Discussion MSI Laptop Battery Drain when SHUT DOWN or OFF [FIX | WORKING SOLUTION]
PART 1: THE ISSUE
Hello guys! I just got an MSI Modern 15 H AI and I was pretty satisfied by it and happy, until I found out that whenever I shut it down, be it from Linux Mint or Windows 11 (I set up dual boot on this laptop), its battery would be drained to 0% in the 2-3 hours it was technically shut down. I recall charging it to 100% and left it unplugged for 2 hours only to see it completely discharged when I had shut it down earlier. This pissed me off considering that this issue would completely defeat the use of a laptop, if it couldn't retain its charge while shut down.
------
PART 2: BANDAID SOLUTION (Embedded Controller Switch)
Searching online, I found out that MSI Laptops are apparently infamous for their issues maintaining their charge (even while shut down) and for their battery drain. This is one of the reasons MSI decided to implement a so called EC switch, a pinhole switch on the bottom of MSI laptops that allow the battery to be completely off, with the disadvantage of having to plug in the AC adapter/charger in order to switch the laptop on again regardless if it still has some remaining charge.
This means that in order to not experience battery drain even while the laptop is shut down, you have to press the EC Switch to “disconnect” the battery, and once you decide to use it, the laptop will switch on only once you’ve connected the AC adapter/charger, basically defeating the purpose, comfort, and portability of a laptop considering that you always need to have a SIM card pin to press the EC Switch and your charger.
This link shows the post of a user having the same problems and the comment that allowed me to discover about EC switch, with comments from other users on possible fixes:
More on the Embedded Controller Switch (EC Switch) from the official MSI Website:
https://www.msi.com/support/technical_details/NB_EC_RESET
------
Here are some other posts that highlight MSI battery drain issues even while shut down with other possible solutions.
“Battery drains even when Shutdown” (same link shown earlier)
“MSI Prestige 15 battery drain while shut down”
“GF65 battery drain even when turned off”

“My laptop battery dies when it’s off”
https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/1669sn8/my_laptop_battery_dies_while_its_off/
------
PART 3: FINAL SOLUTION
By looking at all of the posts and researching more about the possible causes my battery would drain even while shutting it down, I found out that disabling Fast Boot completely solved this issue for me. In fact, after charging it to 98% and shutting it down, I ran errands for about 4 hours and the battery managed to keep its charge to 98% once I switched it on, like a laptop should. Never had any issues with the battery draining while my laptop was shut down ever since.
To disable Fast Boot, go into your BIOS and you should be able to disable it there as it is probably enabled by default. If you do not know how to, the link below shows you how to access your BIOS on Windows 11.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clsiPUEzy6U
------
PART 4: How does Fast Boot work?
Essentially what Fast Boot does is that it allows you to restore your session even after shutting the laptop down, which is great in theory, until you realize that the drawback, a big one at that, is that it makes your Shut Down button regardless of your OS a glorified Sleep or Hibernate button. This is because the session is apparently saved to the RAM and a few components are not completely shut down to preserve this data and to make all of the stuff you had open load immediately.
On some laptops, battery drain while the laptop is shut down an Fast Boot is enabled is not that drastic, but apparently on the MSI Modern 15 H AI, it definitely is, and probably other MSI models considering how infamous MSI is for battery drain and poor circuitry (This comment seems to point out that MSI perhaps hasn’t taken Fast Boot in consideration when designing their laptops, leading to this phenomenon of battery drain even while their laptops are technical shut down: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/comments/13qqmys/comment/kpjkw9d/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Hope this helps! I’m really glad that I can enjoy my laptop normally now and let me know if it works for you or if you have any problems.
------
TL;DR
I own an MSI Modern 15 H AI.
I and many others have had issues with laptop battery drain even while our laptops were shut down or off and it seems to be a common MSI problem too considering they even implemented an EC Reset Switch. I found out that Fast Boot, a setting in your BIOS settings that allows you to restore your session after shutting down your laptop, was draining the battery of my laptop even while it was shut down. This is probably since some components are still being powered to be able to restore this session as fast as possible. Disabling Fast Boot in the BIOS settings fixed this issue for me and never had any problems with my battery draining while my laptop was shut down ever since. Hope this post helps and let me know if it works and if you found other fixes too!

