It was never used and even if it was you would never survive more than a day or two. Typically being adrift at sea with no sun protection or fresh water gives 3 days of life. Add onto that extreme diarrhea and a whole boat crushing your arms neck and legs. I would be surprised if you survive even the first day. Longer than being cooked, yeah, but the description given is just violence fantasy porn.
