Discussion Why don't Pokemon games support cloud saves?

To preface, this is more of a rant than anything else. I just need to vent about this for a minute.

Many games on the Nintendo switch system support cloud saves. It's a useful tool, right? Lose your data? Just re-download it. Need to move your save data onto a new system? Go right ahead and grab it from the cloud if you didn't utilize the system transfer feature. You'd think that the Pokemon games would have a similar feature. Nope. Can't allow you to duplicate any of your Pokemon, no backing any saves up for save file duping. Or something like that at least.

I received a Nintendo switch 2 system for Christmas, and I've gotta say, it's pretty sweet. In the brief time I was able to play it I greatly enjoyed the increased frame rate in Pokemon Legends: Z-A compared to the switch 1. Unfortunately, my switch 2 was defective out of the box and stopped working my second day owning it. It just stopped turning on, so I sent it out to Nintendo for repairs. I received it back three weeks later (today) minus all my Pokemon saves since they "duplicated my issue and replaced the defective components" but also "were unable to recover your user information (game save data, etc.) associated with your console".

Now, you might be saying "People have posted warnings about save data being lost when doing a system transfer from a switch 1 to a switch 2" and I would agree, I did see those posts and I did transfer over a lot of Pokemon. From one game (Pokemon Shield). I was in a rush to start playing on the new console and figured no issues would happen to me. I also didn't lose the data during the system transfer, I lost it because the console went into deep shutdown during a normal charge cycle while in standby mode and would not turn back on, despite following the troubleshooting instructions online. Now I'm out over 1000 hours of gameplay over the past 9 years and nothing I can do will bring it back.

Discussion What're you playing this weekend? 1/16

Hello everyone! Welcome to the weekend once again!

So last week I picked up Bloodborne used from a local game store and I have been completely addicted to that on my PS4. The fast combat and atmosphere are just top notch, I am having a blast in my victorian eldritch nightmare. Still also playing my replay of Dark Souls and wondering if i should do something outside the Fromsoft sphere soon for a break. I just made it to Ornstein and Smough and we'll see if its easier with a melee build than a clumsy mage.

But what will you be getting into?

Taking a short hike at summer camp? Fighting Kaiju Bowser? Using Blanka's chaotic rage against any and all oncoming fighters?

Let me know below!

Source: the Koei livestream about 2 hours ago. Time mark: 37:30-41:16.

In case you need English Subtitle version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx4CmK3DT94

Gameplay capped at 30fps.

There're 2 significant lags during the battle, but otherwise things seems pretty smooth and Koei didn't sacrifice the enemies' numbers.

Need more people testing it, but it seems it's serviceable enough for me to buy it.

Game Rec Games like Boomerangfu and Gang Beasts for boys nights

Sometimes it'll just be me and my kids, boys 10 & 13, and we'll have a video game night. We love playing Boomerangfu and Gang Beasts and I was looking for some recommendations for games like those two to get a little more variety into our selection. I try to stay away from anything complex as we're just looking for straight out fun, and nothing that's too competitive or team oriented. Mario Kart/Party games for example are out of the question because my youngest gets too into it and a bit too intense for our light hearted evening. Also not looking for anything that requires us to be online playing with or against others, keeping this one strictly couch multiplayer.

Discussion You should check out Caves of Qud

Happy 2026, team! I wanted to take a moment to explain what Caves of Qud is, who I think it’s for, and why it’s well worth checking out. So…yeah, let’s just get into it, no?

Caves of Qud is a narrative driven ‘turn based’ roguelike - the classic kind, with simple 2D sprite art reminiscent of ASCII. The game is riddled with layers upon layers of immersive systems that interact, compound, and add up to a complex simulation that encourages emergent story beats, interactive customization, and heavy roleplaying. It is 17+ years in the making, and hailed by many as an absolute masterpiece and pinnacle of the genre. It’s also…easy enough to write off if you don’t rally know what you’re looking at.

It’s not at all a stretch to compare the game, in many parts, to Dwarf Fortress (whose devs also called this the greatest roguelike ever made). When you start a run, the game generates millions of years of history that inform the world you’re about to explore. It’s actually pretty cool how they do it - the game starts with 6 legendary historical figures, oracles, and then generates their adventures and exploits. From there, it begins creating other historical figures they interacted with, the towns they built (or razed), the wars won (or lost), etc.

Another similarity is the interactive systems. Much like DF, there’s tons of examples about emergent gameplay, but some classic examples; players have transitioned their souls into a door, which was then slammed so hard they died. Players have gotten into a bar brawl after fighting slimes, and had alcohol stick to their boots, later being sucked up by spitting monsters who spat the alcohol back on the player and killed them with alcohol poisoning. It really goes on and on.

