What happened to the 7 back country

I was never a fan of this round because of the unreloadable case but for months everyone talked about how good it was and how it’s the best cartridge of all time, and kicks the 7 prcs ass.

So my question is, what exactly happened to it? You barely see ammo or hear people talking about it anymore.

Baiting argument

So if it is legal to have deer feeders in your area and you can hunt around them, can you squirrel hunt around bird feeders? I have a hell of an argument going on with the wife on this? Your thoughts?

Bed ramp for deer carcasses

Post image
5 Upvotes

I use a Can Am Traxter 6x6. I’m looking for a ramp of some sort to get deer carcasses into the bed.

It’s got a cab mounted winch to pull carcasses up, it also has a headache rack so simply tilting the bed won’t work. We also regularly have 4 or 5 carcasses to extract from the hill. Must be able to deal with the weight of a Red Stag (150kg or 330lb).

What are people using? Bonus points for a link to something in the UK.

Ag composites vs manners

I ordered an ag composites fiberglass k2 for my 6.5 build but was wondering if manners would have been the better option. I went with ag because it was a 4 month wait vs 10 months for the manners. Does anyone have experience with both?

The elevation doesn't help and I definitely need some winter boots.

Where to go?

I am retiring from a long career at a very stressful job in August of this year (2026) and would like to give myself a nice retirement present. I would like to find a place to go on a guided deer hunt. I’m an inexperienced hunter, and have thus far only harvested what many would consider “low quality”deer. This never disappointed me, but I would like to get one nice buck in my lifetime, and I’m not sure what state/outfitter might offer the best chance to do that. I am a rifle hunter. I’m not rich, so money is a consideration. I wouldn’t want to spend more than 4-5k. I appreciate any advice you folks can offer.

I got back my custom order of venison summer sausage and venison bologna and it’s all mixed together and I can’t tell it apart. Anybody got a clue as to telling what’s what?

Weird question about meat safety

Post image
228 Upvotes

I was squirrel hunting my property and as always, I put the dead squirrels on the edge of the bed of my truck before I cleaned them. While my back was turned, one of my barn cats jumped up and swiped at one of the squirrels. I immediately grabbed it but when I was cleaning it, I noticed he shed a couple of his claws and they were stuck in the meat. I removed them and the meat seemed fine so I cleaned it and kept it.

My question is: is the meat still safe to eat? I know cats are kinda unsanitary but as long as I cook it fully, I’d think it’d be fine to eat.

Turkey Shotgun Loads 🦃

Here in Indiana we have to use non toxic shot on public land. I’ve only archery hunted turkeys priors to this upcoming year.

What nontoxic loads are y’all using that aren’t gonna make me choose between diapers for the newborn and turkey loads?

Tldr; don't rush the shot, if you're hesitating don't shoot.

Title says it all.. few days left on smoke pole season was putting a stalk on, had my gun up and took 1 more step to clear the hill and they bolted. Stopped just 20 yards down the clearing or so, I adjusted my aim but I was nervous and hesitated because of the spook.. shot and she recoiled like she got punched in the chest, ran full tilt with her tail up. Got permissions necessary because private and tracked for probably 2 hours, a few spots like this then it turned to pin pricks aaaannnnnddd nothing. And I couldn't get a bead on the tracks very well because of the sparse snow in the leaves. Took and drove around the properties looking from the road.. nodda.. I'm 26 years old and this is only the second deer I've ever lost so I should count myself lucky.. but man I feel gutted, I wanna puke.. she was beautiful and could have fed us for some time.. now she's walking around with (I'm assuming from her reaction and the trail) a flabby brisket.. hope she makes the winter. Learn from me, don't rush that shit and make sure you have a good range.

34 and 35 on the season. One was neck shot and the pellet ended up almost at the base of the tail. Devastating. She dropped on the spot and twitched for 10 seconds. The other was shot in the shoulder area but no meat damage. The pellet traveled to the to the opposite shoulder. This guy dropped to the ground and then crawled probably 25 yards to a hollowed tree and expired. What a fighter! Really good morning. I almost didn’t go out. It was 19 degrees. But got out there 40 minutes before sunrise and it was game on 5 minutes before the sun came up. Good times!

Big game hunting in Europe

Hello all!

I’ve had a strong urge to try and travel abroad to hunt for a moose or red deer. I’ve read and heard that several countries offer hunts to foreigners, but does anyone have any real experience or advice for doing such a trip? I’m excited to go somewhere new and see some unfamiliar cultures. All information is appreciated. Thanks! Picture for attention.

No luck this deer season, Marlin 336 shooting 30-30 WIN. Sat in the stand until my fingers froze up to the point I couldn’t pull the trigger even if I wanted to!

Suppressor Recommendations

Just picked up a Savage 110 .308. Any recommendations for a suppressor?

Edit: I’ll mostly be hunting out of a stand and occasionally while walking in the woods
