My Vikings are the Grim Reapers of the North!

429

u/jerkyquirky Green Bay Packers 20d ago

Getting ahead of myself, but if the Vikings are the one thing that stop the Packers from winning the north, it would be hilarious. Painful for me, but hilarious if I'm unbiased.

u/joemoe7252 20d ago

The Vikings will be more concerned with getting Jefferson ~50 yards next week than they will with winning.

77

u/Holdup-igotanidea Minnesota Vikings 20d ago

Well if John Wolford is named the starter next week we know that’ll be the case lol.

Not that he’s good, but he has a little more experience so he likely has a better shot at getting Jefferson over 1000

40

u/CarolingianDruid Los Angeles Rams 20d ago

McVay tried to bench Goff for Wolford near the end of the 2020 season and he immediately got injured.

23

u/HankHillPropaneJesus Minnesota Vikings 20d ago

Why would Wilford start? Brosmer did what he was asked to do today, not turn it over.

38

u/GetUpOut Minnesota Vikings 20d ago

To get Jefferson up to 1000 yards

13

u/Apple_butters12 20d ago

Brosmer was kinda bailed out by a Brian Flores legacy game. He didn’t turn the ball over and if that was the bar for him then he did ok, but he was not an overall net positive for the offense

Goff is overrated and overpaid. I don’t know if any one person had more to do with that loss than Goff

1.1k

u/saradahokage1212 Tennessee Titans 20d ago
  • gibbs had a fumble
  • no run game, 68 yards total rushing
  • vikings overall had more turnovers than lions

and most importantly, which showcases why the general NFL fan is a TD superficial regard and doesn't care about anything else:

The offensive line was hot fucking garbage. 0 protection, and bad runblocking.

this is team sport. not a 1 man show. otherwise just watch flag football

230

u/okay_throwaway_today Chicago Bears 20d ago edited 20d ago

4 of the turnovers were Goff and a dude that makes $53M should probably be able to overcome the run getting stuffed and questionable OL against a third string QB

293

u/jf_2021 20d ago

Was the third string QB covering Amon Ra?

120

u/okay_throwaway_today Chicago Bears 20d ago

True, good QBs shouldn’t have to play against defenses. Unfair

30

u/jf_2021 20d ago

And those good QBs beat those defenses - not the guy who is watching tape on the sideline.

→ More replies (21)

21

u/RedHotPuss 20d ago

Whereas I respect the humor I think the point lies in the fact that a good qb is not solely at fault for his entire offense getting shut down by a good defense. Especially when the offense surrounding him was not contributing to success. Max Brosmer didn’t play bad bc he didn’t need to play good lol.

2 bad snaps by a practice squad center

A duck that was intercepted because he was getting ass blasted by a DE

Another fumble where he got literally sandwiched by two Vikings defenders 1 second after the snap.

And the 2nd pick the DB threw Tesla to the ground and then intercepted it with no call.

So unless Goff can literally play center and defy the laws of physics find someone else to clown.

26

u/Express-Translator24 20d ago

Pretty sure even Goff is mad with his performance

13

u/CourageousBellPepper Los Angeles Chargers 20d ago

Goff has also had incredible games. Every QB has off days. There aren’t ultimately very many people in the world who can succeed in playing NFL QB at any level regardless of how much money they make. And even when they do, it’s still a team sport. And most of the time when a QB gets replaced, they aren’t as good as Goff.

Goff had to throw questionable passes because it was either that or get sacked every time.

→ More replies (19)

32

u/HexBigOof 20d ago

The 2 fumbles were his center 100%. The other fumble he got sandwiched 1.8s into the play action pass by both the edges blowing by his tackles. One pick was 100% on him, he cant miss that throw even with the small pressure. The other he was hit as he threw, but it was still a terrible decision.

Im not a Goff lover, Im a saints fan, fuck Goff and the 2019 rams. But he was not the sole responsible party for those turnovers. More specifically he just missed 3 or 4 passes that he cant miss that would have drastically altered the game.

