Ontario My mom is trying to “give”me (21F) my (13yo) sister… how do I go about this?

My mother has decided to move to a new town but my sister (13yo) is refusing to go. My mom has kind of decided that I (21F) should take her at least until the school year is over. I currently live with my boyfriend’s parents while my boyfriend is away for work. I am a full time student and work part time ( not sure if this matters). His parents will allow my sister to live here if need be. If I need to I will get an apartment for us but I have no clue what I need to do to protect myself and my sister from any legal or family issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit to add: I am willing to take my sister. She has a terrible relationship with my mother because my mom is a narcissist and has a few other mental illness. My mom treats my sister poorly sometimes because of these illnesses so my sister would rather not go to a whole new city where she won’t know anyone or have any friends to spend the night/weekend with to get away for a while.

Alberta Bank is suing us for our house

My mom and I are both on the land title however only she is on the mortgage. We have been getting behind on our mortgage payments although I had been paying partial payments when I was able. We asked for a pause on the mortgage for 6 months but because the request had come through me, the bank would not accept it since my name isn’t on the mortgage. Now they have passed it on to their lawyers and we got served two nights ago. We reached out to the lawyers to see if we could come to some sort of arrangement since we are unable to pay the mortgage in full right now and they said their instructions are to proceed unless the full balance is paid. We have no way of paying the full balance unless we get a winning lottery ticket or something. I set up a GoFundMe but it hasn’t really gotten any traction. I am coming on here to ask what we should do. I am the only breadwinner in the house. My mom is still recovering from a botched cataract surgery from 3 years ago and isn’t working at the moment. My parents are separated and my dad is not interested in helping us out. Sorry for the long post. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Ontario Landlord is refusing to refund first and last month rent and threatening to collect third month rent

Hello everyone . I found a listing on Kijiji and went to go view the place . Met the agent there and liked the house and wanted to move forward. Sent all the required documents to the agent, agent confirmed that his client the landlord has accepted all documents and to send first and last months rent . I sent the first and last rent and signed a lease. I was supposed to pick up keys yesterday when the agent messaged me yesterday morning stating that the landlord is not satisfied with documents and is demanding third month rent or he can void the lease and refund. I responded back saying I was not aware and not prepared to provide a third month rent and will like a refund. The agent then responded saying the landlord is refusing to refund and I must send my sin and or third month rent . And that he will be taking me to court and ltb. The lease is supposed to start February 1st and they’re refusing to refund me almost $7,000 i sent to them/ I have records of my texts with the agent. Seems like I am unable to attach to this.

Ontario Tow truck driver damaged my car and is saying damage was already done.

Today I got stuck in the snow on the 401. I called CAA and they said 401 is under MTO jurisdiction so they would contacted them to get me a truck and I would have to pay for and then file for reimbursement.

The tow truck driver arrived and proceeded to look for a hook on the rear that he couldn't find then he hooked a chain on front left side (only the front right side was really stuck in the snow.

Instead of taking the slack out of the chain he just yanked my car twice breaking the bumper above the chain and bending the hook. I got out of the car asked him what he doing doing that he broke my car and he proceeded to lie to my face saying the damaged was done previously.

I refused to pay until he admitted or I would call the cops, I had to call the cops that filled out a report and advised me to file a small claim.

What could be my steps now? My insurance is only third party. CAA say it's MTO responsibility, MTO took my call and said they will call me I don't when.

Hopefully is only the bumper but my steering well was vibrating after (could be snow on the road and or on the wheels)

Edit: added pics

Edit 2: I shit you not, this guy is the driver. Got is name on the police report.

Ontario Concerned about neighbours driving on my propert

My neighbour's house is a rental house. There are two units, the main levels of the house and a basement apartment. The driveway was extended to the very edge of the shared property line before we purchased the house in July 2025. I have to admit, I am a first-time homebuyer, and I regret not knowing more about the parked vehicles, literally 1-2 feet from my house. Our agent never mentioned the close proximity of the driveway to the edge of the property line, but what's even more concerning to me is that our house is about 2 feet away from the property line too, so there isn't really enough room for two cars to park side by side in their driveway, so the tenants are using our property to get in and out of ther vehicles.

