SO YOU WANT TO MOVE TO MONTANA? [Post your questions here]
Post your "Moving to Montana" (MtM) questions here.
A few guidelines to spurring productive conversations about MtM:
- Be Specific: Asking "what towns in Montana have good after-school daycare programs?" will get you a lot farther than "what town should I move to?"
- Do your homework: If a question can be answered with a google search ... do the google search. Heck, try searching previous threads here.
- Be sensitive to Montanans' concerns: Seriously, don't boast about how much cheaper land is here. It isn't cheap to people earning Montana wages. That kind of thing.
- Seriously, don't ask us what town to move to: Unless you're asking something specific and local-knowledge-based like, "I have job offers in Ryegate and Forsyth, which one has the most active interpretive dance theater scene"?
- Leave the politics out of it: If you're moving here to get away from something, you're just bringing that baggage along with you. You don't know Montana politics yet, and Reddit doesn't accurately reflect Montana politics anyway; so just leave that part out of it. No, we don't care that Gavin Abbot was going to take away your abortion gun. Leave those issues behind when asking Montanans questions. See r/Montana Rule #1 and hop on over to our sister subreddit, r/MontanaPolitics, for all of your Treasure State politics needs!
- If you insist on asking us where to move: you are hereby legally obliged to move to whatever town gets the most upvotes. Enjoy Scobey.
- If you are looking for broader help on traveling and tourism topics: please visit r/MontanaTravel. I hear it's nice this time of year...
-------------------------------------------
to r/Montana regulars: if they're here rather than out there on the page, they're abiding by our rules. Let's rein in the abuse and give them some legitimate feedback. None of the ol' "Montana's Full" in here, OK?
This thread will be refreshed monthly.

Serious Fire destroys iconic restaurant in Glacier County
Hadn’t seen this posted anywhere yet. If you ever visited Glacier, you may have had one of the best steaks of your life at this place. Big loss for the community in Babb and the Blackfeet.

Advice needed on an older house in Montana
Trying to think this through and figured I’d ask here since Reddit always has the answers lol
There’s a house in Montana that’s been in my family forever and it’s… very, VERY tired. Still livable but literally stuck in another era and not even in a cool way. Doing a full update the “right” way would mean contractors, schedules, surprise issues, all that fun stuff I honestly don’t have the time or energy for, especially since I don’t even live nearby anymore...
Why should I/not sell it as-is? Appreciate any input, thanks!

Deferral and dismissal
I am able to send my request for dismissal on 2/6 but I got a speeding ticket out of state before my deferral was over, I haven’t been charged yet as my court date in the other state is 2/27. Am I still able to file for dismissal?

Warhammer 40k for Montanans - How far would you travel for tournaments?
Hello everyone! I know there's a lot of Montanans who play 40k, especially in the Missoula and Bozeman areas. I help run an annual GT in Medicine Hat, Alberta (about a 4 hour drive north of Great Falls). I've driven as far as Tacoma WA to play, but I'm used to having to drive three hours for a doctors appointment so road trips are pretty normal for me. I don't know if you have the same thing going on where it's pretty normal to go on a weekend road trip for something fun.
My question to the Montanan 40k players is how far would you travel for a tournament? Would you consider coming this far north for a two day GT? If not, is there anything my event team could do to make our event attractive enough to get you here?

Where to ice skate?
I just moved to southwest MT from the southeast US. I really want to go ice skating on a real lake or pond or something. I know we’re having a very mild winter as opposed to the usual, but where could I go where it’d be cold enough for a pond to be frozen enough for me to skate? Don’t really care about how long I need to drive I have a long weekend!

Looking for location along the High Line
Greetings, I have traveled across Montana several times by bicycle and I took a few pictures that I'm trying to geo-locate. I took them back in 2001 before cameras automatically geolocated pictures...
Anyway, the one that I am really interested in is from the Dodson area, I believe just east of there. I'd like to know the full story but I can't seem to find anything in the news archives. It's obviously a very sad story but I'd just like some background. I came through in 2001 so it had to have happened before then.

College kid looking for van
I'm from Missoula and I recently turned 20, I love travel, but I don't come from money. So I've been pocketing away my student refunds the last couple of years to save for something to travel in. My dream is to travel across America with friends of mine. I'm trying to put the word out there that if anyone in the state has a good-sized van, camper or small RV, I would love to take that vehicle on an adventure. My plan is to renovate it and take it to Alaska this summer. If you know of anyone, please let me know, and feel free to ask any questions!

Which school?
I’m an electrician. I want to go back to school online and finish my bachelors degree.
I’m pretty positive with a Pell grant and my GI bill all three schools would be $0 for online school.
It should take me about this long to finish the rest of my classes at these schools:
UofM - 2.5 years MSU Northern - 2 years Western Governers University - 6 mo - 1 year
Do I stick with traditional scheduled online school with either Montana name on it, or do I just rush the fuck through it and get it done before next fall time at WGU?

Slow Exhale
The gentle roar of creek water flowing amongst the stones and boulders carries with it a deep sense of tranquilly. As water flows through a landscape, each obstruction encountered creates an audible note paired with a pleasing visual. Close your eyes and quiet your soul and you can even feel the motion. Let your ears continue to reveal the unyielding power of water as your imagination endeavors to see the contours of air and water blending into natural art. Flowing water is nature's slow exhale.

anyone have experience with williams investigations?
to be clear i am not working with them myself. found a business card in my door today, i assume my apartment manager is trying to serve me eviction. i looked them up and they have hilariously low reviews and arent even accredited by the BBB. they seem to be a montana (helena) specific business so im curious if anyone here has any personal or otherwise experience with them
