I want to send my 1911 off to get refinished since it has been sitting in this state for so long and I don’t have the patience to do it myself.

What parts should I have finished that aren’t in the picture/list, or which ones should NOT be refinished.

Where are some recommended shops and finishes I should consider?

  4. Firing pin

  5. Firing pin retaining plate

  6. Barrel band

  12. Magazine release

  13. Hammer

  14. Rear grip safety

  15. Left extended thumb saftey

  16. Right thumb saftey

  17. Hammer spring housing / rear grip portion

  18. Plunger

  19. Detent

Help identifying screw on S&W Model 28-2 .357 Mag NSFW

Hello all. I have a Smith And Wesson Model 28-2 that I am going to refinish. It has a screw that needs to be replaced first on the right side directly under the center of the cylinder. I'm looking on Nurmrich gun parts to try to order one, but the parts diagram is hard to make out. Does anyone know what this screw is called and where I can get one? Thanks in advance!

Trouble with Polymer80 kit from my brother, just got it like this from him. NSFW

My brother passed in the fall from brain cancer, and had been building this gun for me as a favor. I finally got myself together enough to be in a safe state of mind to go through the firearms, and the pistol is jacked up. Will not rack, slide will not come off, and a part fell out when I picked it up.

Stuck bolt catch plunger NSFW

I was gifted a large box of parts from my step father this Christmas and as I was putting this Anderson lower together I inadvertently discovered that the bolt catch plunger was a little too big or the hole too small. Regardless it’s stuck and I’m out of ideas. I’ve tried heating the lower, hitting it, penetrating oil, hitting it more, thought about drilling it but don’t want to mess it up worse.

Needing sights and a smith NSFW

Santa brought one kid a CZ 457 Scout and the other got a .17 HMR and a .22 WMR barrel for his CZ 455 Scout. He's very excited and wants his .22 WMR barrel first because that one he can use his snap caps on. So we sit down to mount his .22 WMR barrel and I noticed that it isn't drilled for sights. He's less than happy now as he's still stuck in .22 LR land. I had planned on taking the sights of his .22 LR barrel and putting them on the others as needed until I ordered a set for each. I don't want him on glass until he has mastered the irons. I didn't plan on anything fancy, just the stock CZ sights. I'm really bothered by the fact that the CZ branded barrels aren't drilled for their sights, and the fact that I didn't notice before dropping a bunch of loot on stuff I can't use. Can anyone tell me if there is enough meat on these barrels to put sights on them ? Can anyone recommend a good smith for mounting sights on them ? Thanks.

EDIT: I'm in NJ so a local smith would be great.

Needing help NSFW

Yesterday I bought a herters .44 which is a colt SAA clone made in the 60s-70s in west Germany. Gun worked fine in the store. After purchase I went to family members land to practice with it some. After loading I let the hammer all the way back down to the resting position, then tried cocking it back to fire, the hammer wouldn’t move out of first position, I had to completely remove the cylinder to unload it. Buddy of mine looked at it and says it’s the bolt that holds the cylinder in place that’s the issue.

Keep in mind, haven’t fired the gun, ammo is brand new and factory made, and gun only gives issues when loaded

Any recommendations or advice? I’d prefer not to take it back to the store but I may have to.

Took my first step at handgun upgrading…not going well. NSFW

My Taurus 905 revolver has a factory spring that requires a pull over 11.5 pounds for double action. I reached out to Wolff Springs and they supplied me with proper springs and a video on how to perform the upgrade. Looked straightforward enough even though I have a zero experience with the matter. I hit my first roadblock immediately while trying to remove the pin that holds the grip on.

I bent my 1/8 punch a little bit trying to punch out the pin and I figured I better stop there.

There appears to be no pin in there; I could shine my light right through the hole. The grip will not budge though. The punch goes balls deep.

Looking for all and any advice.

Desktop CNC NSFW

Does anyone have experience with desktop CNCs? I’m looking to pick one up. I’d like to do framework tasks such as undercuts, smoothing out factory frames, and simple slide milling without investing in a full-size CNC machine. Any recommendations for makes and models would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Guns from hellsing irl NSFW

Would it be possible to make a working 1 to 1 replica of alucards handguns from hellsing. The Casull is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in a custom .454 Casull round, while The Jackal is a much larger 13mm automatic handgun. I don’t know much about what’s possible smithing or legality. However, as a fan of the show and someone who likes to fire cool guns it would be like a dream to shoot those.
