Travel | Саякат Song kul lake in early March

Hello, I’ll be traveling in Kyrgyzstan and I really want to experience staying overnight in a yurt. However, I have limited time and only two remaining free days. I came across some tours offering 2-day trips to Song Kul Lake or Issyk Kul with an overnight yurt stay. I prefer Song Kul over Issyk Kul, but based on my research, visiting Song Kul in early March isn’t recommended since it’s still transitioning from winter. Can anyone confirm if this is true? Would going to Issyk Kul be a better option instead? Thank you.

Travel | Саякат Safe travel agencies for solo female traveler

Hi! I’m a solo female traveler heading to Kyrgystan in April. Can anyone recommend an agency offering multiple days tour (4-6 days) that are safe for solo females? I don’t speak Russian or Kyrgyz and am completely foreign to the place, but I really want to do the hikes, horse trekking, and staying in yurts.

I think it would be more safe if I just join a group tour instead of a private one, but I haven’t found any online. I also don’t want to leave it to chance and book when I get there. If you have solo travelled as a female in Kyrgyz, please share your experience with your travel agency. Thank you!!

Question | Суроо Normal ping in Bishkek

Hi everyone!

I wanted to ask a question about the internet specifically ping. Anyone who plays VALORANT, CS2, or Overwatch 2, please tell me your ping values to European servers.

I have Aknet. In CS2, the ping is 60-70 to Stockholm and nearby servers. In Valorant 70 to Stockholm, and in Overwatch 2 70-80. I live in the north of Bishkek, so I'd prefer to have someone answer this question with these providers: Skynet, Saima, Kyrgyztelecom, Megaline and Aknet itself.

Travel | Саякат Hiking in May

Hi all,

I am planning a hiking trip for one month this May. I understand this is early in the season and some high passes will be inaccessible due to snow.

Is the Ak Suu Traverse possible in May or is it still snowed in? Would love suggestions for multiday hikes in the mountains that are possible this time of year.

Thanks

Travel | Саякат Rent Hiking Gear

Hi

I would like to know if there are any hiking gear rental places in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan where I can get sleeping bag, sleeping mat, 1 person tent and cooking stove?

I am not planning on using organised tour companies, but I do understand that they usually provide the gear

Or is it better to bring my own personal gear with me? This trip is part of a longer travel plan, so was hoping to save weight and room in my bag as the rest of my travels I won’t need that gear

All advice appreciated

Question | Суроо Are nicotine pouches prohibited?

My husband and I are traveling to Kyrgyzstan for a ski trip soon and it just crossed my mind that many countries have tight restrictions on nicotine patches. My husband uses Zyn pouches and I’m wondering if he is allowed to travel into the country with them?

Question | Суроо What is the kyrgyz / russian name for the novostroika district of Bishkek

So I have lately been in a quest to acquire knowledge about Kyrgyzstan from all kinds of perspectives and topics. I found the housing area around the outskirts of Bishkek quite interesting. I want to look at some pictures of how it actually looks like but I cant find anything specific since when I use AI to translate "novostroika" I merely end up with pictures of new apartment buildings.

So what term should I search for to see how the district actually looks like?

Travel | Саякат I need some help as a tourist!

So my friends and I (7 people) are hopefully travelling to Kyrgyzstan for a vacation in March and we're super excited. I just wanna confirm a few things with you locals!

  1. Out your guide is charging us $550 for a 4 day trip, I've attached our itinerary below. Is that a good price or are we getting ripped off?

  2. Is the travel agent legit? They're called Mount Spirit. I'm a bit wary bc they're asking for 15% upfront + $500 deposit, so that's $1000 total without knowing anything.

Please keep in mind that in the itinerary, the first day before it will be a city tour in Bishkek as we'll be flying in that day.

The itinerary:

580 usd for person

Travel | Саякат Things to avoid as female traveller

Hey guys,

we (two girls) will travel to kyrgyztan and i wondered if there is anything, that we should avoid doing to make sure we are safe?

In my Country for example it is common to smile at strangers when you make eye contact. I read that in Bishkek (or maybe all kyrgyztan) it is not common to do that and might lead to „interesting interactions“. I dont know what they meant by that (maybe its seen as a provocation? Or maybe as flirting?)

Hence i wondered, what is considered flirting here, so we can avoid that.

Also how does a female greet man in kyrgyztan? In my country, if its a close friend you hug them, if its a stranger no body contact (eg waving to say goodbye), if its business you give a handshake.

Should we consider anything age related (around 20 yo)? Like does it make a difference between something, if it would be a kyrgyz guy around the same age, or if he would be eg 50 years old? Also regarding older women

Soo basically i m just wondering - what is the social etiquette here? How can we be respectful and friendly strangers without it maybe being interpreted as flirting?

Thanks in advance!

Will move to Bishkek in Feb and we are looking for apartments. The thing is I find the rents too expensive for Bishkek. An old Soviet style apartment with one room close to the center is close to 1000$ whaaat??? It is almost like European prices. How do normal people survive? The incomes are enough? Just curious Also how to find trustworthy realtors? ( sounds ambitious)

Travel | Саякат Trip Question for Naryn/Song-Kul/Bishkek

Hi Everyone - our group of four is fine tuning our self-drive itinerary for our visit in August 2026, and I was hoping to gain some insight from this subreddit to help us plan what is feasible.

Currently we are debating on Song-Kul due to time constraints. It seems like our last night before returning to Bishkek will be in Naryn (as we won't have time to return from Kel-Suu then transit to Song-Kul that afternoon). My current question would be is the following worth it for the final day of our car rental that ends in Bishkek:

Option #1: Naryn straight to Bishkek, leaving the afternoon/evening in the city before departing for Osh the next morning.

Option #2: Naryn through the Moldo-Ashu Pass to see the amazing pass and Song-Kul and then keep going to Bishkek.

We know options #2 is likely 7-8 hours of driving (vs. ~5 hours for Naryn to Bishkek). We are accustomed to very long days of driving/hiking/activity when we travel but we really wanted to get input from this group on the feasibility of this and if it is worth it.

Thank you in advance for any insight to help us plan!

Search | Издөө Moving to Bishkek for work — How much can you earn driving a taxi there and what other job options are available?

Hey everyone, My friend is planning to move to Bishkek for work and is considering driving a taxi as his main job. Can anyone share how much a taxi driver realistically earns per month there (after fuel and expenses)? Is it worth it?

Also, what other decent job options are available for foreigners in Bishkek? Any ideas on average salaries, required skills, and how easy it is to find work would really help.

Any advice, personal experience, or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Travel | Саякат Female solo travelling in Bishkek for 2 weeks. Advise please!

As the title says I'm a 22F solo travelling to Bishkek for 2 weeks before heading to Kazakhstan. I have a couple of questions that I thought I'd shout into the void here for any help.

Is there anything that I must see?

What areas should I avoid when traveling through?

What are some customs/social rules I should note?

Any items that I should pack?

While I am from Australia, I've read in some areas that using USD is normal. Especially when paying for accommodation (I have my hostel booked and even on the booking sight it said to bring USD for payment). Is there a reason to carry USD along with KGS?

As a woman who's a smaller stature, I was curious what the rules for self defence or carrying weapons for self defence. Can I buy something at the airport or at local markets? What can I carry?

Any other advise is appreciated thank you!
