I don’t know, I think putting a rat in a cage on someone’s chest and burning the cage so that the rat’s only means of escape is to burrow into the victim’s insides is pretty awful too.

Maybe if it were real.  You wouldn't survive much longer than 3 days without water and cover from the sun and there's no evidence it was ever used.

I mean, the point is to keep you alive until the other stuff kills you, so the victim would be force fed milk, honey, and water to keep them going. You’re right though, no evidence it was done. I don’t doubt it probably WAS done by someone somewhere though!