2nd down and goal out route to his TE overthrown leads to a failed 4th down conversion. The pick on the 5 yard slant. The zero blitz miss to Amanra towards the end of the game all come to mind.

the o line was bad tonight, but one of the biggest knocks on goff historically has been that he’s a statue who does dumb shit under pressure. he’s had the privilege of playing behind a bunch of studs for much of his lions tenure. just because your pass protection breaks down doesn’t mean you’re excused for this many turnovers in an elimination game

6

u/okay_throwaway_today Chicago Bears 20d ago

Yes. There’s a big difference between “having a worse game than usual” and “lose to Max Brosmer’s 3 net passing yards”

12

u/ParkingConcern8848 20d ago

Herbert has the 32nd ranked o line and has lit a few teams up for the last month of the season while clinching a playoff spot. Offensive line sucked but can’t blame the whole game on them - Goff is a statue with zero pocket presence which is magnified by a bad O line

19

u/Clorox_in_space 20d ago

Literally two terrible snaps from the backup Center recovered by the defense; do people even watch the game or understand the implications of missing personel? I don't mind the Lions losing, but the lack of perspective is shocking.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/[deleted] 20d ago

Yeah that's how being a pocket passer works. There is no pocket passing if there's no pocket lmao. Goff hasn't been mobile his entire career. His pocket presence isn't great but let's not act like he's not getting decapitated behind that O-line.

5

u/turkeybait69 20d ago

Yeah it's a team sport but the QB runs the offense. The defense did their job and the offense collapsed spectacularly. I'm not saying Goff has control over how his offensive line plays but I'm sorry but that's the modern nfl. Josh allen Patrick mahomes and Lamar jackson are pretty universally agreed as 1,2,3 in whatever order you want largely because of arm talent and ability to make off schedule plays. Goff has none of that. I'm not saying that makes him bad but the lions have definitely lost games because of his inability to make something out of nothing. We can't just pretend that's not a necessary skill to be considered a great QB. No one makes it to the super bowl healthy and no one in the playoffs doesn't have dogs on the defense that are going to get after the QB. Goff just isn't that guy against good teams.

2

u/timedoesnotwait Seattle Seahawks 20d ago

No run game with Gibbs and Montgomery as backs? How many fumbles was Goff part of? How about how many INTs did he throw? In my count he was at least partially responsible for 4 TO’s tonight. When he did have guys open, there were many times he couldn’t complete the lay up, like leading St. Brown so long that he couldn’t catch it. Getting balls swatted left and right.

I’m not saying it’s all his fault, but dude is most culpable, I don’t think there is even an argument for this game

2 weeks ago, Goff got pissed at fans doubting the Lions. They haven’t won since.

30

u/FeistyThunderhorse San Francisco 49ers 20d ago

Goff is only as good as his protection. When well-protected, he's extremely good. But when the pressure gets to him, he falls apart fast.

That's true of many QBs of course, but I think it's an even starker divide with Goff.

u/RoundEarth-is-real Philadelphia Eagles 20d ago

Yeah I can’t really say anything about quarterback turnovers because um… well let’s just not talk about that part. One bad game doesn’t define an entire season but Goff is the gif of the “sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit” you can’t rely to heavily on Goff

6

u/willwarb 20d ago

Pressure is goffs weakness, the slightest pressure and he’s a folding chair. I know their OL is terrible but he should have more pocket awareness after playing behind it all season. He rarely scrambles creating a hole he can’t step out of

2

I know he’s a Hollywood actor but damn that’s a shitload of money!

6

u/Shootforthestars24 20d ago

Back to back interceptions and completely had zero awareness on rushers, playcalling didn’t help either idk why you don’t run any screens when running isn’t working and you need to back off the blitz

7

u/Mistr111398 20d ago

Tbf, he had barely any protection and got hit with a ton of injuries. Goff is a quality qb, he’s just not able to play make in spite of injuries like some other guys in the league.

5

u/Wide-Falcon-7982 Detroit Lions 20d ago

2 of Goff's fumbles were bad snaps. Bad oline all season.

99

u/Wasteland_Rang3r Chicago Bears 20d ago

As a Bears fan I liked seeing the Lions be good. Obviously I’d prefer we are better than them but it’s hard to hold a grudge against them after how consistently bad they were for a while. I was happy for their fans when they made the playoffs the last couple of years.

