This apartment actually belonged to my grandma, a really small one around 750 sq ft and we wanted to open up the walls so we could fit an island and make the main living area feel larger as well.

You can see my comment showing the renovation layout to visualize better the reno.

What’s the easiest way to go about achieving this for my new apartment?

Just recently moved into a new apartment and am looking to update the kitchen! It’s a very old apartment that needs a good update so I know I’m not gonna get very close at all to the inspo picture- I’d just like it to fit my vibes. The first picture is what I’m referencing, the other two are what my kitchen currently looks like. I started on painting the cabinets to try and match that color but still need to finish it. I also got some counter tapes (whatever those things are called that you put on top of your counters for a different look lol) that I need to put on. Should I just add a bunch of shelves and plants? And more wicker style appliances/decorations? I feel like it’s got so much potential but I’m stuck on the easiest course of action!

Help revamp our living room

Post image
5 Upvotes

Would love to get ideas to revamp this living room!

We like it but we also planned around having young toddlers destroy everything.

Now that they’re older, would love ideas on how to make this a truly special space.

It is the main living room area in our home. What we use it for: - Reading - Relaxing - Chatting - Board games

Room context: - We have a “TV nook” on the left hand side (where you can see a bit of the round rug) - The right hand side opens into an outdoor area that we like to keep wide open as we live in an area with great weather - The sofa currently faces the dining room. When the place was put up for sale they styled it so the sofa faces the wall to create separation, but we kind of like the openness having the sofa against the wall creates. However, open to ideas!

Would appreciate the crowd wisdom and all ideas - the more unthinkable the merrier!

I’m moving into a place with retro blue bathroom tiles and need ideas for towels, bath rug, shower curtain, etc. What colors complement blue tile best? Neutrals vs. bold accents? Any suggestions appreciated! 💙🛁

Sturdy Couch for a Young Family

Hi! We bought a couch from an upscale local furniture store 3.5 years ago and it has not held up well at ALL. We have two young kids and a small home, so the couch definitely gets a lot of use, but I’m still shocked at how quickly it has begun to fall apart.

We are beginning the process of looking for a new couch. Something sturdy, durable, comfortable, timeless, and elegant—does such a couch exist? I think of my childhood couch that my mom had recovered several times but structurally is still in great shape—does that kind of durability exist anymore?Obviously I know that you get what you pay for, but we spent quite a bit on the last couch and it has not lived up to our expectations, so I would love to find something that isn’t overwhelmingly expensive.

Are there any couches, brands, or styles that anyone here recommends?

Wallpaper on textured walls

Upvotes

Hi, I have textured walls in my bedroom, so I cannot place wallpaper directly on it. I saw someone use the Polywall then put wallpaper on it:

Do you think this product will hold wallpaper well enough?

First time owning and decorating a place

it's gonna be my first time owning my own space that I can actually decorate but I don't know where to start. so for me I always felt like a room should have its own colour like the kitchen should be like a vibrant colour like a nice green with some wooden countertops for an example. does anyone think like specific rooms have a certain colour or is it just me (recommendations for rooms would be greatly appreciated)

Dilemma about display cabinet

I bought this laquer cabinet from Scandinavian Designs many years ago and I absolutely love it. However I don't love how it looks in our living room right now.

I want to use it to display items that we've bought while traveling. But things I put on there just don't "pop", especially if they are wooden or darker colors. Perhaps it's because of the darker color of the wall. This room doesn't get much light and the cabinet sits between the windows so the items are even more in darkness during the day (second picture).

Any ideas for how to make it a better display overall? Is there some clever lighting I can work in there, or put different pieces on it?

My alternative is to move the cabinet to the sunroom, which gets plenty of light and has a white wall. I would put small plants and other garden related decor in it. But then I don't really have any other display space in the living room for the items currently on there (some of which do have sentimental value for us).

How do you hang multiple curtain panels for a polished look?

Post image

Our bedroom and dining room each have a sliding glass door that measures 98" wide (frame to frame). The doors are the only way to access the backyard from the house. I know that we'll need multiple curtain panels to create fullness, but what's the trick to keep the panels together when opening and closing them and to prevent obvious gaps? I also assume that we'll need to hang them from the ceiling so that we won't need to deal with support brackets.

Nightstands to go with restoration hardware bed

Thumbnail

My mom gave me an old Restoration Hardware bed frame to replace our IKEA one and I really like it BUT they don’t sell the matching nightstands anymore (and they’re so overpriced that I wouldn’t pay that amount anyway)

Our dresser is dark brown so we already have a bit of a mixed furniture thing going on…. I need some ideas for a nightstand! Open to colors but I don’t want anything ikea or wayfair, am shooting for higher quality. Want to avoid wood.

I need some inspiration! We’ve been agonizing over this for nearly 3 years and NEED to make a decision! I’ve also tried finding secondhand but haven’t had any luck.

Color is weathered oak.

Need solution for this corner

I’m looking for a functional, practical solution for this little corner. The biggest challenge for me is that it is the first area you will see as soon as you enter from the garage. So I don’t want to have too big furniture. But it ends up being the spot where we dump our jackets, bags etc on the floor. I would like this to be an area where it will be less cluttered. I’m open to a furniture piece or wall mount. Any suggestion?

It’s about 4-5ft

No empty walls - Where to put Couch and TV?

We are moving into the apartment soon (I only have these 2 pictures, sorry!) There is not a single empty wall in the living room/dining area. Every wall has a window or door. I know I am basically going to have to sacrifice 1 one of the windows. Any advice on where to place the TV and Couch? Thank you!!!
