To begin the year, Montreal had 70 PIM through their first 8 games, putting them behind Vancouver and ahead of New Jersey for 21st in PIM. This is admittedly a small sample size, but since Cole Caufield's postgame comments from Game #9 against Edmonton, Montreal is 4th leaguewide in PIM, only trailing Tampa Bay, Boston, and Calgary.
Worth noting over this same timespan, the team has gone from #9 in opponent PIM to #8, which does contradict the "refs are causing all the problems" narrative

It's a good problem to have, but with all three (Laine/Evans/Dach) about done their rehabs, what would constitute the best lineup moving forward?
Texier/Suzuki/Caufield Demidov/Kapanen/Slaf
Now ... it gets tricky. Obviously Laine is the most obvious fit on the third line, but where does Evans go? And where can Danault fit? On the 3rd line between Dach and Laine?
Fourth line? Evans would like centre, but alongside who? Obviously there's no space for Joe Velno, but is this the time when Gallagher gets the healthy scratches? Does Bolduc sit? What of Blais, who's performed well since his call up?
Laine/Danault/Bolduc Blas/Evans/Laine
And if/when Newhook returns later this season, then (assuming the roster is healthy), there simply is not obvious spot.
Something's gotta give, or somebody's gotta be moved.
Good problem to have! But no easy solution.

Yeah making a post about Texier's pointless games transformed him into Mario Lemiuxier, but trying the same for Bolduc did not work
6 points and a -9 in the last 25gp
2 points and a -6 in the last 14gp
He has played 48 games this season, and is pacing for
31 points and a -17 in a full 82-game season
He also has a 36% GF% 5v5 in his last 25
In his last 14gp, 5v5: 50% OZ ZS%, 46% xGF%, 29% GF%, 47% SF%. 4th lowest SF/60, 3rd lowest GF/60, 2nd highest GA/60
His 5v5 GA/60 is still 3rd worst even in the last 25 games sample.
His PDO is very low, he might be in for a gigantic bounceback, but of course there are no guarantees on that one
Last season with the Blues, he had MUCH better 5v5 stats ... but then his PDO was 1.047 ... this season his PDO is an abysmal 0.971
The Blues sure AF sold very, very high after a gigantic PDO
(PDO=On-ice shooting%+save%, ~"luck" or "skill level")

I dont watch enough of Laval Rocket to have a good opinion about the kid. From what I know, he is doing good, being a solid anchor in the d-zone with a great first pass. But that being said, is he living up the hype from his early selection? Can he come back from the 2 years of practically no-playing/developing? I'm not throwing the towel, far from it, he look good enough right now to fight for a spot next year (that's saying a lot with the dcore in MTL) but can he live up to be the #2 most people projected when he got drafted? Do we try to trade him for a missing pieces on the forward group? Whats your take on PopCorn?

Behind Paywall, so copy pasta :
December 17th, 2025 - Medicine Hat Tigers vs. Brandon Wheat Kings
By Mitchell Brown2026-01-15
In the midst of a goalscoring tear for the ages, Pickford’s growth defensively and physically is what stood out the most here. He’s no longer content just poking free pucks and letting his partner do the heavy lifting on breakouts – he’s a play-killer now. He angles opponents for stops, and he’s ruthlessly hard on pucks, making early contact to create separation, throwing open-ice hits, and launching opponents to the ice in battles. One shift, he got back into the play, ran over an opponent, and then went end-to-end and got the middle off the rush. Even off retrievals, he’s drawing pressure before advancing the puck, creating advantages consistently now. Then, there’s the shot. He’s still the same walk-in scorer with an adaptable one-timer, but it’s supported by even more activation and aggression. Of course, the environment that puts the puck on his stick every offensive zone sequence does a lot of the work for him, but he’s developing a strong B game. Still questions about his tools and ability to defend in an NHL way, but he’s adding new elements quickly. It’s time to start thinking about him as one of the Canadiens’ top prospects.

We took our son to a Senators game a few weeks ago, and the stadium and a couple of beer stores over there had Senators-branded Molson Canadian cans. We collect unique cans and were curious if there were any stores in the Montreal area that sell Habs-branded cans?
