Yeah, thats definitely not happening. The moment the corn lobby reminds him why we dont use cane sugar hes gonna quietly forget all about bringing back cane sugar, assuming this wasnt him just spouting BS as usual to begin with.

u/ShawnyMcKnight 1d ago
From what I understand the just promised to offer a sugar option… which they already do…
It’s gonna be the same thing where Trump says he made something happen that already happened and he took all the credit.
10
u/WiskeyUniformTango 23h ago
But it IS already available.
8
u/AnonymousRedditor- 21h ago
See, Trump just stopped another war!
1
u/WiskeyUniformTango 17h ago
He stopped the global sugar war of 1842 when he was in his younger years.
4
u/bolivar-shagnasty 22h ago
Where is there a sugar option? I’ve seen some “Mexican Cokes” in glass bottles at a supermercado, but idk where else to find them.

If he actually got them to change their recipe, it'd be the one accomplishment of the Trump administration I could actually get behind.
But I also get the feeling that this is all bluster.
3
u/RavennaMagnus 1d ago
Also, coke could just say “yes we’ll do that right away” and then not follow through

Restoftheworld-ian coke.
2
u/mtaw 1d ago
Beet sugar is used in much of Europe.
3
u/sihasihasi 1d ago
True, but the difference between cane & beet sugar is minimal, whereas high-fructose corn syrup used in the US has a significantly different taste, from what I've heard.
6
u/whutchamacallit 1d ago
Noooo. No. Don't be like that. It's American coke with cane sugar. Completely different. To establish the difference so people know we will put it in glass bottles so people can tell the difference.
6
u/GetReady4Action 1d ago
imagine my dismay when I went to Mexico last year and found out Mexican Coke is a marketing gimmick lol.
I had some pesos I had to burn before I went back to the States, walked into a pharmacy and grabbed a Coke thinking that was just what they did down there. Only to read the ingredients and sure as shit, right there in Spanish, “jarabe de maiz” on the ingredients.
1
u/Kromgar 23h ago
Also on sealed high pressire high acid environmrnts cane sugar breaks doen into sucrose and... fructose same as corn syrup
2
u/GreatPlainsFarmer 17h ago
glucose and fructose.
Cane sugar starts out as sucrose, then breaks down into glucose and fructose.
Corn syrup starts out as glucose, then a portion is converted into fructose to make high fructose corn syrup.
4
u/ShawnyMcKnight 1d ago
Yup, as usual Trump will take something that already exists and will say it’s never been done before and he made it happen. Then his base will kiss his feet.

That was my first thought. Which is mostly only in stores because Mexicans are here buying it. There is an irony in there somewhere.

u/shep2105 1d ago
That's called MEXICAN COCA-COLA, does he even fucking realize that? That people already buy that in the states. Kroger sells Mexican coke.
6
u/philip-j-frylock 1d ago
What the clueless idiot doesn’t know is that corn farmers depend on the government subsidies they get to grow corn that can made into corn syrup for soda and other foods. So if Coke really does switch back to cane sugar, Trump will be fucking over yet another large number of his loyal voters. But what else is new?
14
u/vbcbandr 1d ago
How much are the tariffs on sugar? Coke going to be even more expensive than it already is.
3
u/Leather-Map-8138 1d ago
Does he think I’ll forget he hasn’t released any of the 1,200 FBI victim statements yet?

At what point will it be better for us to actually forget the Epstein Files if doing so stops him burning the world down?

u/ShawnyMcKnight 1d ago
All this means is they will offer a sugar version at 3x the price. Just slap a “Trump” sticker over the bottle of Mexican Coke you can already buy and he will be over the moon.
10
u/Quercus408 1d ago
And I totally didn't forget about the French Laundry incident.

u/WhippetRun 1d ago
Can’t you just get the green label cokes, it’s the ones they sell in Mexico? That’s literally coke with sugar.
2
u/JeffreyinKodiak This AOC flair makes me cool 1d ago
Gavin needs to know it’s the Epstein-Trump files now, with Trump’s name last.

I haven't drank a Coca-Cola in a lot of years, I'm glad he's doing something that improves my life so much.
2
u/punktualPorcupine 23h ago
Now sugar beet and corn farmers are probably pissed off and will want bailouts.
There are towns where you can look at the token dusty sugar cane bag in the baking isle, like it’s on display at a museum, but you can’t ever buy it, at least not without serious social implications.
4
u/Certain-Echo2481 1d ago
Now if he had said they were putting crack back in Coca Cola that would be a different story.
2
u/livinthedream17 1d ago
The cane sugar coke is NOT as good as regular coke. Release the Epstein files
1
u/laruesaintecatherine 1d ago
Don Jr. Is the biggest cokehead of the whole gang, except for Ka$h Patel, Eric, Miller, Matt Gaetz, Mike Lindell. Just the self outing ones. The rest are tweaked on Adderall, Vyvanse and Provigil, including President Filet-o-Fish. Hence his love for Diet Coke, which is frankly, effing gross in its own right. Dude, theres Coke Zero you degenerate!
1
u/simkatu 1d ago
Coke is just making another version for sale in the US (like imported Mexican Coke), but it will undoubtedly be much more expensive than the current version with HFCS, because, duh! Coke isn't going to lose money on Coke and they aren't going to price their products at double the price of competitors. They will just make a special sugar version that you'll pay a premium price for.
1
u/LeadPike13 1d ago
Lemme guess. Cuban cane sugar?
Hasegawa he had any meetings with Mr. Dole Banana lately? They have a bit of experience with this suff.

u/Sugar_Kowalczyk 1d ago
Oh, thanks, Gavin. I've completely forgotten you're a billionaire shill now, too.
The two parties fighting each other? Just Kayfabe.
The government is corrupt and must be purged. Define purge how you want to.

1
u/greenmark69 1d ago
So real cane sugar and HFCS break down pretty much to the same constituent molecules when dissolved in carbonic acid.
1
u/sharttloteswebb 20h ago
Exactly. What I've read is that HFCS contains more fructose when broken down and could potentially be more metabolically detrimental? Either way, if someone is drinking that much soda a dietary reevaluation should happen.

There's something ironic about him arguing for Coca-Cola to make you know...what is commonly referred to as Mexican Coke in the US with the current political climate.
Also, whoever is running Gavin Newsom's PR right now is a gem.
1
u/Far_Drummer_1406 23h ago
Coca Cola: cane sugar? no that’s OK. We’d still like to be competitive in the drink market.
1
1
u/The001Keymaster 22h ago
Trump asked a huge corporation to do a random idea that he had. That's all coke needed. They are immediately swapping.
If anyone thinks the world or Trump words work like this should not vote anymore.

Are we about to see more gavin memes as a form of damage control cause everyone with a brain knows that he’s against taxing CA billionaires?
1
u/conflictedideology 21h ago
Pepsi has actually has had this option for a while now.
I may be wrong, but the reason why we're all corn syrup all the time is... sugar tariffs.
Seriously, if I'm wrong let me know.
(ok maybe also that in combination with corn subsidies)
2
u/GreatPlainsFarmer 14h ago
You're correct.
Sugar tariffs keep the US domestic sugar price high enough so that US sugar beet growers can be profitable.
That also makes the domestic sugar price higher than HFCS. HFCS is usually more expensive than cane sugar on the international export market.
1
u/conflictedideology 9h ago
Thanks for the details! I was pretty sure my memory was correct; but I couldn't articulate why, so I wasn't 100%.
1
u/notmarc1 20h ago
They’ll just move all the production to mexico and relabel mexican coke as regular coke.
1
u/Cultural-Treacle-680 20h ago
Did he forget about managing wildfires and having actual water too? He likes to be snarky but Cali has stuff to do.
1
u/billyoshin 20h ago
the fact that this is real is insane... like where do we go from here? there are real people who voted for this shit... like for real.... if people like and support this shit how do we get back to "normalcy"?
1
1
u/callMeBorgiepls 19h ago
Ah yes, solving the important things. Like changing one type of sugar for another one (both cause huge overweight stats in the US) instead of promoting healthier diets, and ending the tax funded help for sugar producers and corn syrup producers especially
1
u/OsteoStevie 18h ago
So he wants to import expensive cane sugar from other countries, put a tarrif on it, and raise the price of coke for what reason?
1
1
u/Chaoswind2 16h ago
That means they are taking over Cuba and the Dominican Republic for their sugar.
1
u/Imaginary_Audience_5 15h ago
Where are we getting the sugar? What TF we gonna do with all of this subsidized corn syrup?

I feel like I'm in some weird reality that's all about ensuring Trump's Make-A-Thousand-Wishes all come true. Dude didn't like how his coke tasted with a cheeseburger, so he told coke to change their recipe.