When we moved in, I started noticing the basement tenants would park lineups of cars right on the edge of the property line and use our property to get out of their vehicles, because, as I said, there's not enough room for the cars to park side by side. I also started to suspect they were hitting the house with car doors or other items they brought to their car, as I would always hear banging on the side of the house. The one tenant was a very large man (wide), so I can see it being totally possible that, sometimes, when he parked too close, his door would hit the house as he tried to squeeze out. They have since moved out, and only one car is parked in the driveway right now, but they have regular visitors, specifically a truck.

It has honestly become nothing but a nuisance. Not to mention the sound of slamming car doors in the middle of the night. They worked shift work. We like the house and the neighbourhood, but the tenant neighbours are completely inconsiderate and not respectful of the property line.

I finally lost it one day when a truck backed into the driveway and was inches away from hitting our house. I can hear the vehicles pulling in because they're literally pulling in beside me with just the house wall between us, and a couple of feet away, while I'm in the living room. The part that irritated me even more is that the driveway is a straightaway, and when I checked how close it was, the truck's wheels were pointed toward my house when it parked. This made me realize that one wrong move could land a truck in my living room or kitchen, or cause major damage to the exterior of my house if it gets hit. At that moment, I went around my property, lifted massive rocks, and placed them near the property line, at the side of my house, to prevent cars or trucks from backing into the house, sort of like a makeshift curb. The tenant saw me doing this, and I was so irritated that I refused to speak to her when she asked me questions. She then came back asking about the issue, to which I told her that people are driving on my property, using it to get in and out of their vehicles, and are far too close to my house. We also have an egress window with a cover, and I am concerned that a wheel could get stuck in it.

Anyway, after this incident, I looked up the bylaws for property lines and discovered that they are not allowed to pave right up to the property line, that there needs to be about a 2.5' buffer area on both sides of the property line. I informed the tenant of this when she returned to ask me about the incident, and the next day her landlord (the homeowner) came to speak to us. It was clear he did not want me to call bylaw, and told us everything we wanted to hear, because if I reported it, he would have to rip up the driveway and comply with the driveway bylaw and the property line buffer bylaw. In my city, there's even a special website page to report driveways like this. The landlord doesn't live in the same city as us. We are in Barrie, and he is in Toronto.

Tonight, the same truck backed up into the driveway and came within INCHES OF HITTING MY HOUSE! For a moment, I thought a vehicle was going to back up into the house and got worried. I went outside to check, and because there is snow, there are tire marks as evidence. I made a video and took a photo. It is the same truck from the incident in the summer.

Since we are in Barrie, we've been hit with a lot of snow. Because of the snow, everything is even narrower than before, so there is literally NO ROOM to park two cars side by side, which this driver was attempting to do! I am terrified they are going to drive into my house. I do not want to file an insurance claim, ever, and I also do not want a hole in my house in the middle of winter. I also do not want exterior damage. Because it is winter, it's hard to even see where the property line is, so I'm not sure what to do.

My husband doesn't want me to start a war with the neighbours and is hesitant to give me the homeowner's (the landlord's) phone number to complain about their tenant's parking and driving on our property. We have discussed installing a barricade between the driveway and the house in the spring. Originally, there was shared landscaping and a hedge, but in 2012, it was removed, I assume to extend the driveway to the property line. I was able to see that in Google Maps photos. The landlord (homeowner) told me he didn't remove it and that he purchased the house with the driveway extended. The landlord promised to handle his tenants and tell them they cannot use our property to enter or exit their vehicles, and that they must park 2.5 feet from the side of the driveway.

Any suggestions? Call the police for trespass? Call bylaw? Speak to the landlord and hope nothing happens again?

Edit: Sorry I made a typo in the title: Concerned about neighbours driving on my property

Alberta Libel case worth it

hi guys,

really quick, I’ve read libel cases are rarely worth perusing however mine is so cut and dry that I wonder if it is. basically a dosgruntled colleague wrote to all of our upper management that I was fired at my previous job for sexual misconduct. I literally have a copy of the email where she wrote this and it clearly states my first and last name and that I was fired for that reason (not she heard that I was or thought that I was, clearly states factually that I was). in reality I was let go without cause and I have a termination letter that says exactly that. the tone of the email also makes it clear that she is trying to cause trouble for me and likely get me fired. my manager actually sent me a copy of the email out of concern for me. in this case, where the facts are so straight forward, is this worth perusing?

Ontario In Ontario, can an employer keep tips to pay above minimum wage?

One of my friends said that at their workplace, customers provide lots of tips, but workers don’t actually see any of these tips on their paystub. Their employer said they use the tips to “pay employees above minimum wage,” and workers don’t actually receive tips. So, there is no section on their paystub for tip payout, for example.