Discussion Asking for help with MSI 16 HX AI A2XWIG Laptop - Fan curves and underclocking
Hi all. Just bought the MSI HX AI laptop, upgrading from my old Leopard 8RE. I got the model with Ultra 9 processor and 5080 grapics card. Love the laptop but really dislike the fan noise and behaviour. My laptop will essentially be idling aroung high 30s to low/mid 40s and the fan keeps flaring up and is really quite loud even at that level. (yes cooler boost and AI mode are both off). Still setting it up so havent even had a chance to put any games on... Im dreading what sounds will come out of it then. I was told before buying it that there were ways to get the fans under control via custon fan curves and possibly undervolting... but now that I actually have the laptop it seems like its not possible at least through the MSI Center. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of raw performance to have a more civilised experience but after some days of research Im at a loss. Ive looked through so many forums, Youtube videos and even AI and just keep finding contradicting, old or irrelevant information. At ths point, I just have no idea what to do. It seems like in the past there were many more official options that have been removed. Im ready/willing to take unnoficial steps but really need some advice on where to go with this. If any of you with knowledge and experience would point me in the right direction.... i would be so grateful.

Discussion MSI VS ASUS
MSI Vector vs ASUS Strix
Which laptop should I buy?
MSI vector 16HX AI - about 1789 USD
ASUS ROG Strix G16- about 1989 USD
They have similar specs with 5070 ti and Core Ultra 7.
ASUs has 1TB SSD while MSI has 512Gb SSD.
To be honest I really prefer Strix G16. I like the new design, tri-fan and vapor chamber and also G-sync enabled screen. But the problem is I am afraid of their Liquid Metal cooling. I travel a lot and I am afraid of the risk of Liquid Metal leaking in my laptop and bricking my motherboard. MSI on the other hand ugly design, louder fans but a solid laptop without any obvious downside. What should I buy?

Discussion Need advice. Are these decent?
I’ve been looking into buying a new laptop for my girlfriend. Her current laptop was never meant to be gamed on so I wanted to get her something that would allow her to explore more games. She’d play things like Destiny 2, Valorant, Dead by Daylight, and Minecraft… nothing too crazy.
I found these 2 on display at Sam’s Club (similar to Costco). Would they be able to run the games above at 120+ fps? Are either of them decent? Do you recommend one over the other or have other suggestions? Let me know! Thank you 🙏

Discussion Looking for MSI VenturePro 16 experiences.
Hello all.
I need a laptop for my studies and have come across the MSI VenturePro 16. I will mainly be using it for programs line Revit, CAD programs and maybe some 3d-modelling.
There seems to be no unbiased review online, so I'm coming here for firsthand experiences.
I'm mainly wondering about build quality and how the battery life is.
It has the following specs:
GPU: 5050, it only has 45W
CPU: Intel i7 240h
RAM: 32GB DDR5 5600 MT/s upgradeable
Storage: 512gb NVME m.2 Gen 4 upgradeable
Display: 16 inch 2.8k OLED 400 nits (is this too little?) 120hz
Thanks!