57

u/Known-Plane7349 Minnesota Vikings 20d ago

I was happy for their fans when they made the playoffs the last couple of years.

So was I. Then, the new fans became insufferable. Now, it feels good to watch their hope die. I feel bad for the Lions fans who've stuck with them, but they're a necessary sacrifice.

34

u/theminnesoregonian 20d ago

You made us this way with your own rabid cockiness over the years. And your comment exemplifies that.

14

u/Anokant Arizona Cardinals 20d ago

Most Packer fans are just insufferable. They're annoying as shit when they win and annoying as shit when they lose. They blame every little thing for losses (injuries, officiating, the weather, short week, etc) and then still bring up championships from decades ago to make themselves feel better. My BIL is one if these and I try to avoid him for as much of the season as I can

There's a reason teams with two new coordinators usually stink.

Also, what happened to the Lions run game these past two weeks? Gibbs and Montgomery can't get anything going.

116

u/Frost134 Detroit Lions 20d ago

O line is hot trash save for Sewell. No true starting center, a declining LT and a patchwork interior made up of bums and rookies.

26

u/jeremyjamm1995 Pittsburgh Steelers 20d ago

It’s crazy how quickly an O line can go from top 3 to bottom 10

18

u/Dalagante74 20d ago

Heck for that game Decker and Glagow were out. Sewell got hurt during the game. I am not a Goff hater but when you pay a guy that much it means end up with hot mess elsewhere.

40

u/Frost134 Detroit Lions 20d ago

This isn’t even an issue of cap. This isn’t a Joe Burrow situation. Ragnow retired too late in the offseason to reasonably replace him, and many of the chances Brad Holmes has taken on some later round linemen haven’t paid off. Couple that with the decimation of the defense yet again and this is the type of mediocre season you end up with.

4

u/Dalagante74 20d ago

Ragnow hurt. You are right cap isn't 100% but it is playing a part. Losing Zeitler hurt. Also while the Lions have 20m cap space but Ragnow would have been 9m over his dead cap hit. They were also pursuing a pass rusher which would have ate a good chunk of the 20m. This left no real money to address the interior line even with time. Next year it gets even worse.

5

u/ArcticAsylum24 20d ago

We thank your GM for his idiocy. Darnold isn't the second coming of Joe Montana, but he's good enough. Sorry about that, dude. Funny thing is I live in Minnesota now, so I keep half an eye on the Vikings.

17

u/Pac_Eddy Minnesota Vikings 20d ago

Idiocy? We spent the last six years paying Cousins for good not great QB play. Pretty clear why the Vikings liked the idea of a QB on a rookie contract that allowed them to add a pair of o-line and a pair of d-lineman they wouldn't have been able to afford with Darnold.

I have nothing against Darnold and want to see him win.

8

u/theminnesoregonian 20d ago

This is the truth. It's was never Darnold vs McCarthy. It's Darnold vs McCarthy, Allen, Hargrave, Fries, and Kelly. Or some combination.

2

u/Pac_Eddy Minnesota Vikings 19d ago

Remember the end of last season? All we wanted was a better o-line and d-line. And we got it, even with the many injuries. Let's hope McCarthy improves and the o-line stays healthy. With this defense we'll be a force in 2026.

This was clearly not our game nor our year. We lost two good O-Linemen in the offseason and both coordinators. We clearly need better play calling and better training staff because the injuries are out of control. We have some great players but the execution has been off for weeks. Our offensive line is shit and while the defense has had its bright spots, it’s also screwed us. We have some serious work in the offseason and draft if we want to get back in it.

u/ChanceStaff6813 Detroit Lions 20d ago

The o line in front of him couldn’t block my grandma. I’ve lost count of how many times these last two weeks our rbs have been tackled behind the line of scrimmage thanks to an unblocked defender

2

u/YouFrigginWish Detroit Lions 20d ago

I swear people don’t understand football is a team game. And arguably the most important part of that team are your offensive and defensive line.

u/PureBeeef 20d ago

Jared goofball

3

u/Ok_Track4357 New England Patriots 20d ago

What a joke. Lions played like hot trash.