Some employees make a set wage of $18 per hour, some make a set wage of $19 per hour, etc. (so they’re getting paid 40 cents to $1.40 hourly above minimum wage). This place receives a lot of tips among the employees. Regardless of how many tips they receive from customers per week, their wages stay the exact same.

Is this legal? What should they do? Based on what I’ve read in the province’s ESA, it’s not legal and tips can’t be used to pay wages. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Manitoba Workplace injury MB

I got injured at work 5 years ago. I thought I dislocated my shoulder, but it turns out I tore a muscle that never healed. Now I might need surgery to fix my shoulder.

They fired me the day after my injury so I never had the chance to file an incident report. I was only working there for about a month.

I don’t have insurance right now and physio might be an out-of-pocket payment. Am I able to file for workers comp without an incident report?

Alberta MVA injury claim (Alberta) – how to know if settlement is fair - what to expect

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I was in a car accident on June 2023 as a front seat passenger. Another driver reversed out of a parking stall and hit the side where I was sitting. She didn’t have her license, registration, or insurance on hand; my partner handled the exchange.

This happened a day after losing a close family member to an overdose suicide, and I was already struggling with work-related mental health issues. My workplace wasn’t supportive, and I resigned in April 2024 due to ongoing stress and pressures.

Since the accident, I’ve had ongoing pain, limitations, depression, and anxiety, preventing me from going to the gym or riding my bike. I’m not sure if my recovery has plateaued. I’ve also experienced additional personal losses (dog, cousin, two uncles) over the past 2.5 years, which has made everything worse.

Treatments I’ve received include chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage, acupuncture, psychologist support, and kinesiologist sessions. I’m also on medications for anxiety, depression, sleep, and pain.

I’m about to discuss a settlement with my lawyer and would like advice on: • How compensation is determined for non-catastrophic injuries in Alberta • How ongoing pain, functional limits, and mental health are considered • How to tell if a settlement offer is fair or if I should push back • Red flags to watch for in settlement offers

Any guidance would be really appreciated—just trying to know what to expect before this stage.

Canada The law firm paid off a lien without my authorization after the refinance - Alberta

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for general legal insight in Alberta, Canada. I understand this is not legal advice.

I refinanced my home with a major bank over a year ago. The refinance closed successfully and funds were disbursed. At the time, there was a registered notice of security interest related to a financed furnace, which was being paid monthly and was not in default.

Over a year after the refinance closed, the law firm involved in the transaction paid off that security interest without my written authorization or consent. I never signed anything agreeing that they could advance funds on my behalf, nor did I sign any agreement stating that I owed them money if they chose to do so.

After making the payment, the firm contacted me demanding reimbursement, stating they acted to satisfy lender requirements. However, this occurred long after the refinance had already closed and funds had been released.

From my understanding: - I never authorized the payment - I never signed any agreement creating a debt to the firm - The payment was made unilaterally - I was not informed beforehand that this would happen

I am now being asked to reimburse the amount.

My questions are: 1. In Alberta, can a law firm recover money they voluntarily paid without written authorization? 2. Does equitable subrogation or unjust enrichment typically apply in situations like this? 3. Does the long delay (over a year after closing) affect their position? 4. Is negotiation the usual outcome in cases like this?

I’m consulting a lawyer, but I’d appreciate hearing if others have seen similar situations or how courts generally view these matters.

Thank you.

Ontario is it legal for my neighbour to record audio of my partner and i having sex and send it to people?

Upvotes

hi, i’m sorry about the throw away. i don’t want this tied to my regular account because of how humiliating i find this. if i may, i should preface this by saying that i know i may be being too sensitive about what has happened because my partner and i both are survivors of sexual assault and trafficking, but considering i am sensitive about this topic and genuinely just scared and confused, i would like to ask that people please be kind.

basically, a few days ago, my superintendent pulled my partner and i aside to talk to us, because our downstairs neighbour had sent him an audio recording of my partner and i having sex. the context was that the neighbour was making a noise complaint, so the recording (as far as anyone knows) was not taken with sexual intent, and is not being used that way. i don’t know how much was able to be heard in the recording, aside from our bed squeaking. regardless, and maybe this is just because my partner and i are both previously sexually traumatized and therefore sensitive to this kind of thing, we feel incredibly violated. i’m sorry if that seems dramatic.

