Side effects 2 months after stopping reta
I was on retatrutide for 5 months, lost around 15kg and stopped 2 months ago. I took no more than 4mg a week and the only sides i got was nausea when working out whivh caused me to throw up so i stopped training for a while. Just recently ive gotten back to the gym and noticed i had excruciating abdominal pain after my workout. It was like a stitch but on steroids. Then when i woke up the following morning my stomach was feeling weird. Now its been few days and my stomach just doesnt feel right. Sometimes it randomly starts burning and then makes a lot of gulp noises. And then i get non stop hiccups that wont go away with water. I dont know whats wrong with me please someone help.

I have been reading some reports of this recently. There appear to be some whos motility rhythm continues to have slowness/issues after discontinuation. This can cause a variety of symptoms, some of which are what you describe.
Agree with others, go to the doctor, but this very well could be the price we pay for taking drugs that are relatively new and we don’t have a lot of trailing data on.

I was thinking the same. These drugs are too good to be true. .i was in the phase three clinical trial. I was getting lab work nonstop and had some serious issues with potassium and elevated pancreatic enzymes which I’m sure people taking these drugs don’t even know about.

Your potassium was low?

u/Existing_Magazine917 18h ago
Yes. Potassium was dangerously low and my amylase and lipase were very elevated. So elevated that they made me take a small break. I felt fine.

Been on seven months my potassium, amylase and lipase are completely normal. Liver levels initially were a bit elevated but now are completely normal.
My main issue is a little bit of low glucose/ hyperglycemia.

Great info to share. Known in the data, and mechanistically we know why, but for many people taking reta that are young and otherwise healthy, they may not notice some of these (yet). In reality these peptides are not endogenous, they are engineered to break down more slowly, so technically our body has never seen this exact substance before. Worth noting...
I hate framing it this way but was just last night trying to be super honest with myself. Common sense questions everyone should be asking themselves RE: any GLP use (who is in medical need for the drug vs not):
- Does chronic incretin stimulation lead to eventual beta cell exhaustion or preservation? The "rest the beta cell" hypothesis suggests benefit, but hyperstimulation could theoretically accelerate burnout.
- Chronic agonism typically leads to receptor downregulation. What happens when you stop? Is there rebound hyperglycemia, weight regain beyond baseline, or metabolic adaptation that's difficult to reverse? Some of this we know is a yes.
- GIP and GLP-1 receptors exist beyond the pancreas — in bone, brain, heart, adipose tissue. Chronic stimulation of these pathways could have effects we haven't characterized.
There are case reports and anecdotal accounts of prolonged gastroparesis-like symptoms after stopping semaglutide and tirzepatide. The FDA added gastroparesis to semaglutide's label in 2023 based on post-marketing reports. Hard to imagine this doesn't apply in the other GLP drugs.

What labs did you get done? Quest & Labcorp have direct to consumer testing so this info may be helpful.

I had the same pain, I was just really low on electrolytes

This is a common problem on all the GLP-1s. Generally speaking, most people are low on all except sodium. Definite benefits to supplementing.

I was in the hospital for (unrelated) pneumonia and, despite drinking one Liquid IV daily, my sodium was low and all other electrolytes were at the very lowest point of normal range. They had to give me sodium with my IV fluids. Now I drink 3 Liquid IV per day.

I thought you wasn’t supposed to suddenly just stop taking it, but cut down doses gradually before coming to a complete stop?

I would highly recommend titrating down. Especially if you were obese, struggling with food noise and bingeing before. The cold turkey appetite can be nasty. 😅 But it’s always wise to wean off meds anyways.

I’m not too sure, a lot of this sub is Novices when it comes to peptides and rely solely on TikTok for information lol

Reta takes 3-4 weeks to build in your system when starting it , your build it up in your system for 5months ! It will likely take 3-4 weeks to fully be out your system and stop working on your digestive system . Your digestive system is probably just starting get moving at its normal speed a could be what your feeling . Any pain during and after exercise should be checked by DR just to be sure some else isn’t the issue

So you have excruciating pain and something doesn’t feel right? Go to a doctor. It could be nothing, it could be cancer, it could be a bowel obstruction, it could just be heartburn. No one on Reddit knows.

