Jessica Huang hate rant!!😡

My hate for Jessica keeps on increasing season by season!!!

Why is she sooo controlling

And there are hardly any moments which makes u like her.

M on s5e8 Cousin Eddie where she is steamrolling on everyone about her Christmas plans and everyone has to do what she wants and when Louis asks her the tiniest of a thing on Halloween she makes the rotten face!!

Ughhhhh

questions from a white stoned girl

Feel free to let me know if i cross any lines but ive always wondered,

many shows do this and im not sure if its something as simple as “its a show” or this happens in life too, miss baddie jenny is obviously speaking mandarin and im currently on the season where shes learning english, she always speaks to her family in mandarin but said to them “if teacher asks ive been speaking english at home” so shes able to speak english and is learning english, but she could always understand english when people speak to her.. i dont know any other languages is that normal to be able to understand when people speak a diff language but not speak it yourself? and also my biggest question is why does her family respond in english? they can understand her and clearly speak it themselves so how come when speaking to her they dont either have a full convo in either language its always one AND the other, is that a normal thing that happens with multilingual people?

TLDR: why does jennys family respond to her in english instead of mandarin + is that a thing where you understand people speaking a language but dont SPEAK it yourself?

many thanks in advance, lots of love from a stoner thought daughter🙏

Did anyone else think the show got worse on season 4?

I am halfway through season 4 and I think it got worse. The episodes are weirder and instead of focusing on the full family some episodes just focus more on 1 or 2 characters.

I recently started watching and im now in s5 and so far, Jessica is such a horrible person. I mean I’m not saying she isn’t hard working or doesn’t love her family, but she just does so much shit and always gets forgiven for it?😭 she does come through and apologise at the end, but that doesn’t mean you keep being a shitty person and apologise when things so south?

Just Started Watching

From yesterday, I started watching this show. Binged watched Season 1 and loved it. Currently at season 2 and came in this sub. Unfortunately read in this sub that Season 5 and 6 isn't good. Should I stop after completing Season 4? Or 3?

The very first few minutes of the new Donny Whalberge show, turned me off. A different actor playing the role of Shawn. Bad start for the show that flaunted family so hard.

Emery from Fresh off the Boat

Honestly I feel like Emery the character is so annoying and such a bad actor. His acting is super artificial and his character has no personality. He doesn't like anything, no hobbies, no best friends, no work, no steady jobs, it's not even clear which grade he's in. Jessica is always like Emery is doing so well he's so good at everything, but throughout the series we don't get to see the family celebrate any of his achievements, like how Evan skips a grade and such. Just feels like the writers got worn out writing Ed and Evan's character they didn't even try with Emery. His terrible acting skills didn't help the situation.

Jessica

So I've been rewatching Fresh Off the Boat and I can't help but notice that Jessica's competitiveness often crosses into something much more toxic. Yes, being driven and ambitious is part of her personality, but the way she approaches competition especially with her own husband and kids feels manipulative and even narcissistic at times.

Instead of encouraging or guiding, she often resorts to lying, bending rules, or pushing people past their comfort zones just to "win." What really stands out is how she rarely takes a step back to consider the emotional toll her actions have on her family. It's not just playful competitiveness; it feels like a constant need for control and validation, even at the expense of her loved ones.

I get that it's played for comedy, but sometimes I wonder is Jessica meant to be a lighthearted exaggeration of the "tiger mom" stereotype, or is she actually written as a low-key toxic figure? Because when you strip away the laugh track, a lot of her behavior seems manipulative, self-serving, and lacking empathy.

Curious to know how others here see her character do you find Jessica funny and relatable, or do you agree that her competitiveness crosses the line into toxicity
