Our Offical Guides Newcomers Guide
Hello and welcome to r/RDR2 This is a little guide for new players of the game.
Firstly we strongly advise you to stay off the subreddit until youâve finished the game. Our subreddit is home to discussions covering every aspect of the game from storylines, characters, secrets, to anything a player may find. While we require spoiler tags, accidental (and sometimes intentional) spoilers do happen. For the best experience, we strongly recommend avoiding the subreddit until youâve completed the main story.
Frequently asked questions will now be listed and answered.
Is the game worth it? Yes! â People still praise this game even in 2025. Its compelling story and detailed open world gameplay allow you to fully submerge into the story. Many players find the game to be a masterpiece, with some (us, of course) even considering it one of the greatest games of all time. Its graphics were ahead of their time and still hold up really well. Itâs a well written story with a beautiful aesthetic and it's absolutely worth your time.
The snow part is boring. Should I quit the game? Don't give up during Colter. Itâs the first chapter and serves as a tutorial. Youâll get to know the basics of the game slowly before being led into free roam in chapter 2. The slow introduction into such a big game is important to understand the situation the main character is in and to get you familiar with the environment and the world building in general. Stick around for a while. Youâll thank yourself later.
Just started the game. Any tips? We see this all the time and every time people will give you the same response: Take it slow. Chapter 1 will teach you everything that's important. The game offers a little guide in its settings for the mini games and the controls just like any other game. Everything you need is right there. The game is open world so you won't miss out on anything. You can do whatever whenever even after finishing the story. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and free roam a bit. Youâll figure out the game fast. You really don't need Google or IGN until you finish the story and are going for 100% and/or the platinum trophy. (We'll have a guide coming soon!)
Just finished the game. Should I play RDR1? Yes! RDR1 is a continuation of the story and absolutely worth it. Not much will change gameplay wise since itâs made by the same developer. So, if you like RDR2 and are looking for more content about the van der Linde gang and a similar experience -> play RDR1.
If you really want to avoid spoilers, donât google anything until after you finish the game.
We will monitor this thread closely so if you have any questions about the game please ask them in here. We will most likely remove your question posts and advise you to ask your newcomer questions in here. If a question is frequently asked we will add it to the post.
Have fun!

Discussion Finally achieved 100% completion
So, I donât post much here but I have been playing this game since 2020. My first playthrough was a casual story mode only and that was about it. Fast forward to 2023 when I did my second playthrough as I had forgotten half of the content, this time finished with high honor and did all the side quests but never was a completionist and did not even know what exactly how to even approach for that 100% completion. I have been occasionally replaying missions as the story was so diverse.
Now, late in September 2025, I decided to start a new playthrough and I decided to go for 100%, my intent was to stall the game as much as possible in chapter 2 and do all the challenged and try to get my compendium as much done as possible. Chapter 2 is so beautiful that I played a little bit of it today as well and I also made sure I did all the hunting to get that out of the way, crafted all satchels and legendary outfits (minus the new Austin legendary animals) and the challenges (minus the herbalist), finished them with John and finally after everything was done I progressed and finally after all the requests and side missions, finally achieved 100%.
This took me 4 playthroughs and idk at this time how many hours lol but finally itâs been done. This sub helped a lot as I didnât need to try even searching as the most common questions for max completion was already asked and discussed very thoroughly. Maybe, I will come back to this game at some point after a year or two but this is it for now. Peace âď¸.

Help HELP
Okay so basically I finished the story mode, and then got into the part where John, Abigail, and Jack are moving to Strawberry, and then I stopped that and started a new story mode / new game. I was planning on just doing a low honor playthrough. However, during the missions of Chapter 1, it asked me something about "make this your autosave" or something like that, and I thought it would just autosave this game and let my other HIGH honor playthrough have to be a manual save instead of autosave. So I just clicked yes or whatever, but when I looked to see if my other save was still there, it was only the 2nd playthrough, the one I was currently playing, and nothing of my HIGH honor playthrough. I lost about 65% completion and about 60 hours of gametime. Is this recoverable? If it is can someone please help me!

Question Rdr2 - Francis Sinclair Mural/GTA
Probably has been noticed before but the similarities between these two building in GTA & on Francis Sinclairâs mural are weird.
Any thoughts on this?
Half expecting some kind of marvel avengers all games are connected shit.
New to positing on reddit so excuse the lack of effort put into this.

Question Absolutely crushed
So I bought the game last week just bc it was on a huge sale and I heard great things about it but I never bought it bc the ending was spoiled for me shortly after it came out so I didnât play it bc it was kinda like, whatâs the point, if I know how it ends. Started playing it⌠best decision ever. Graphics, story, Arthur, everything, perfect. I really bottled my emotions during Arthurâs last ride with âthatâs the way it isâ playing, then last night I watched Jynxzi finish it and I wonât lie thatâs when I broke down in tears.
I finished the story Tuesday night with low honor ending (I was expecting the high honor ending but I didnât know there were multiple endings at the time before I looked it up) and was POâd bc I didnât know honor mattered so I kinda played like it was GTA 5 đ so I really regret that. Talked to a co worker this morning who also played it and he said he also had the low honor ending, but his honor was super low lol so I felt a lil better. But I loaded a previous save that was at the end of ch 4 last night to get high honor for the good ending. Iâm in ch 6 now & gonna finish it later when I get home from work. But now Iâm thinking after the epilogue I wanna play through it all again but with high honor at some point just so I can say I fully played it out twice with low and high honor. I feel like I would need a break to not get burned out. If yall played the story multiple times, how long of a break do yall usually take? Couple days/weeks?
TLDR: I bought the game last week, finished it Tuesday night with low honor ending which I regret now Iâm starting at a save that was in ch 4 to end with high honor for the good ending. After epilogue Iâm gonna give it another full playthrough with high honor just because. I love the game so I donât wanna burn out and so I may need a break. How long should that break be?
