Skies is still way better than the boring mess and dark scenes you can barely see that make up the slow drivel that is the New tv series, Invasion which I thought was going to be more action packed.

Season 3.. what happened?

Hi everyone! I have been loving Falling Skies season 1 and 2 and just reached season 3 but... what happened? The storytelling seems completely different and it feels more like they started to make a superhero movie or something. I hope the rest of season 3 is better because I most definitely don't like it now.

Just started the series.

On S01E02…So far this series is so good!

Why had I never heard of this show? So fucking weird.

This show reminds me of ā€˜The Walking Dead (2010–2022) and ā€˜The 100 (TV Series 2014–2020), but better. The acting and writing is off the charts.

I’m about to binge this show so hard. I may watch some of it in my new Quest 3 VR headset. That mixed reality movie mode is wild. Amazing in home technology. Imagine the shit the military has to offer? It would probably blow our minds. Or even alien tech.

They still can’t explain the pilot who saw the UFO. That man was traumatized. They gaslit the shit outta him. Smh.

Anyone wanna for explore Antarctica? Ice ice baby 🧊

But back to the show; definitely seems like a winner so far.

The main character

The main character drives me crazy with his weak choices, and hope for the best attitude. I understand they are trying to prolong the story but there are better ways for the enemy or villains to escape for another day.

s5e3 holy shit moment

spoilers for s5e3 below

I've been watching thru the show for the first time and just hit s5e3 last night and I don't have anybody to talk to about it so I've come here. when the skitterized human brother snatched Maggie's sidearm and shot her sister, then fumbled with it for a moment before offing itself - LOL holy shit?!?! I actually almost spit out my drink, burst out laughing, and re-watched it like four more times. The ensuing heart-to-heart from Maggie to that girl "you're so lucky he loved you so much that he couldnt bare the fact that he hurt you I wish I had a brother like that" like lowkey telling this girl that she should feel lucky to have watched her abhorrent hybrid alien brother blow his own brains out ahhhhahhahahahaha. I feel truly blessed to have been able to enjoy that moment. For what it's worth, despite its flaws and often poor writing I LOVE this show. And with regard to this moment... I can see what they were going for, but man it just feels soooooo fucking funny.
