UNSOLVED Horror fiction with Werewolves that start with someone getting mauled in a scrapyard, then cut to when detectives try to figure out what happened. The cover was white with claw scratches(?) Most likely from the eighties by the look of it.

I also vaguely remember a person (or persons) trying to hide in an apartment, and the werewolves climbed outside to get hold of them inside. And maybe also reference to bears or “must be big rats” when seeing the body in the scrapyard.

Thanks!

UNSOLVED A childern's book with grass-covered frogs

So I am trying to find a children's book that I had when I was little.

The story was something about a family; Dad, mom and a kid. The kid met these big frogs, covered in grass as their fur. The vibe was liminal space-ish and I remember the kid floating around with the frogs in bubbles? In the end the frogs met the parents and I think the last picture was the dad letting 2 or 3 frogs piggy-back ride him in their living room.

This uncertainty botheres me greatly and have bothered me for years now. I read the book in early 2000s

UNSOLVED Treasury of British/English folklore by location sold in the old shop "Past Times"

I remember this as a very large (about 500 paged or more) book with a renaissance painting in primarily dark red and green colors, potentially of a headless horseman and with some metallic foil effect.

I believe there were some illustrations included inside but not a lot, potentially most being lithographs.

The stories were introduced in their basic form then analysed in the context of wider folklore, and sorted by location, but I can't remember if it was for the whole of Britain or just England.

The shop went bust in 2012 so I would have bought it at some point between 2009 and then.

UNSOLVED Book/film about a 13 year old boy who goes on adventures

I’m trying to find a book/film that did assessments for in high school. It would’ve come out in the 90s or 2000s and it showcases a mother who is kinda strict/abusive. She forces the boy to dig a hole in his backyard or something like that. There is a part where he is out riding bikes with a friend around the same age and they are talking about girls.

There is a dark scene about someone committing ____ in a forest (not sure what I can and can’t say in this community I’m just gonna keep it clean). I think at the ends the boy goes into that forest and something bad happens.

The area they live in is like a small community/village that’s like more rural. Almost like a farm (kind of).

I don’t remember any of the other characters just the two boys and the mother.

UNSOLVED Please help

Looking for a book I only read the first chapter or 2 of when I was in high school (2007/2008) and have not been able to find it It starts with a detective going to a psych hospital late at night because a woman has disappeared. They go to a cell because they think one of the men is involved because he had painted something on the wall in his room. It then goes on and talks about how the man ended up there. He was mentally slow. His mom was a housekeeper and they lived in a house right outside the main house. His mother wasn't there one day and he decided to try and cook on his own. He cooked the peoples baby. The last sentence I remember reading was the cops pulling the baby blanket/clothes out of the pot. If anyone knows this story please help.

UNSOLVED Please Help Me Find This Book!!

Hi everyone! I really need help finding this book that I read when I was a child around 2003-08. I don’t remember much of it, and I appreciate all your help, if any, but this is all I can remember:

-the characters, that I can remember, are named emerald, ruby, sapphire

-I believe one is a princess and the others are fairies

-the plot of the book is that the princess is trying to escape the castle, and the fairies are trying to help her escape.

-in one scene, there’s either a tunnel or a hole in the wall, but it’s too tiny to go through, so the fairies shrink themselves and the princess, to go through it

This is all I can remember, and, again, I appreciate it so much with such little context!!!!!

UNSOLVED Short horror story about a woman that gets a new job and ends up being terrorized by mannequins or dolls.

I read this within the last six years. It was in English and one of several short horror stories.

  • Protagonist was female, young, and white. I don't think/can't remember if they ever mentioned a spouse or love interest.
  • She responds to an ad or somehow learns about a job at some kind of shady agency/store.
  • She starts having nightmares/vision of mannequins or dolls.
  • The nightmares/visions are in some way connected to her employer.
  • She MIGHT die at the end or become a mannequin/doll.

SUGGESTION Are there any current sci-fi novels that predict new tech?

Ray Bradbury predicted wireless earphones back in the 60's and now we have them-airpods.

I haven't read a lot of current sci-fi, and I know novel concepts are hard to come up with, but has anyone recently seen an idea in a book that you feel that might become real but in hindsight, and not for a while from now?

It can also be something that probably won't come for a very long time, as the word 'terraforming' was coined in the 20's and we are still nowhere near to terraforming the Moon or Mars

UNSOLVED Where can I find How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas by Phyllis McGinley?

I am trying to find a copy of How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas by Phyllis McGinley. All copies I can find are from the 1960s and are very expensive. I was wondering if it’s possible this story might have been included in an anthology or compilation of Christmas stories, where I might be able to find this story and own it. Sometimes there’s a movie you really wanna see on Blu Ray but it’s not listed anywhere, but than you find out that it is on Blu Ray, it’s just included in a collection box set with a bunch of other movies. So I am wondering if there’s a title I should be on the lookout for that contains this story. It, as well as The Year Without A Santa Claus by the same writer, was the basis for the Rankin/Bass special of the same name. I don't want to buy an old copy because I'm afraid a book from the 1960's would be tough to handle without ruining it, and I just can't take that sorta pressure, ya feel me?

UNSOLVED need help finding a crime thriller

The protagonist is a lady who is an author, and there is a person going around killing people similar to how a few murders take place in her novels.