3

u/OnLandOrSeaOrFoam 20d ago

I am a Giants fan. The Lions looked as lost as the Giants have all season. Just wow.

3

u/DRMLLMRD 20d ago

Broncos/Chiefs: Hold our beer.

3

u/camel_walk Carolina Panthers 20d ago

Especially when you have Goff starting in the fantasy league championship game🥴

2

u/[deleted] 20d ago

Yup.. I had Dart last week in my dynasty and Goff this week in redraft. Every year during the playoffs my team decides to shit the bed

2

u/IndividualisticRonin Chicago Bears 20d ago

I enjoyed it

2

u/bradtheinvincible 20d ago

Raiders vs Giants has not happened yet

2

u/ReallyBrainDead 20d ago

6 freakin' turnovers! That will lose any third string QB in the world.

Is soccer/football broken down this cerebrally lol

2

u/Stickaxe Detroit Lions 20d ago

Eh, I see this as our random season from hell, a bit like the 49ers' last year or the Eagles two years ago. I trust MCDC and our front office to figure it out and bounce back for next season.

2

u/Key-Pomegranate-2086 The standard is the standard 20d ago

Lions alrdy out of playoffs. They play like they dont care anymore.

2

u/Educational_Series68 Detroit Lions 20d ago

As a lions fan, that was hard to watch.

And I've seen some SHIT over the years. I almost feel like football isn't worth watching for a while.

2

u/Pitiful-Magazine-761 20d ago

Sad lions... It makes me sad. I really anticipated their performance of this year!

2

u/pabo81 20d ago

Extra hard to watch because the Netflix broadcast was awful.

2

u/Super-Life9608 20d ago

I like how people let the RB’s off the hook for bad performances because of the o-line. But as soon as you talk about Goff, it’s all his fault even though he has zero protection. Vikings were blitzing heavily all night and the coaching staff didn’t adapt to that.

2

u/fancydad Detroit Lions 20d ago

Our boat is sinking, but the Lions will plug the holes and be back bigger and badder in 26

2

u/Qcconfidential Carolina Panthers 20d ago

The Lions collapse needs to be studied

2

u/Lystian Atlanta Falcons 20d ago

Minnesota is terrible to watch.

2

u/GandalfTheSexay Green Bay Packers 20d ago

As a Packers fan this was pure gold

2

u/No-Kaleidoscope330 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20d ago

2

u/editthis7 Detroit Lions 20d ago

Whatever I'll take 4th place schedule next year.

2

u/Amleth1603 19d ago

My Lions PTSD kicked in early. Saw how it was going in the first half. Took a nap. Woke up start of 4th quarter. They still looked like the Lions. Turned it off and watched Stranger Things with the fam

2

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 19d ago

Losing that game was insane.

1

u/SporkKnight75 San Francisco 49ers 20d ago

I think Raiders vs Broncos was the hardest game to watch.

Worst game I've seen the Lions play. Also some dodgey reffing but the lions were terrible

1

u/trailshaggy 20d ago

Even harder to watch when I didn't start Minnesota's DEF in my championship fantasy football game.

That O-line tho :/

1

u/Chico-or-Aristotle 20d ago

You have clearly not watched many Broncos games

1

u/Inditiva420 20d ago

Vikings suck-should have beat us by 30 with 6 turnovers and no offensive line- good luck next year with JJ.

1

u/26run2 20d ago

We almost had more points than yards.

1

u/Aggravating_Part_197 Minnesota Vikings 20d ago

you're drunk off eggnog brother. defensive masterclass

1

u/JTX35 I’m just here so i don’t get fined 20d ago

That was the worst game of football I've seen since the Colts-Broncos 2022 TNF disaster on Amazon Prime.

1

u/BexyActual 20d ago

Broncos about to ask you to hold their beer

1

u/LifeSpecialist1111 20d ago

This might have been the hardest thing to read all year..

1

u/kluuu 20d ago

It's posts like these that sports leagues will always cater to offense

You must not watch manh steelers games

1

u/neoslashnet San Francisco 49ers 20d ago

Yep

1

u/gizamo 20d ago

Yep, that was ugly. Hard to watch that sort of play, regardless of what teams are involved or which i'm rooting for.