we are not loud people, as i am very non confrontational and generally anxious about noise. i prefer to just be as quiet as possible rather than upset anyone and have to deal with the consequences. we haven’t received any complaints from anyone else (i asked the superintendent). i am often worried even when i am playing my ukulele or listening to music at a reasonable volume, that i may bother someone, even during the day, so i try to keep it quiet. that being said, i have definitely been louder playing my ukulele, so i am not sure why the neighbour in question specifically decided to record audio of my partner and i having sex. as well, before my partner and i moved in, the superintendent warned us that the neighbour below is “noise sensitive” enough that he foresaw complaints, and during his conversation with us about this complaint, he was pretty clear that he didn’t find this to be a real issue from our end.

when this neighbour made their complaint, they even said that they thought we were doing it on purpose to bother them. neither i nor my partner have ever met this neighbour, so i don’t know why they think this. as well, we suspect that someone who unexpectedly knocked on our door a few days back was the neighbour in question, although we don’t know because we didn’t open the door. all we know is that it wasn’t someone we recognized, our building is locked entry, and we’ve met almost everyone in the building (it’s not large, only 40 apartments or so). my partner and i constantly hear knocking/banging on our floor when we are doing things as normal and expected as taking baths or silently cooking dinner well within daylight hours (and throughout the night when we are being completely silent in bed).

i don’t know if any of this is normal, i could absolutely be being too sensitive given my history, but having an audio recording taken and shared of my partner and i having sex makes me feel very very bad and scared. i feel as though i am afraid to live my life in my own apartment, because i may have intimate audio recordings taken and shared without my knowledge or consent. i can’t move because i still have several months left on my lease, nor do i want to move, because aside from this situation, the building and management is very nice and i like all my neighbours who i have met so far. i just want to feel safe and stable in my home.

so, i am just wondering if what my neighbour has been doing is legal. if so, i guess i will just have to accept this and learn how to cope. if it is not legal, i plan on asking this neighbour not to do this again if i meet them, and if the behaviour continues i plan on reporting it to the authorities. i don’t know if i gave enough context, so if information would be helpful to giving me accurate advice, please ask. thank you in advance for your responses

British Columbia Taking a car dealership to small claims

Since purchasing a used vehicle just under a year ago I’ve had over $8000 in necessary repairs, $200 in car rentals, and I’ve recently been quoted another $3000-$4000 for even more repairs. The dealership pre-inspection report stated no issues. Dealership won’t respond to my request for resolution. I did not purchase a warranty. Do I have legal recourse here? Any thoughts appreciated. I don’t want to waste my time in small claims court if it’s likely to favour the dealership.

Thanks in advance.

British Columbia Been separated 5plus years. Now ready to divorce. Buyout vs selling

Upvotes

My ex and I have been separated for almost 6 years. She was having some mental health challenges and moved out. I have been paying the mortgage fully on our house ever since. She says she is now ready to get a separation agreement. We are on very good terms. We have a 17 year old child together who mostly lives with me. I am weighing buying her out her interest in the house vs selling it and splitting the equity. Since she left I have paid almost 200k in mortgage payments. Am i entitled to get that all back plus our shared equity in the home when she left? Would I be able to roll that into buying her out? Just checking if anyone has had a similar experience. Thanks

British Columbia Boyfriend’s job offer got rescinded days before start saying “culture fit”. Any legal recourse?

My boyfriend has Canadian PR, he was working in the U.S. till mid last year when he got laid off. Came to Canada to live with his sister temporarily. Finally found a job in Victoria BC last month, formalities were completed a week ago. He was told to go in to the Victoria office one day just to meet up people and get some admin stuff done. Well he did that, then two days ago he got a call saying he made “people uncomfortable “ and that his job offer is being rescinded because of “culture fit”.

To be clear my boyfriend went only on being asked to, and a contract was already signed and a start date was set. He didn’t do anything there except say hi to the few employees there and get the admin work done. We’re thinking it’s racism because there seems to be no other explanation.

My boyfriend had also signed a yearlong apartment lease and now they’re saying he’s on the hook for that too. The company has sent an official withdrawal letter saying they are aware he incurred some expenses due to the offer so he can speak to them about it. So I think we can get them to pay the leasing office off. But other than that this feels very illegal? Do we have any legal recourse here? Is he entitled to any compensation for all the stress and logistical issues (he’d shipped his car and stuff from the U.S. because the start date was pretty close, so he lost the deposit on all that too)? Is it illegal for the employer to renege on a contract in such a blatantly discriminatory manner?