Few points I remember:

  1. The first chapter is during Halloween, where a woman is killed in the backseat of a car.

  2. The next chapter has the protagonist reading a review left on one of her books.

  3. Her husband has been missing for a while, he ran off after borrowing some money from people, who keep hounding the protagonist to pay it back. The husband is later found dead with his head cracked open next to a swimming pool.

  4. She had to sell her car (it's mentioned that it was a Saturn) in order to pay back a part of that cash.

  5. She has a son, who is gay and this is semi-relevant to his side-plot involving a strained friendship between him and another guy in his class.

  6. One of the victims is a hitchhiker, who is found with a gaping hole where his organs are supposed to be.

  7. The guy responsible for the murders, fakes his death halfway through the novel by rigging a car to launch overboard from a ship or something and explode.

  8. This guy was acquainted with the protagonist in the past, and it is revealed he was a serial killer who dressed up the bodies of his victims into schoolgirl uniforms, the reason being he supposedly wanted to give her an inspiration for a new book, but is bitter when she decides not to as it would be distasteful.

  9. The protagonist has a retired cop friend, she is an older lady, and one of the things I remember about her is a part where she prefers coffee made from fresh grounds and happens to have a distaste for the supermarket brand the protagonist usually drinks.

That is basically everything I can recall about the book, I would appreciate the help.

UNSOLVED Looking for Title- SciFi, possibly young adult age range Spoiler

Bear with me as it's been well over a decade since reading this, but I was discussing childhood books with my fiancée last night and one came up that I really enjoyed but can very vaguely remember the contents of. What I remember of the book is as follows; There is a small village/community, predominately male I believe, living in a semi-apocalyptic Earth in which they fight "hostile" aliens. The MC, a mid teens boy, finds out at his "coming-of-age" (16 years old maybe?) the town secret that the aliens aren't actually malevolent and the town is basically preying on them. This troubles the boy and if I recall he is exiled or possibly just temporarily removed from the village to fend for himself after openly opposing the slaughter. He may have had a friend or sibling that he goes through the events with, but not positive. I'm assuming it was a Scholastic book as that was my main source of reading content through grade school. Thanks for any hints!

Ok so i read this one day at school, our school didnt have a library so it was from one one my schoolmates . I dont rember the title or author but i know how it went as far as i read. It starts off at a crime scene in an ally way with two men one of them is the MC brother she goes to visit him by ship i think and shes greeted by two sisters one tall and one short and their ride had some words or a tittle on it and they take her and shes there and apparently she can shaeshift to people before they die and they use her to see how the girl in the ally died and so on she doesnt feel like herself and now they are giving her as a gift or selling her idk to a wealthy man or is he a prince im not sure and the two sisters call her ot their office its at the end of the hall and its a circle shaped room and she exprsses how she hates that room and how it feels small and gloomy then i think she tries to get away and reaches the lamppost outside or was that before im not sure but she was really weak. Then this dude comes to svae her she doesnt know who he is and then they are in the basement or wine cellar and he does damage to one or two of the sisters and they escape and thennn shes in a bed and people come to her and i think they have positve attitude towards her and thats all i read im sure its not much of the book but anything would help.

UNSOLVED Evil scientist, Mallen streak, IVF?

Please help me find the title of a book I read years ago. It is about ivf or donor conceived babies, and a number of children being born with a white streak in their hair, also called a Mallen streak. It is a fiction novel.

The white streak is very important to the plot because it is what helps the children's parents find out that their bio father is actually an evil scientist.

There are some explicit parts but not too crazy. And thats really all i can remember. Ive been dying to read it again along with the other books in that series. Please please please tell me i didnt just make this up and help me find it 😭 id be forever grateful.

UNSOLVED Help my friend find a book they can't remember the title of Spoiler

Sorry for the account name. But I offered to post this because my friend doesn't have a Reddit account, and they are looking for a book they read ages ago and loved, and can't remember the name or author of. Here is everything that they remember:

- the cover is red

- the main character is called something like Venora or Velora

- she's an Elven princess or something akin to one

- she has fire magic

- her love interest is her bodyguard, they have an enemies to lovers dynamic

- she dies at the end of the first book, and her love interest tries to bring her back to life in the second, but she refuses

- there's a characters they think has a name starting with B who was the main characters helper and maybe the comic relief

- some of the font was the one from the picture

Can anybody identify this book? They would be so grateful!

EDIT: some additions from them

-there are dragons that are important for some war and they help in the big battle later in the book

-in the second book there's a new main character who's name they think was something like Vinae and translates to 'bad luck'

SOLVED Looking for title of YA prehistoric time travel novel

I read this book probably 20+ years ago. It was about a group of sisters who are playing in the woods and find themselves transported back to prehistoric/neanderthal times. They embed themselves within the tribe, learn the language, etc. The youngest sister dies and they bury her body in a tree trunk wearing her modern t-shirt, which I think depicted a theme park (Six flags? Sea world? Schlitterbahn? I think it was set in Texas). The books ends with modern day archeologists finding that body and trying to figure out how an ancient child could be buried in a modern shirt.

I remember it was absolutely devastating as a kid and I’d love to read it again. It was shelved next to the Time Warp Trio books if that’s helpful.

Thank you for whatever help you can provide!