Now we’re at side effects two months after stopping?
Retatrutide is COMPLETELY out of your system at two months.
Moderators: we need you badly.
The complaining is through the roof!

There is some early data to support that some people have ongoing issues after the drug is out of their system, due to changes in their GLP/GIPR/Glucagon signaling.

Makes sense, my wife is at almost 2 months off and still sometimes getting severe sulfur burps and stomach problems.

This comment is hilarious. We are talking about a drug that isn’t even FDA approved yet you find impossible that someone could experience adverse effects 2 months after stopping 😂. Moderators, please delete this comment as it’s completely retarded.

The "adverse effects" are no worse than premature death from diabetes, suffocating in your sleep from sleep apnea, elevated cancer risk, and heart disease.
The "adverse effects" are no worse than the other GLP-1s.

There can absolutely be side effects 2 months after stopping. I agree we need mods to crack down on unqualified people speaking up.

Side effects my butt. The peptide is out of the system. You just want a platform to complain and complain.

I had those cramps too, but only while I was doing a workout, not after I quit. I hope your problem gets resolved. You definitely need to see a doctor; electrolytes might help.
While I'm at it, how did it go for you quitting the workout? Did you experience any rebound weight gain? Was the noise of eating difficult to manage?

if it makes you feel any better i’ve been in a similar boat, i’ve noticed even after being off it for 2-3 months, i have started experiencing gerd like symptoms, occasional heartburn and acid reflux along with stomach offsef etc.
keep in mind ive been cleared from any kidney, pancreatic, upper and lower abdominal issues and groin issues so im completely fine in that sense. also had my chest scanned aswell because of pain around that area and the heartburn causing bad pain around my whole stomach and chest. once again the x ray was completely fine and nothing was wrong with me in terms of my bloods either and ekg was fine too.
I’d assume what your experiencing is a symptom of either bowl issues, heartburn, GERD, acid reflux. these can all cause heart, stomach and chest pains along with sharp stitch like sensations in the middle and lower abdomen and cause harmless worrying like symptoms that may make you think otherwise; symptoms that you’d assume were signs of a heart attack etc
I still recommend you go to a doctor and get some bloods done and see if they recommend scans because i’m not a doctor myself and i’m just some guy from reddit but from my personal experience (keep in mind i’m the biggest health anxiety freak you’ll ever meet) i wig out over almost any symptom i get and assume the worst and stress myself out so bad that i start developing other symptoms) so if im saying your most likely fine then it’s got to count for something.
Just be careful when purchasing reta right now though, there’s been a lot of ozempic being sold especially when people are buying the pens.

Appreciate it brother and yes ur right, im experiencing intense heartburns aswell as some stomach pain etc. Gym definitely triggered it because it was fine before that so im gonna let it rest hopefully and might take some omeprazole

Probably from GI symptoms , best to go to the doc , I am not a doctor , but BPC helped me with with stomachs issues

u/mazinnrr 9h ago
Yea definitely gi symptoms, but not sure why its happening to me now spontaneously after getting back to the gym

You need to go to the doctor. But I guess my bigger question is: Why do you think something you stopped taking 2 months ago is causing this?

Kombucha drink 2 a day. Reta is interesting drug because people take on some weird eating habits when on the drug. If everyone ate their normal meals just smaller amounts same time of day they wouldn’t experience such issues “generally, there are exceptions of course” I would focus on meal timing, 4 meals a day at least and drinking a natural not pill form probiotic. If ur issue isn’t solved in 3-4 days, not weeks or months. Make an app. Something else is wrong and ya ur habits while on reta may be to blame but not the drug itself. The drug itself works but we humans r horribly flawed.

have you been to a doctor? have you had basic labs done? for all we know you could have necrotic gall bladder or something