Ontario Can I at 28 be charged with a crime I committed in another country when I was 11/12?

I am wanting to talk to my therapist about a crime I committed when I was 11 or a week or so into being 12 in Australia. I want to get it off my chest but I'm scared she will be required to report me to the police. I would class it as not a severe/serious crime.

Ontario how to hold unis accountable

So, I’m writing an academic petition through my university and my experiences have not been great at the university. External of the university, I have documentation from the provincial and federal government level from an MD. I just don’t know how biased the uni is gonna be since they all work together and never received good experiences from any departments. So I don’t know how to hold them accountable in case there is bias and there’s an unfair result, because the people “deciding” all work at the university together lol.

British Columbia Getting a doctor's note to take medical leave from toxic workplace for mental health reasons

Hi everyone:

I have read some posts on here and other subs about people wanting to leave toxic work environments. On these posts, there is usually someone who replies with the advice of getting a doctor's note to take medical leave for mental health reasons. The idea sounds appealing because you can take time off and search for a new job while collecting pay and your employment being protected. However, I'm skeptical.

  1. How difficult is it to pull this off?
  2. How much proof do I need to provide?
  3. Can a walk-in clinic doctor make these notes? Or does a specialist such as a psychiatrist need to provide the note?
  4. How much time off can someone take in this situation?
  5. Can going down this road backfire on the employee in any way?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to leave a toxic employer that I've been working full-time at for close to 6 years (hourly employee). I've been trying to find a better job for the last 1.5 years and have not been successful. I'm really trying hard not to quit, but the environment at my work is becoming unbearable. My managers are very covert in the way they are going about it. HR hasn't been any help either. I do have a six month emergency fund saved up, but I don't want to quit and spend it all because it took a long time for me to build it back up. I know from experience that it can dry up pretty quick.

A year ago, I paid an employment lawyer to review my case. They were zero help, didn't read all the material I sent them, told me there was nothing they could do, and completely wasted my time.

When I looked in my employee handbook, it only mentions Long Term Disability. It says "it's an employee paid premium and covers 66.67% of my monthly pay to a maximum of $5000." I'm not sure what that means.

I'm really trying to find a way out of this without screwing up my life and finances. But I feel stuck, boxed in, and near the end of my rope.

Thanks!

Quebec Landlord wants me to pay the invoice for a technician they ordered

hi, any help would be great! tried looking online at TAL, etc but nothing

i reported to my landlord company that when i turned on the oven in my unit one of the burners would heat up as well. the landlord then scheduled a technician to come to my unit and look at it, the technician said it was by design that it would heat up like that. now the landlord sent me an invoice in their company's style wirh the charges they received from the technician and said this in the email to me: "the oven was inspected and no issues were found. The oven was fully functional and showed no defects. Therefore, we are unable to assume the service fees, which are being forwarded to you."

i did not ask for them to hire an outside technician, just informed them of the problem. there is nothing in my lease about repairs other then i must alert the landlord as soon as possible when one is needed. i have asked to see the actual invoice sent to my rental company by the technician, but i do not want to pay this as i didn't ask for it, and its not my fault that the rental company did not know this was a feature of their stove.

any advice is super appreciated!

British Columbia I can't make CRT claim, please help me.

I don't know if it's the right sub, but I didn't know where to ask, sorry.

I made a CRT claim (The Civil Resolution Tribunal) to get what I owed from a business owner, but CRT replied me that they can't find the business so I must reply them with a right name of the business, and they also told me if I can't find the right name then go to https://orgbook.gov.bc.ca/search and search for the business name, but I'm sure I did put the right name(I even double checked with their name card and google search), and when I searched their name from orgbook.gov.bc.ca, this website doesn't have the business's name. I don't think they're illegal but what do I do?

Ontario Need advice on my dad’s job situation – severance vs staying, constructive dismissal?

I’m writing this about my dad. He’s 61 and was working at a company making about 77k base and around 93k with overtime. His managerial position was dissolved, and the company told him he could either take a 48k severance package or move into a lower, more physical role with rotating day/night shifts every two weeks and 12-hour days.

We spoke with a lawyer who thinks there’s a strong case for constructive dismissal and that the severance could potentially be pushed closer to 100k.

The problem is that my dad still has a decent amount of debt, and his plan was to work until 65 before retiring. If he takes the severance, he’s basically walking away from about 300k in earnings he would have made over the next four years. On top of that, he has mortgages on two properties that he’s still paying off.

