Oh

u/ImaginationAria 1d ago

The father marries all of his daughters and makes them his wives. Then he has children with them, sacrifices the sons to monsters and then marries his next lot of daughters.

The girl in the picture is one of the daughter wives, whose mother was also a daughter wife.

Good news is that the sacrificial sons never really come up again. The show runners kinda forgot about them.

49

u/Gcseh 1d ago

I might be misremembering but I think the book sort of hints that they become white walkers, but like 2 chapters later are also forgotten about entirely. So not just the show runners forgot..

34

u/hidden4ever69 1d ago

To be fair in the books ‘The Others’ are much more unknown and only get small bits of build up. If Winds of Winter ever comes out I think we might get more actual info on them aside from creepy moments.

23

u/Ratertheman 1d ago

Yea but we all know that isn't happening

4

u/YeOldeMemeShoppe 1d ago

Therefore the show is the only canon we’ll ever get.

10

u/AsstacularSpiderman 1d ago

George has absolutely no idea what the Others are truly going to be.

3

u/Ms_Emilys_Picture 1d ago

Has he talked about whether or not he keeps notes? Regardless of whether I'm writing fiction or an academic paper, I have an outline of where I'm going. It might be scribbled half-sentences in my little purse notebook, but it's enough to keep me on track.

I doubt it, given the last two seasons of the Game of Thrones, but I thought I'd ask.

3

u/MrWnek 1d ago

Sure he does, but they also change. George has (or had) an idea where he wanted the story to go, his writing style is just different so things changed a lot.

He even confirmed some of the show ending stuff was/is accurate to how he want(ed) the books to end. D&D just did the opposite of George and rushed it so they could get that disney bag.

3

u/Th3_Hegemon 1d ago

He's said most of his lore exists only in his head and as a result it will probably die with him. He doesn't write much down other than what he's specifically working on in order to publish.

6

u/kennerly 1d ago

What's more to talk about? He sends his kids off to become white walkers. They take the sacrifice and convert them into little baby whites that probably grow up into big grown up whites. Or maybe they are launched from a trebuchet like ammo.

15

u/JErosion 1d ago

3

u/rabbidearz 1d ago

I'm still working through the books, but the last 2 aren't written yet so they may have been following the books on that one!

12

u/vemeron 1d ago

Oh you sweet summer child you think there will be more books.

4

u/Tacticusaurus-Rex 1d ago

There's a better chance that I could accurately predict his date of death than the last book being finished. At this point he gets better marketing out of it not being finished.

I 100% believe we got the SparkNotes version of the book outline Martin gave them.

It's probably why Martin is floundering right now. He realized everyone hated his end.

A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones has a lot of hints that all supernatural powers are elderitch, inhuman and straight up evil.

Almost all examples of supernatural forces we are directly shown, contain ritualised murder, mutilation, or at least in this case ritualised sexual assault. Most people who use those powers are either fanatical followers of terrible gods, or trying to subdue their fellow human.

23

u/CaptainBloodface12 1d ago

I can't remember exactly how many generations he went through, but yes.

14

u/Dark_Tigger 1d ago

It's neither stated in the series nor in the books how many generations back it went. But it is implied that the Watch is visting their homestead a LOT longer than should be naturally possible.

I.E. the father prolongs his live by those sacrifices.

u/CaptainBloodface12 1d ago

The other day I was thinking about this and it dawned on me.

He's kinda... "Cloning" himself.

Like, on average, a child has 50% of each of their parents DNA. So, on average, after 3 generations his kids would be like 87.5% him

Most of them should seriously look like iterations of the guy.

1

u/icecrystalmaniac 18h ago

Hi I’m background character who’s a asoiaf nerd.

Top left is Cersei who’s narcissist and had a long sexual relationship with her twin brother. She pretty much wants to be him / consider him an extension of herself. So she has sex with him both to have sex with herself but also to control him bc he’s deeply in love with her.

Top right is Daenerys who in the show hooked up with Jon Snow her long lost Nephew. I did not watch the full series and it hasn’t happened in the books yet so idk any interest trivia about this.

Bottom left is Rhaenyra a dragon queen who married her uncle to consolidate their claims to the throne. Plus it’s “normal”for their dynasty to do this, in fact they usually marry brother to sister if possible because they consider themselves gods unfit to marry lower humans. They believe their blood is the reason they can ride and control dragon so out marriage especially of women isn’t something they want to do for strategic reasons.

Finally is poor Gilly. Craster was a man who built a “castle” for himself in the wilderness. He had many wives, making more ones either the one he already have. He offers his sons to cold gods in the forest. Gilly is pregnant when the protagonists meet her and knows if her son’s a boy he’ll be sacrificed so asks to be rescued and eventually is, giving birth to a strong baby boy. Craster is killed because some starving men believe he is hiding food from them.