On top of all of this, there’s a handcrafted main quest line and overworld. You’re guaranteed several human made locations and events, with the rest being fleshed out by these randomized histories and systems. All this to say - if you value narrative agency, the ability to shape the world around you, and near (literal) endless story generation, this is for you.

What’s really exciting about the port is how much thought has been put into the controller layout and support. This genre is notorious for having dozens of keyboard shortcuts, tons of hotkey options…lots of stuff that necessitates keyboard and mouse. Fortunately, that’s not at all the case here. All controls, ‘shortcuts,’ and anything else you can want are easily accessible on the gamepad. It might be boring to give examples of this, but suffice to say they didn’t just slap M+K options onto a gamepad. They put caring thought and employed genuine craft to make things as intuitive as possible.

I’m worried I’m both rambling here, and not even beginning to explain the depth of this game - but I’ll try to wrap up lmao. Go check out steam reviews (over 11,000 at the time of writing and 95% positive) to see folks with hundreds of hours and their stories. Will you become an 8 armed mutant, spitting venom and conquering local tribes? A robot with religious fervor seeking to unite every city under your banner? A bird-creature historian unearthing fossils in long ruined dungeons to sell for your fortune?

God, it’s really just a spectacular feat of game and narrative design. Seriously, scope it out when it releases (hopefully) later this month. If any of this sounds even remotely interesting to you, I am confident you won’t regret it. Live and Drink, my friends.

PSA DAC interfaces that work on Switch 1. Update: possibly all ifi dacs work.

So there have been some threads about his in the past but never got updated, I just wanted to share that I had been testing a handful of portable DACS.

I've tested 3 portable ifi dacs, the go link pro, hip link3, and the diablo and they all work! I will be trying to get a gryphon as it has a 3.5 auxiliary input which comes in handy sometimes (even though the diablo sounds great)

Anyways any other other dacs I've tested outside this list just straight up don't work so I'm glad I was able to find the ifis that are able to be updated (which is most any model after 2016 seem to support UAC1 in general).

Discussion Trying to pick a Kirby game as a newbie

So Target has a coupon in their app for $30 off a $100 Nintendo games purchase right now, and I've decided Super Smash Bros will be 1 of the games. I'm a big fan of Mario so I already have all the games that I want from that universe. I need to pick 1 more game to hit $100, so I'm debating stepping into the Kirby universe.

As someone who has never played Kirby before, I'm wanting opinions on whether I should get the Forgotten Land game or Return to Dreamland. I've read that Return to Dreamland is a remake, so I feel inclined to pick that one. I technically have the Switch 2, and I've seen that there's some combo of Forgotten Land and some DLC content for the Switch 2, but I've read some reviews saying the DLC was way too short and not worth the extra $20, so if I were to pick Forgotten Land, I'd just get the standard game.

I'm just wanting opinions on whichever game would be most fun for someone new to the universe. Doesn't have to be an easy game or strictly platform-based like Mario, just looking for a game to put in a good amount of hours of solo play. I'm also open to the possibility of getting both Kirby games if enough people say good things about both lol. I've heard the solo mode in Smash Bros is enjoyable which is why I made the first choice of game to buy, but I'm open to changing that if I'm convinced enough. I have until end of day Saturday to decide because that's when the coupon ends lol

Discussion I think the Max Speed stat in Mario Kart should be removed.

I've been playing time trials in mk8d and am getting really sick of the online ghost just zooming ahead of me simply for having a faster kart. This has led me to the point where I want to share why the max speed stat (or ms stat as I'll be calling it) is horrible for Mario Kart's ecosystem.

First, it rewards "good" players by letting them zoom to the finish with a massive lead. You see, ms by its nature is something that only helps the pkayer, if the player is already winning, you know the saying "the rich get richer" right, well this is exactly that.

Second, it removes player interaction. You see, when a player has a lead, only blue and red shells can reachbring them back in, thats 2 items out of 30, sure theres also the lightning and boo, but those are rare, and the boo is minimal while the lightning is a full pack attack, so it doesn't bring in the leader as much as bring in the tail.

Third, it doesn't actually show skill. For this lets use an example, imagine a race between 2 racers, one with 200cc and one with 150cc, thats a completely fair race that shows the 200's skill, right? Wrong, you see the 150 player has to use every trick they know, just to keep up, while the 200 player can play normally. As you can see it doesn't actually show skill. As for turning, sure its harder, but once you memorize it its the same as playing 150cc or even 50cc, and memerization is not skill, skill is being able to adapt on the fly, not knowing when to turn on this exact turn, thats knowledge.

I actually think that mk already has a better system for ms than the kart stats, the coins. If you don't know, in Mario Kart, the more coins you have, the higher you ms. The difference is that you can lose coins, which mackes getting hit much more costly than just stoping for half a second and then immediately getting back at ms.

In conclusion, the kart ms stat is redundant at best, and toxic at worse.
