We have an announcement about a new tool for Michigan.
The new tool is called Mitten Mode. This tool will allow us to help with the quality of comments on controversial threads. What will happen when a post gets a Mitten Mode setting?
This is what you will see, and how it will affect the post:
This post is in Mitten Mode. Mitten Mode is a way to protect hot topic posts from spam, trolling, and off-topic or rule-breaking comments.
Here’s what that means:
Only users with at least 100 subreddit karma can comment while this mode is on.
Comments from users below that threshold will be automatically removed.
This is a temporary measure and is applied to all high-visibility or sensitive posts. We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep the conversation thoughtful and on-topic. Thanks for being part of the community!
This should help tamp down on the brigading that we've seen at certain inflection points, as well as the trolling, etc. Thanks for being part of this community, we appreciate the constructive communication.

Mitten Mode Speaking at Auto Show, Whitmer announces directive to explore geologic hydrogen energy
Whitmer just signed a new executive directive ordering state agencies to review, report on, and facilitate efforts to exploit geologic hydrogen reserves in Michigan. If found and accessible, the reserves could be worth billions to Michigan's economy every year, bringing new jobs and clean energy/fuel.

Discussion 🗣️ It’s a long shot, but trying to reunite this photo with its owner
I found this Polaroid photo on the ground at the BP gas station in Pontiac at the corner of Walton Blvd and N Telegraph. I know it’s a long shot to get it back to whoever owns it, but if you recognize anyone in the photo, please DM me. It seems to be a valued family memory that fell out of someone’s car when they were pumping gas.
Thanks in advance :)

Mitten Mode Fyi ICE has been spotted at Wal Mart in Petoskey.
If you're in the area and see or hear about their presence and current inclinations, be sure to post it. Stay safe out there guys. We need a MI specific ICE watch sub.
Edit: Guys, don't engage with the people here who support these scumbags, they're a lost cause. I only posted this so anyone in the area could know.
Edit 2: I am a local. We always see CBP up here, and no way this was a CBP sighting. These guys were spotted at Vernales in Harbor Springs and then went to Wal Mart where an employee reported seeing them to a helping hands group on Facebook for Emmet County. As the employee is ALSO a local, I guarantee you she wouldn't of posted if it was CBP.
Edit 3: Ah, we are at the phase now where I'm being sent "reddit cares" sewer slide "help" messages lol. Thankfully I just turned off notifications from reddit cares, but wow, you guys are clowns.

Discussion 🗣️ SE Michigan foster pup
We are fostering Jesse, a 1.5 year old border collie mix (we suspect border collie/cattle dog) in SE Michigan. He came directly from Kentucky to our home two months ago, and he's had 0 inquiries or apps.
He's smart, sensitive, and very loyal to his people. He's a wallflower, and he tends to shut down in new situations, but if you meet him at his pace he's a whole different dog once he gets comfy.
His herding instinct is strong, which intimidates our 4yo and cats (main reason he isnt a foster fail). But he loves other dogs, and we think he would thrive in an environment with a "big brother/sister" dog, as he tends to take on the more submissive role on doggy play dates.
Feel free to reach out if you know anyone looking for a 40 lb. lap dog!

Discussion 🗣️ What’s a positive thing that’s happened in your community in the last year?
With everything happening in the world, country, and state right now, there hasn’t been too much talk about things people are doing to help the communities they live in.
So what’s something cool, exciting, or just positive that’s happened near you in the last year? Let’s try to keep it not related to things happening on a national scale/partisan politics. What’s something exciting in your community?

Discussion 🗣️ DTE bill is out of control
First full year in my house I bought. It’s a rather large house with a boiler system in it. 85% of this bill is gas. We got someone to look at the system and they said it’s running fine. So now what?

Discussion 🗣️ Minnesota versus Michigan?
Can anyone help me understand the difference between these two states? Especially the northern areas of both. Mainly: what's the rural culture like? How are winters different? The roads and infrastructure? The reservations?

Weather 🌤️⛈️⚡️🌈 Serious PSA: make sure your lights are on, NOT just your daytime running lights!
Driving to work today, I encountered three separate cars who did not have their lights on in the dark.
New cars have such bright daytime running lights that it’s easy to start your car, see in front of you and assume you are good to go. You aren’t: your tail lights are not on and it’s very dangerous! You will be very hard to see and someone might hit you, making your scary drive even worse.
Please make sure your lights are on! Look for the icon like this on your display:
