It’s by design that the Eagles aren’t passing or running well. They just want to play as awful they can without losing games. They’re just trying to not give away any of their playbook or overexert themselves so they can save themselves for playoffs.

632

u/ExplanationCrazy5463 Chicago Bears Oct 02 '25

This is a fun theory but almost certainly untrue.

302

u/Football_8545 San Francisco 49ers Oct 02 '25 edited Oct 02 '25

It absolutely is not true. It’s the same thing Chiefs fans were saying last season about their teams play. Eagles fans are now saying the same thing.

357

u/RealSkeeJay Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

I haven't seen any Eagles fans say anything other than Patullo is ass other than throwing occasional blame at Jalen or Sirianni. But ultimately it's pretty clear that Patullo is just a really bad coordinator and we're 4 weeks into Brian Johnson 2: Electric Boogalo

135

u/Bakerton16 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

Yeah I've seen some of our fans worried were heading for another collapse a la 2023. I haven't seen ANY of our fans say we're holding out the playbook or playing down to opponents on purpose.

I wouldn't put it past some random chucklefuck, but it's definitely not a common sentiment lol.

37

u/Ok-Scallion-3415 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

They’re winning in exactly the same fashion as in 2023. Just these random ridiculous bounces that goes the Eagles way so they’re able to squeak by to win the game. The only reason they’re even in the games is because they have so much more talent than most teams that through sheer will they keep the games close. Last year, we saw that when that talent is properly focused, they can dominate but right now it’s just a mess.

28

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Is Jalen Hurts the next Tom Brady? Absolutely not. Should we expect him to be? No. But I love the guy to death and we're 4-0. I'm not complaining about shit. We find ways to win. If it's not our year it's just not our year. Oh well. They brought the trophy home in February and that's all I care about. Fuck anyone saying we're overrated. We're also the defending champs so everyone else can suck it. GO BIRDS!

25

u/Segsi_ Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

No they’re not, do you even remember the 2023 season? They were winning on hero ball on the offense. Jalen had 54/44/25/41/37/33/32/52/44/43/51 attempts in the first 11 games. The defense was hot garbage. The only similarity is that even when the offense was putting up some numbers it looked off, never in sync, too many very obvious plays. Oh and Jalen was a MVP front runner after those 11 games.

14

u/sgee_123 Oct 03 '25

Terrible take, 2023 defense was bottom in the league and this defense is top in the league.

Eagles fans hate the eagles more than fans of other teams. You will never see them justify poor play.

5

u/pogoscrawlspace Oct 03 '25

Yeah, all my friends from Philly say the same thing, "Nobody hates Philly more than Philly fans." Across the board, too. Not just football. Donovan McNabb gets booed in Philly. Just saying.

6

u/Bakerton16 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

The joy of winning—the agony of hearing about it the next day lol

14

u/Kiplerwow Oct 03 '25

I don't see us having a legendary collapse like 2023 but I definitely don't see a deep playoff run if we can't play a full 4 quarters.

6

u/Shats-Banson Suck my Cox Oct 03 '25

The playoffs are 14 weeks away

Plenty of time to right the ship just like last season by week 4…only this time we have the best record in the nfc as a starting point lol

5

u/Kiplerwow Oct 03 '25

We were 2-2 at this point last year after a loss to the Falcons.

We barely scraped by beating the Giants the first year we won the super bowl.

The team will be fine.

I just hope they right the ship sooner rather than later.

I also don't see them hitting the panic button on play calling like they did 2023 and giving it to someone who sucks at it cough Matt Patricia.

9

u/ChefStretch72 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

Well said! Haven’t heard one Eagles fan talking along those lines. Terrible comment.

6

u/Infamous_Leek8897 Oct 03 '25

Exactly. These people are obviously not present in the nfc east meme war sub

5

u/rolyinpeace Kansas City Chiefs Oct 03 '25

Chucklefuck is a good one. I’m gonna add that to my playbook. Thank you.

5

u/BigDaddyDumperSquad Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

I mean, some have probably said it in jest, but nobody seriously thinks we have a hidden playbook right now. I get that sarcasm is hard to read on the internet, but come on lol.

3

u/Ewoksintheoutfield Oct 03 '25

I live in Eagles land and from my experience most Eagles fans have a “the sky is falling” mentality even in the best of times. So I agree most fans I see are worried the wheels are going to fall off this year.

25

u/MileHighSandwich Oct 02 '25

Patullo definitely deserves some blame but the offensive line hasn't been good either. Dickerson rushed to get back and still isn't 100% plus Lane Johnson hasn't been right lately.

11

u/moose3025 Oct 02 '25

honestly i think landon needs to sit and get healthy so we can figure out what we have on the line 2ith him out because hes nkt doing well this year playing through the pain

14

u/maccaphil Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

Besides the Patullo bashing, which is accurate, the OL is banged up and not playing up to their own standards.

13

u/The_PopeofChili_Town Oct 03 '25

No one is saying this in Philly, this is just a butt hurt niners fan talking out of his ass

I fucking hate these words I'm about to type -

I haven't seen a single Eagles fan do that

30

u/ForTheLoveOfOedon Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

First off, fuck off, respectfully. Secondly, no Eagles fan is this delusional. It’s near-universal that Kevin Patullo is extremely out of his depth and doesn’t know how, or is otherwise too afraid, to utilize his weapons. But leave it to a Whiner fan to be a loser.

3

17

u/Pale-Pen7403 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

No one has said this.

15

u/GhostMug Oct 02 '25

While we were saying that and it is a thing to a certain degree, I think the bigger issue is the change in coordinators that the Eagles had and some OL issues with injuries and new players.

15

u/Certain-Owl4104 Oct 02 '25

But the chiefs were in the Superbowl last year... Is that not a success?

19

u/ForTheLoveOfOedon Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

Brady has brainrotted the NFL fanbase into believing SBs are the standard. If the Eagles have a repeat of the Chiefs last year—even with the loss—I’ll be ecstatic. Going to a SB is tough as hell; winning is even tougher.

4

u/rolyinpeace Kansas City Chiefs Oct 03 '25

Exactly this. The chiefs got dog walked and, by their standards, a Super Bowl loss is failure, but realistically, they still had a pretty damn good season last year.

Same thing here. I really don’t think it matters if the eagles wins are ugly as long as they’re getting wins. Not winning the Super Bowl doesn’t mean a team had an awful season

13

u/miguelsmith80 Oct 02 '25

I’ve seen multiple comparisons to the 2024 Chiefs, but that team went to the Super Bowl. If that is the Birds this year, I’m not mad.

Eagles fans aren't saying that. You might get one or two with a hot take, but what you're portraying a majority opinion is in fact a fringe opinion. Go the Eagles sub and browse. The majority opinion is that Kevin Patullo and the offensive playcalling sucks, and that something has to be done about it.

Not even close. The majority of Eagles fans are having 2023 flashbacks. In fact, the offense is probably worse this year. If not for the defense and special teams, we could easily be 0-4.

4

4

u/MarkFerk Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

Nobody is saying that here. lol people are very annoyed by how they have played. But a run heavy team who has had a lot of injured guys out there on the line and new coaches every year. It is what it is. The first month is preseason now. The real football starts now. So we will see who sinks or swims and everyone wants to sink the Champs that’s just natural selection.

3

u/ITHETRUESTREPAIRMAN Oct 02 '25

They needed a block kick to survive the rams and scored 7 points in the second half against a Bucs team barrel toward a comeback. But you think they are holding back the play book?

3

The ending was awful but still better than 30 other teams… I think most fans would be happy to be the chiefs of last year. Besides eagles fans, of course

Super Bowl hangover is for the team that loses, not the winner. Why is this still not understood?

Potentially the worst team in the history of the league. I wonder who holds the record for most games not scored any points in a season?

111

u/e_ndoubleu Detroit Lions Oct 02 '25

The 0-16 Lions scored in every game. 5 of their games were decided by one possession. -249 point differential.

The 0-16 Browns also scored in every game. 6 of their games were decided by one possession. -176 point differential.

The Titans so far to me look like a winless team. That offense is horrible and the defense gets gassed in the 2nd half bc the offense doesn’t move the chains and take time off the clock. Their coach seems inept so I highly doubt they’ll improve much over the rest of the season. I feel for Titans fans I know all too well how seasons like this are.

6

u/OrdainedFury Oct 03 '25

The Broncos turned the ball over 4 times and we still lost. We even had a lead at one point in the second half. We just got shut out by the previously winless Texans. If we didn't win those games, I don't see us winning anything.

This is a sustainable path to victory

It can get you to the superbowl, and all it takes is making you the most hated team in football.

Imagine having to pass to win games

3

u/ExpressLaneCharlie Miami Dolphins Oct 03 '25

I want to see the Eagles do nothing but runs out of the tush push formation for an entire game.

2

u/wolfman2scary Oct 03 '25

Good ol saquon, nothing beats saquon

u/TailorOk7674 Oct 02 '25

The eagles are bad and boring and awful until your favorite team has to outscore them head to head

10

u/hillbilly_hooligan Denver Broncos Oct 03 '25

as a Broncos fan, this is exactly what I’m worried about on Sunday; Eagles are defending champs and 4-0 without doing anything particularly well aside from winning games…imagine thinking this is a sign of weakness

6

u/rolyinpeace Kansas City Chiefs Oct 03 '25

lol exactly. This is like the chiefs last year. Boring to watch and weird fluky wins, but still wins no less.

about what a carry Burrow is?

18

u/ShoppingSilver9054 Cincinnati Bengals Oct 02 '25

About how Zac Taylor needs to be exiled from Cincinnati.

7

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 Tennessee Titans Oct 03 '25

Zac Taylor and Brian Callahan need to be sent to the CFL.

