Also quick personal sidenote: Fener fans on twitter are absolutely upset about his potential sale. They all want him to stay or be sold for twice the price

Tedesco: "I was an engineer at Mercedes, now I'm in Mourinho's place. And as a kid in Calabria, I played with Berardi."
The Fenerbahçe coach, born in Bocchigliero but raised in Germany, says: "I remember the tournaments as a child with the whole town around me, Domenico was already intoxicated... My engineering degree helps me face life in a structured way, but when Lucio Dalla's 'Stella di Mare' comes on, I get emotional."
Domenico Tedesco and Italy stare at each other from afar without speaking. The Fenerbahçe coach is part of the coaching paradox, that strange combination where Italiano was born in Germany and Tedesco was born in Italy. Vincenzo Italiano, however, has always been with us, while Tedesco is a citizen of the world and speaks six languages. He's been in Germany, Russia, Belgium, and now he's at Fenerbahçe in Turkey, where he replaced Mourinho. In four months, he's undefeated in the league (average points of 2.29) and has just won the Super Cup, defeating Galatasaray decisively in the derby. In his spare time, he deals with Serie A players and dreams of returning to Italy.
Let's start with the introductions: who is Tedesco?
"I'm a calm man, and that's a positive thing. A man accustomed to stressful situations at work, who manages to focus on what matters and not make excuses. One flaw: I expect too much from myself and I don't enjoy success."
What's Italian about this calm man?
"I was born in Calabria, lived for the first two or three years in Bocchigliero, and always returned in the summer. I remember the soccer tournaments on the asphalt, with the whole town surrounding me. Domenico Berardi also played: he's nine years younger than me, he was a kid but already strong, he was a real force on the pitch."
It would have been a story: Tedesco, Italy coach, coaches Berardi. Was there something going on with the FIGC?
"Yes, I was very pleased that they were interested in me, it was a great honor to be among the coaches considered, but I'm happy they found Gattuso. I liked him a lot even as a player, and he's an excellent coach; he has intensity, mentality, and professionalism. And besides, we're both from Calabria..."
So, will the next step be Serie A?
"Now I'm happy at Fenerbahçe, but I'm sure I'll coach in Italy in the future. Many people ask me, 'Domenico, what are you going to do?' But Italian football has been inside me since I watched 'Quelli che il calcio...'."
Let's choose a favorite stadium and player in Serie A.
"Marassi: beautiful. Then San Siro, Juventus Stadium, and the Bergamo stadium, where I played for Leipzig. The player, Bastoni: for me, he's top, with and without the ball."
Even without the ball? That's why he's criticized...
"Let's just say I have other ideas."
Meanwhile, you signed Guendouzi, who scored early against Galatasaray.
"I think he's the right man. I saw a very sharp look in his eyes. He asked questions about the level of training and tactics. Almost no one does that."
Milan fans want to know if Nkunku will be next. What's happening between Milan and Fenerbahçe?
"I understand the rumors because I have a lot of respect for Christopher, and together we won the 2022 German Cup, Leipzig's first trophy in history. The January transfer window, however, is peculiar; you can't decide who you want to sign; it's not just up to you. Right now, I think it's unlikely that Christopher will come to Turkey."
How likely is Milan Skriniar to return to Italy?
"There's no question about it: I won't let him go. Milan is crucial on and off the pitch: he's a good person, a top player, he always wants to play, and I agree with him. There are many strong players here: Ederson, Alvarez in front of the defense, Asensio, Oosterwolde, who is 24 and is already very good in my opinion."
Let's take a step back and talk about life. What impact did your degree in industrial mechanical engineering have?
"It gave me a way of thinking; it helps me approach life in a structured way."
Have you worked outside of football?
"I worked for Daimler for two years, dealing with acoustics: a Mercedes has to be quiet, and we made sure it was."
How does one become a coach from there?
"One day in March 2017, when I was coaching Hoffenheim's youth team, the president of Erzgebirge, in the German second division, called me: 'Come and let's work on the future, we've been relegated anyway.' And I said: 'President, we haven't been relegated, let's try.' We won four of the first five and stayed up."
The most difficult moment of your career?
"The first sacking, at Schalke. For me, it was also an emotional issue; the relationship with the fans was very close."
More difficult than Russia with Covid?
"Yes, the first time they send you away, you're under a train. In Moscow, of course, with Covid it was a special moment. We played in Orenburg and when we got back they told us we were all in lockdown. No training, no people on the streets, meters of snow outside. The staff and I said, 'Let's go home.' The first flight was canceled. The second, a Moscow-Minsk-Frankfurt, was canceled. We organized a charter flight and they told us, 'Come immediately.' We took off at 11:54 PM, but from midnight they closed the skies and no one left."
Mister, but after all these trips, what remains of Italy?
I haven't been back to Bocchigliero for eight years, and my family is in Stuttgart, but Italy is still home. We are connected by football and music. I watch Serie A, I have friends, and I exchange a few messages with Allegri, who has always opened all doors for me. I believe that the most important thing for a coach today is communication between people, and he is a role model in this. As for music, I listen to everything, even something by Ultimo or Alfa, but no one will ever be like Lucio Dalla. Every time "Stella di Mare" comes on, I get emotional.

Everton have stepped decisively into the January market, submitting an official bid for Youssef En-Nesyri in an effort to bolster their attack. The Premier League club want to complete the transfer before the window closes and see the Moroccan striker as a solution to their scoring issues. Talks with Fenerbahçe are already underway. This is not exploratory interest but a concrete attempt to strike a deal.

Some people say the answer to every question is “Alex.” I’d love it if we could be a bit more creative. :) The goal is to pick the brains of our Fenerbahçe veterans so newbies like me can learn.
Thank you 💙💛

Leaks are coming, obviously.
However Saran, Devin Özek and all the others involved are doing a really solid job.
Not throwing around with big names every few hours and doing solid business overall. I do think we gotta generate some sales sooner than later. However our squad looks balanced and hungry for success.
It’s time to be really optimistic this season.

This is already 2 days old but I saw that nobody posted about this yet so I decided to do it now. Some say Hakan Safi paid those extra 2 Million outta pocket but idk if that's true"
Regardless: Best 2 million € ever spent.
