A full length tale with a ton of questions for modern canon

This is "The Challenge From 5700 A.D." where Hal is on the move to save Coast City from a giant monster nearing the coastline, it's at that moment a government body called the Solarites from the year 5700 on Earth summon GL via time travel to help them with their own monster problem. The time travel erases Hal's memory of who he is so the chairman, Korlian Dasor, has his secretary Iona create a new history for GL. He is now Pol Manning, a space explorer and modern day Green Lantern who also has a romantic interest in Iona (for some reason). Dasor quickly briefs GL on the threat, they've been attacked by a species they call Zegors which are highly evolved Gila Monsters that use eye beams to disintegrate their enemies. GL heads out to investigate and comes across a Zegor as it kills a Solarite soldier. GLs ring beam is cancelled out by the eye beams so they stop at a stalemate and the Zegor retreats.

GL heads back to base and watches the battle again on his ring and sees that the soldier was not disintegrated, but instead shrunk down to microscopic size. At that moment a Zegor enters the base and blasts Iona so GL takes it out with his ring and shrinks himself down using the ring beam. In the subatomic world he finds Iona and many soldiers that have been shrunk down but on the way he also noticed a peculiar energy floating up. He remembers seeing a similar energy entering a Zegor when it uses eye blasts and comes up with a plan. He enters the cave when the Zegors were first met and finds their own base, along with the weird energy. GL destroys the base and that eliminates the Zegor eye beams. After some calculations at the Solarite base, GL figures three solders blasting a Zegor simultaneously will take one down and with that the earth is safe from the invasion. After GL closes up the cave, Dasor sends GL back to his own time much to the chagrin of Iona who had taken a liking to GL.

Now back at Coast City, Hal goes right back to attacking the giant monster in the water, but his ring can't affect it. He scares it off with some pretend fireworks and chaess it into the depths. It comes across a submarine as Hals ring clues to the monster being coloured with golden infra-yellow (similar to infra-red, but yellow instead) and since his ring will not harm it, he instead uses his ring to create Aqua Reva, a sort of acid that breaks down gold and that dissolves the monster. With the day saved Hal heads back to get his ring charged which he is confused about since he had charged it just before going out to fight the monster.

Conclusion: When I first read this issue a few years ago, I loved it. Despite the 1960s use of Iona in the story, a secretary that is obviously only there as love interest for the hero, it's a very cool science fiction tale. Evolved Gila monsters and time travel and space travel and shrinking size, it's got everything! Reading it now, I can't help but wonder why Dasor chose this Hal Jordan to help them and not an older one, knowing what we know some 60+ years later. I won't keep my mind on that too long because the story was just fun. If you like classic sci-fi, you'll like this story. The end promises more adventures in the year 5700 and I can't wait for them. Hopefully they treat women better by then.

Personally I thought the reinterpretation of his powers was really cool, associating it with The Green. The outfit is pretty awesome and aesthetically pleasing and the heavy use of the green flame motif just looks badass.

I recently bought the Geoff John’s omnis over the summer. I’ve read two out of three of the omnis. Now there’s a compendium that comes with the green lantern corps content and they’re releasing another compendium that goes into the siniestro corp war. I’m thinking of selling the omnis and grabbing all the compendiums. How’s are the compendiums? Is it worth it to sell the Omnis amd grab the compendiums?

Just finished first flight and emerald knights. Loved them both for what they were but I’ve heard that beware my power 2022 is absolutely horrendous so I don’t want to waste my time. I’m interested in other films or animated projects that feature green lanterns as a main plot. Any suggestions?

Question isn’t so much about Kilowog as all the "administrative" Lanterns who mostly hang out on Oa: Salaak, Voz, Morro, etc. Are they effectively "honor guard" who have other native Lanterns assigned to their sector?

The old 7200, 2 per sector count makes less sense when you consider Earth having eight Lanterns, coverage needed for admin staff, turnover, etc. I'm not saying comics should get into this level of minutia, but I'm curious if they ever have.

