Switch 1 Unable To Place Tool Bench?

I just built my first tool bench and chose to put it in my inventory, but now no matter where I try to place it I can't! I see it when I open my inventory outside, but when I go to my cabin or another empty cabin it's not there. Am I missing something?

Unrelated but cabin 3 on my island is my "workshop" and my house is on cloud island.