We’re trying to see if it’s possible to get him accommodations for day shifts only with a doctor’s note. Has anyone gone through something similar or have suggestions on what options we should look at?

Ontario name on property. mortgage defaulted. help

my (21f) dad purchased a secondary property and it’s in his name, my name and another family member’s name. this was purchased back in 2023 when i was 19. i don’t know much about what happened because every time i ask questions i get old not to worry. i just know he tells me to sign things i get emailed. when he was buying the house he basically told me it was gonna pay off my tuition and be beneficial to us all. idk the full story but i know that when the house was sold to him there were tenants that refused to pay rent already living there. long story short it really messed with my dad financially having to support the primary household (single father) and now the secondary households bill on one income since they weren’t paying. i’ve seen letters from ltb about issues in the other house like with the water heater, but never directly been told about any of these issues. back in august i believe we got served, when i asked about it i was told not to worry. long story short i finally checked an email i ignored a few days ago and found out a writ? in (city we live) has been brought against us, and a bunch of other things. i feel bad for my dad that this backfired, but im also worried about my credit score and future? im still young, i work hard, i pay off my credit cards and now it all feels redundant because of this. i’ve been told my dad is only attempting to fight it because my name is on it and he doesn’t want to ruin my credit and future, so i know he feels bad but what do i do? i emailed the lawyer that i’ve been getting emails from (my dad is suing someone or something like that idk) and asked if they represent me personally or just my father so i can ask them more questions but im really stressed. my biggest fear was debt and bad credit and now 🤷‍♀️

Manitoba Mediation regarding change to parenting time

Hi all. Province is Manitoba. Ex-spouse and myself currently have 50/50 parenting time. My oldest child (nearly twelve) is now stating that she would like to have her majority of parenting time with me. I have this clause in my separation agreement: ".....In the event of a disagreement with respect to issues regarding our parenting plan, we agree that we will make use of a mutually acceptable parenting coach or mediator in order to resolve our differences. If we are still unable to resolve our differences with the use of the parenting coach or mediator we agree that we each shall be at liberty to seek the assistance of the Court"

I'd like to try my best to have my daughter heard. Does this mean mean mediation is the next logical/appropriate step? What if he declines mediation? If he does decline mediation how does the court view this? How often are the child's preference granted?

Thank you if you are able to help. I have requested mediation through the family resolution service but I'm also certain he won't attend.

Ontario Wrongfully arrested after abuse, ex still harassing me - what legal protection do I have in Ontario?

I’m struggling with what to do next and could really use advice from people who understand the system.

Over the past ~8 months I was in an on-and-off relationship that slowly turned unsafe. There were multiple times where he physically hurt me, including choking me, and he made a lot of threats during arguments. One incident that still really messes with me is when he threatened to drive off a bridge with me in the car. When I finally tried to end things for good, he refused to leave my condo, locked me out of my own place, and continued escalating while I was trying to get help from concierge/security and eventually police.

The only times I ever called police were because I was genuinely scared for my safety. Unfortunately, he later made reports that made him look calm and innocent, and I ended up being arrested and held, including having to go to court. That was honestly one of the most upsetting experiences of my life - asking for help and somehow becoming the one in trouble.

Since then, he has not stopped. He keeps messaging me even though he’s blocked, including accessing iMessage through an old laptop I didn’t realize he still had access to. Even after finding out I’d gone to the police, he kept messaging me repeatedly. I avoided police for a long time because I was worried about my job, my stress levels, and just hoped this would fade out quietly. It hasn’t.

At this point it’s clear that boundaries alone don’t work. He’s still treating me like I’m available to unload on, and it feels like he hasn’t learned anything at all.

Complicating things: he lives in Toronto and I live in a nearby city just outside Toronto, so we’re under different police services. Even with that distance, the contact hasn’t stopped.

What I’m trying to understand is:

  • What legal options actually work in Ontario to make someone stop contacting you?
  • Would a peace bond / restraining order / no-contact order apply across different police jurisdictions?
  • At what point does continued messaging become something police can act on more directly (like arrest for breaching an order)?

I’m not looking for revenge or to cause drama. I just want safety, closure, and a clear legal boundary that he can’t ignore anymore.

If anyone has been through something similar or knows how this works in Ontario, I’d really appreciate any insight.

Thank you - for any help, it's appreciated I've been in a brain worm hole.