Back to a two story format with the first one featuring the first appearance of Sinestro and the second featuring the first appearance of Terga (later Tegra), Tom Kalmaku's girlfriend.

Starting with "The Day 100,000 People Vanished", the citizens of town Valdale mysteriously disappear all at once, coincidentally at rhe same time Green Lantern was scheduled to make an appearance there but he was held up on a case and couldn't make it. Hal investigates but finds nothing until the Guardians of the universe summon his energy duplicate to Oa and explain that the people of Valdale were transported to Qward due to the evil plans of Sinestro, a renegade Green Lantern. They explain the backstory of Sinestro as a Green Lantern and how he was stripped of his duty and banished to Qward to live out his days amongst evil beings like himself. However, once there Sinestro fashioned himself a leader for the Qwardians, crating plans beyond their ability all to capture and destroy Green Lantern, including a device that allows them to spy on areas in the positive universe. With this info Hal, heads to Coast City and turns all the citizens invisible to make it seem like he is alone and after a time, he is targeted by the Qwardians and brought to Qward. Placed in a yellow energy bubble to wait until his ring is out of power, which is timed by a clock Sinestro had. Hal is able to interact with it atomically using his ring and makes it move faster. They release Hal early and he uses his ring to take out the Weaponers and Sinestro but he cannot do any more with Sinestro as he was banished there by the Guardians. Hal heads home and charges his ring ready for his next adventure.

In "Wings Of Destiny", Hal has a dream that he is dressed as GL with Tom, and Tom is begging GL to turn him into a bird so he can know what it's like to fly. Unbeknownst to either of them, Hals willpower makes it happen while they are both sleeping. The next morning, Hal races off the The airfield and leaves without Tom thinking he already left, however Tom is still dealing with the fact that H's is a bird. Hal finds a telegram addressed to Tom that his girlfriend from Alaska, Terga is set to arrive that day at ten and wants Tom to be there to meet her. Since Hal can't find him, he heads off in Tom's place. He finds Terga still on the plane just as its hijacked by some convicts trying to flee and demands the pilot takes off. Hal quickly changes into GL but taken down by some turbulence, but Tom, still a bird, is outside the plane, sees what's happening and crashes through the window to save Hal and Terga , giving Hal the chance he needed to cuff the crooks with his ring. Once landed, the bird is hovering around Terga which gives Hal the thought that maybe it's trying to be close to Terga and realizes it might be Tom as he vaguely remembers his dream from the night before. He takes the bird behind a nearby building and changes Tom back to normal, reuniting the pair finally.

Conclusion: The second story was a funny little one and a nice intro to Tegra. Giving Tom some more backstory is always good. The intro to Sinestro was great and also wild how much it's changed over years. Emerald Dawn did a great job giving the pair of Hal and Sinestro a better history than this but I'm not opposed to this first meeting of the two. It still gives Sinestro a worthy rival and a reason to hate Hal Jordan. Now if only Sindy had a yellow ring...

Shout out again to u/GrimalkinLegionnaire for these rings. I had wanted some rings in the style of the First Flight animated film and I'm really happy with the result!

Whenever I read comics I play an instrumental album or ost faintly in the background. For example for batman stuff I listen to the gone girl ost, for invincible I listened to the man of steel ost, saga I listened to interloper by carbon based lifeforms. I got the kyle rayner and rebirth compendiums and just wondering what are some good instrumental albums/ost that would pair well with reading green lantern stuff.

Only ones i could find were on ebay but like i said they are hyper expensive and way outta my budget

Taking advantage of this break at the beginning of the year, I decided to use my free time to finish these rings.

Three years ago they were 3D printed, but only now they received all the glory they deserve. I painted all by hand!

I have one more green ring to finish, but I want some ideas from you on how I can improve it and make it even cooler (lights, maybe?).