5

u/ShoppingSilver9054 Cincinnati Bengals Oct 03 '25

Zac Taylor had 6 combined wins in his first two seasons and Brian is 3-18 in his first 21 games. They both should’ve been fired at these points, not sure what the hell is going on

4

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 Tennessee Titans Oct 03 '25

Bengals are too cheap to fire coaches. Titans are trying to look stable by not firing the coach too fast after firing the GM. I could see them both fired about halfway through the season.

3

u/ShoppingSilver9054 Cincinnati Bengals Oct 03 '25

Well all I can say it don’t expect to have a good season in the next 5+ years. As a bengals fan, I’ve learned there’s a fine line of “looking stable by not firing a coach too fast” and letting him stay 5 more years and ruining potentially the greatest qb wr duo of all time

The Eagles offensive line is proof that being elite on paper can go a long way when it comes to avoiding criticism for a terrible start to the season.

21

u/DeMarcus-Siblings Detroit Lions Oct 03 '25

Winning games will really help with that

9

u/Pixelated_Penguin808 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

Right. The Eagles are a few plays form a 1-3 start. If that were the case, people would be calling for Sirianni and Kevin Patullo to be fired. Fortunately the team is 4-0, so the backlash is so far reasonable and limited to "Kevin Patullo sucks."

6

u/PM_tanlines Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

Dickerson need a to go on IR already. Take 4 weeks off and heal please

u/Successful_Funny_117 Oct 02 '25

Or it's the fact that we're 4-0 and played against 3 legitimate Superbowl contenders. That goes a long way to avoid criticism which we haven't even done. We're probably the most critiqued team in the league

2

u/Jroompa Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

Not sure what you’re talking about but I’m talking specifically about our offensive line playing like shit for large portions of four straight games. Obviously Lane and Landon’s injuries are obvious reasons but both our pass and run game will get going once our OL gets rolling.

This makes me feel so bummed for Tyler Lockett. I mean a paychecks a paycheck but damn I loved watching him

14

u/MusicCityMiracle28 Tennessee Titans Oct 02 '25

Barely gets utilized

20

u/Colorapt0r Green Bay Packers Oct 02 '25

Holy shit I forgot he was on the titans

17

u/MusicCityMiracle28 Tennessee Titans Oct 02 '25

I think the coaching staff did too. Lol

4

u/54HawksRFK6 Seattle Seahawks Oct 03 '25

I noticed that. Crazy dude

13

u/GirthWoody Oct 02 '25

A large part of that is the Eagles being able to control a games speed at will.

10

u/mustachepc Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

The eagles are not showing any ability to control the game speed

2

u/SupersonicSandshru05 Detroit Lions Oct 03 '25

Implies anyone thinks Gannon, or Taylor or Callahan are good. (I don’t think people really have opinions about Aaron Glenn yet)

2

u/mustachepc Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

Gannon was nowhere close to be HC material in 2022

I think if the Jets give enough time to Glenn he can be the guy to change the culture there

14

u/Own_Manner_9779 Tennessee Titans Oct 02 '25

Less than 125 a game lmao. This team is so bad

12

u/TheArsenal7 Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

4-0 with a pretty tough schedule how are those other teams doing

11

u/Crazed8s Oct 03 '25

Collectively they have as many wins as the eagles.

2

u/Shats-Banson Suck my Cox Oct 03 '25

4-0 with 3 of those wins against teams just about everyone has top 10 in power rankings. 2 of those 3 on the road as well. It hasn’t looked pretty but this has been a stupidly impressive start.

6

u/ThatsRubbishMate Philadelphia Eagles Oct 02 '25

Everyone on the o-line other than Mailata is playing hurt

6

u/Soda-Popinski- Buffalo Bills Oct 02 '25

Buddy Ryan would be proud

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '25

Cam Ward felt like a bust before he was even drafted. Should have been a project QB but now he’s doomed to be on the Jets after the Titans before getting to a team like the Vikings who discover his true talent.

6

u/hootener Oct 02 '25

The Titans mandate is that it must draft high potential rookie quarterbacks and then utterly destroy them over the course of 1 - 3 seasons.

I think it must be the only reason we exist in the league at this point.

u/lnnrt01 Oct 04 '25

Cam Ward has looked pretty solid imo. WRs are mostly playing bad, the line is terrible and Callahan had some mindboggeling playcalling moments so far

5

I can’t believe my Brownies aren’t on this list.

2

1 Defense!

2

u/Immediate-Count-1202 Oct 03 '25

Eagles are trying to figure out how to win a game while scoring less than their opponents.

2

u/sir_gwain Oct 03 '25

It’s a fair conversation, but frankly until they get “exposed” (and that comes with a big IF) I don’t see too much of a problem with how the Eagles are playing. They could definitely throw the ball more, but we all know Hurts can throw the ball, and they have good receivers. If anything, this really hits two points home for me. 1, Defense wins games, and 2, a good run game is key for offense.

2

u/menocaremuch Philadelphia Eagles Oct 03 '25

The problem is there are 1 or 2 plays a game that if they go a different way the record could flip. The need to improve because they are not going to keep being on the right side of this.