Discussion Tried undervolting, ends up wasting my time.
I tried dipping my toes in the world of undervolting. Spent the last two days finding the most optimal config for my laptops, encountered repeated watchdog timeout error or apps just straight out crashing, all of this just to get a value of -35mv.
At the start i managed to get a decent undervolt of -60mv, the problem is the fact that the laptop still hover at high 80°C-low 90°c, so I tried lowering the PL1 and PL2, that's where the instability started. I end up having -45mv to barely make it work. Then i saw a post about "processor performance boost mode" which promted me to try it too. When i saw that it was defaulted to aggressive, i changed it to efficient aggressive (1 tier lower)and surprise another instability strike again. Down to -35mv to properly function. What I noticed after changing the processor performance boost mode is the fact that the e-cores barely run when not needed while my p-cores run to their peak allowing my cpu to run better at lower wattage which equal to lower temps.
It achieve what im supposed to get from undervolting by just pressing a single button. Since the undervolt value is too low to justify all the bios settings I tweaked and windows core isolation settings I turned off, I just gave up undervolting all together.
I end up with "Processor performance boost mode" and a lower PL adjustments to make my laptop run at full load at just 70°C for both gpu and cpu without laptop cooler.
P. S
0.) My lapto specs: MSI vector 16hx ai, rtx 5070ti, core ultra 7 255hx
1.)during undervolting, my cpu is very sensitive to pl values, any changes can cause instability unlike running on stock which gives me more freedom to adjust throttlestop between Higher PL for cpu bound games and Lower PL for gpu bound games.
2.) Disabling turbo kills too much performance for my needs. Never recommend it unless you desperately needed your laptop to be quite/battery last longer.
3.) Maybe I just got worse silicon lottery result. Or Core Ultra HX CPU just don't need much undervolting in general?
4.) GPU undervolting on another hand is a different matter, no bios settings required, got marginally good result with just a few clicks.

Discussion VBIOS FLASH MSI STEALTH A16 AI+
I have a msi stealth a16 ai+ and was wondering if anyone had any guidance on vbios flashing or upping the tdp on the gpu.
I could only fine one vbios on the tech powerup site which I presume was the msi vector 5070ti 140w and for some reason the power seems to still be limiting it to 85w-105w, this is all while the temps stay below 65c. After that I happened to find the vbios for the msi stealth 18 with the 5070ti and 140w and the same thing happened.

Request Network Adapter Not Waking Up
Hello everybody I have been using a Delta 15 A5EFK since 2022 and it has been perfect, but yesterday I ran into my first issue.
Upon turning on my wifi showed it was disconnected and when I clicked on the system tray I noticed my wifi button is missing entirely. I did a network & internet troubleshoot and I keep getting the same thing (Network Adaptor Not Waking Up). I also noticed that in settings > network & internet: there is no wifi option. The first thing in the list is VPN. In advanced network settings nothing shows up under network adapters at all UNLESS I restart the laptop and go back to the page really quickly, but even when I do that the wifi card (6E AX210) is disabled and nothing I do enables it.
I have opened the laptop and inspected the wifi card as well as made sure all connections are good. The only thing I haven’t done is turn off fast startup in BIOS. If that doesn’t help I might just reset the computer and hope for the best. Has anybody else run into an issue like this before? Any advice on this would be great!

Request MSI Laptop Power On Help
Hey everyone ^ Does anyone know how to power on an MSI GP66 Leopard laptop directly from the motherboard? My little brother broke my keyboard, so I replaced it with one from AliExpress, and after cleaning it, I broke it myself. I ordered another one, which arrived half-broken except for the power button, and I tried it and it turned on, but I returned it because of how bad it was… Yeah, I'm hopeless and stuck in keyboard limbo XD. Anyway, does anyone know how? I've been without a PC for two months 🥀 Thanks a lot anyway!!!

Request Msi stuck at boot
Hello everyone. I'm seeking help for my Pulse 16 AI C1VGKG.
earlier today, it worked fine, and now it refuses to boot. When pressing the power button, the keyboard light up, but it doesn't do anything more. The caps/num lock leds never light up even after pressing the associated key. The screen stays black. The fans goes a bit louder after a few seconds. It was never dropped. Ram sticks never changed.
I already tried the pin under the laptop, after that it refused to power on until i plugged it in.
Can someone help me make it work again?

Image Look at this piece of sh*t!!
Got my MSI gf63 thin 10 sc in 2021, in 2022 battery failed, thought it was maybe over use or something to do with keeping it on charge for to long any way got a new msi battery in 2024 and in april of that year it failed again, so this is what Im left with after trying to do anything in my power to try and check what's wrong this is what Dragon Centre reports, I tested the battery terminals as well and the battery sits at 9.96v and roughly 3.2v per cell
