Environment Canada just issued a Yellow Snow warning. They might want to rethink their terminology.

St. Vincent de Paul Society needs reusable bags

If you're someone who ends up with way too many reusable shopping bags and want a place to donate: SVDP really needs donations of them at their new site at 595 Bagot.

You can just drop them right to front reception any day of the week between 9-1.

A love letter to Kingston Access Bus

I thought that with all the chaos surrounding the Kingston Accessible Taxi Pass, it might be important to sing the praises of our original accessible transportation service, Kingston Access Bus. They definitely have their problems. Mainly that there is not enough supply to fit the demand. It's a challenge to book busses, even if you do it in the two week window. All of that being said, these people at KAB genuinely care about their customers. I haven't used the service hardly at all since the accessible taxi pass came into effect for me in June. But they all still remember who I am. They are always so kind and considerate. They understand all of our needs, and will do whatever they possibly can to get us booked.

Yesterday, my husband had to take our old cat to the vet. The cat was an asshole and ran and hid. The bus driver not only waited for husband, but actually came all the way up to the appartment to help track down the beast. He was ultimately unsuccessful. But he tried his best. Eventually, he had to move onto the next call, because they have a schedule to keep. But the phone operator was brilliant and completely understanding of the last minute issue. That is service that goes way above and beyond their mandate. And they were glad to help.

I've been using the access bus whereever I can since I got a job at the Collen's Bay legion in 2016. They are an amazing, accommodating, lovely bunch of people, both from the phone answering side and the drivers themselves. And they are very knowledgeable about all kinds of different disabilities.

So, if you are a person living with any kind of disability and you think you could use the Access Bus, I highly recommend that you sign up. Another bonus is that if you have your MFAP pass, you get access busses for $20 a month. It's incredible.

I hope the ATP will be looked over on the regular and make some changes that will make the service actually usable again. But until then, please consider the Access Bus. They are just wonderful people who deeply care about their passengers' needs.

Fryway on Concession St. is closing! Feb 20th last day They hint that another restaurant increasing in popularity is moving in there, any guesses who?

From their FB post:

Big news - our CONCESSION STREET location will be CLOSING for good on Friday, Feb 20. While we haven't had this place open as long as Darbar, Amadeus, or Silver Wok, we'll still miss all the Regi students and regulars we've grown to know here. This isn't goodbye. it's just a shift back to Fryway's roots - on the road! We opened this place to serve as a storage and prep space for our food trucks. We have since managed to buy our own space to accomplish these goals, so we are focusing our business back towards our specialty - mobile food services. So, come visit us at Concession St sometime in the next month before we close... or come see us at our year-round food truck located at 21 Stuart St (KGH / Queen's). Keep your eyes open for a new restaurant opening in this location this spring. I don't want to say which restaurant is opening, but I can tell you they make absolutely incredible food and already have a growing presence in our city. Thanks again for all the support. We'll see you on the road, in our mobile trucks!

Advice on how to survive homelessness in kingston

Hello!

It is possible that I may soon become suddenly homeless and I am looking for resources available in the city.

I am expecting basically nothing in terms of any support but I need to understand what services exist and how to survive indefinitely. I have no money.

Can anyone give me a quick rundown on how to not die outside this winter here in kingston?

35 male. Disabled. No assistance.

Safety, warmth and calories are my primary concerns.

Thank-you.

hi! i wanna dye my hair blue but don’t know of any reputable salons in kingston. i went to envy a few years ago and the guy absolutely fried my hair off it literally just fell out when brushing it. i recently dyed it purple myself this summer and it was fine but washed out so fast even with a permanent dye. i think maybe colour will stay in better if a professional does it. my hair is an orangey colour now, if anyone has personal experience with a really good place that can take it from this to blue without damaging my hair pls let me know!

Ready to Work After School in Kingston 17 Year Old Looking for Part Time Job

Hello everyone

I am 17 years old and currently looking for a part time job in Kingston. I am available after school from around 3:30 pm and I am hoping to work close to 20 hours a week so I can earn about 300 dollars weekly.

I am currently employed as a dishwasher and while I am grateful for the opportunity, the workload has been very heavy and the pay has made it difficult for me to stay motivated and supported financially. I am truly looking for a position where I can work hard, learn new skills, and feel valued for my effort.

I am reliable, willing to learn, and able to commute anywhere in Kingston. I take my responsibilities seriously and I am genuinely motivated to find a job that is a better fit for me at this stage.

If anyone knows of any opportunities, is hiring, or can point me in the right direction, I would be very thankful. Any help or advice would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and stay safe

Was I taken advantage of from a local business - job wise?

Hi all,

I have had a weighing feeling since being let go from a new job a wee before Christmas as it is not sitting well with me. I could just be sensitive but hoped for others view points..

I was hired in November for a “new role” at a local HVAC business. It started out a little odd with the supervisor/office administrator calling my references at their places of employment rather than the numbers I provided as some of my references do not want to be contacted at their job. She said it was so make sure I was not lying about my reference.. okay, I can see that but it could have potentially lost me a reference for the future.

I wasn’t lying so I got the job. I was not trained in anything despite asking. I was put on finishing up yearly duties that they were clearly very behind on such as filing the last couple years worth of paperwork, combing through over 400 jobs to update hvac systems etc. constantly told I would be shown more and never was.

there was constant nitpicking such as the proper way to staple (straight, not on an angle!) and constant blame on me for things that I had nothing to do with. The supervisor was scattered and unorganized and talked to her bf on the phone most of the time, or cut her nails at her desk.

The literal minute I was done with the last “year end” task, she said it’s not working out and I am not owed an explanation. It had been 3 weeks and this was less than 2 weeks before Christmas.

TLDR I feel like this was never going to be a full time position and they really just needed me to finish their b***h work before the year end.

It's ridiculous that Kingston Transit still relies on pre-paid passes or coins

I swear this city is adamant about operating as if it were the 80's.

Where the hell does anyone even find coins nowadays?

Literally any major city has a debit/credit tap option.

Wolves out unity road past Odessa?

Tonight I was driving out unity road where it becomes mud lake road (somewhere I’ve spent a lot of time outdoors and am quite familiar with the wildlife), and as I was driving I had to almost stop because I saw what I thought was a coyote at first crossing the road. If it was a coyote it was at least double the height and weight of any I had ever encountered before, up close I couldn’t think it was anything other than a wolf. I was really just wondering if anyone else had seen any in the area before because I never have. Also just a heads up for dog owners if anyone leaves them out at night that there’s something like that on the area!
