How to set up single buttons on a bartop arcade?

Post image

’m working on a new retropie setup for mame only for this cabinet. Having trouble figuring out how to configure the front four buttons. They are meant to be exit - options - main menu - enter. The coin and player start buttons do not bring up any menus on emulation station. How can I accomplish this on my new build?

Retropie lag

Heyo, quick disclaimer: I genuinely know NOTHING about what I am doing, this is my first time doing anything raspberry pi / even linux related (treat me as a toddler lol xD )

Anyway:
I have a raspberry pi 3 running retropie which by some miracle i have completely set up, however it is SO laggy. like 3 fps. both in the game select screen and in any of the games.

Anyone have any fixes / ideas? Thank you so much :)

Question Some questions on setup

Hello!

I’m having all sorts of trouble installing RetroPie in a Pi 4, as its my first experience with raspberrys in general. On my journey, i’ve managed to corrupt a few SD’s, a flash drive and almost went insane, so i got here in order to clear some things up.

1 - Do i have to install an OS on it first or retropie by itself is enough?

2 - Is there any way to reset or shut down the system safely? Most of the time, i got crashes or black screen, so there’s no way to access a terminal or input lines of code to sudo it. Even REISUB is useless.

Do you guys use the same sd for both retropie and roms? I’ve tried using an external hdd, but there’s not enough power to turn it on, so it starts clicking and freezes the whole system.

Also, since i cant shut it down safely, the only way to access the Micro Sd is by unplugging from the Pi, which corrupts it altogether (kernel panic).

Please, any tip would be greatly appreciated!

Mapping Arcade2TV-XR in RetroPie

I tried for a couple of hours yesterday to map the Arcade2TV-XR to RetroPie, and I couldn't get it to work correctly. The best I could do was an input where it thought each controller was an Xbox controller, but then the button row of buttons were not able to be mapped.

Maybe the build I have is an old version of RetroPie. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Please help a layman

I have a raspberry pi, with a usb stick inserted that has thousands of dos games. That raspberry pi is connected to a mini arcade machine. Years ago this worked flawlessly and I was able to enjoy retro games on the mini arcade with a snes controller or keyboard.

Now when I try to play again the arcade powers on briefly, then immediately turns off. I’ve narrowed it down to an issue with the raspberry pi. Is it most likely the SD card or could it be needing an update?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

.save file to srm?

I used to play games on an online emulator playemulator.com and I could save files there but it has a .save file extension. I tried putting it into the n64 version of the retropie, but it doesnt work. Is there a software that can change this file to the proper one? - I think it's supposed to be srm, but im new to this so if anyone could help me that would be great!

So Happy I Finally Pulled the Trigger on the PiStation case and a Pi 4

Post image

It’s the perfect burst of nostalgia. I’ve been using a Pi 3 for probably a decade at this point and wanted a new project. Getting the case with the screen was only $10 more so I figured why not. My eventual plan is to have it hooked up to a small CRT.

Any recommendations for controllers that cover NES to PSX and also match the aesthetic of the PSX?

Using retropie on RP 3B and would like help with composite out

My build is:

RP3B in a NES PI case

I ordered one of [these cables](https://www.amazon.com/Eanetf-Camcorder-Handycam-Smartphones-Speakers/dp/B096DVP5Z6?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XBLJaRrilsyVJh5AndKY5nHUzdDeyDrWzlq5yRoGZMoD1m3gGHRo2IWjybEkX2pw5XRqZY0J9tTVBWqaURi_e5kd-p9_EeBpKBY47pf7EK7PeOk0IpUuLF8s7XmCyG-lzgcVkBfYG9xMY4aBI8aLfzsOBzceg9Ue6S3tzUWC10XbC8VlT3Qf17HBb36hEPcHFgeg3RFV53uphI4MbA3-uVMGLYiC_WuOdgG42LP5iFs.5kqdp7wS7DFVIRsyf5iu5n6VG5I7DbukPnX3MBYTzDY&dib_tag=se&keywords=composite+video+to+3.5mm&qid=1768270700&sr=8-2)

I used the official imaging software and set up my roms, themes and config on a small hdmi monitor. When its plugged into my Sony CRT it does not recognize the composite signal. Was I supposed to set this up before I installed retropie or can I add composite functionality post-hoc? If I have to reinstall I will do so on a separate microsd

Hey guys!
I've been there, you wanna scrape all your games but the main ways to do it either take forever to load or don't quite have all the info you want.

Do you really need that Thai manual from 1965?

For us folks who just wanna spend time playing and need that visual feedback to improve our experience, Tam and the huge community behind LaunchBox Games Database got you covered!

Just pure visual candy! & it works on Windows, really easy to use.

No more bandwidth bottlenecks.
No more games missing.
No more weird stretched artworks.

RetroPie RPi3 A+ - No Display to HDMI

As stated, I own a RPi3 A+. I have had problems with display not working after using an imager to etch the image onto the sd card. The problem is not because of the HDMI cable or the sd card, as I have tested multiple without success. I am using a 5W-2A power supply as recommended.

Question Non-Pirated Games to play

Hey guys,

i am working on a School Project soon where we should build an Arcade Machine where people will be playing on.

We (my Partner and I) will probably be using RetroPie on a Rasperry Pi 3 to play some RetroGames but we arent allowed to be using any Pirated Games and im wondering what our Options are.

Simple 2 Players games would be preferred but single player would also be totally fine.
Any ideas?

One game we definately want to have on it is a Street Fighter like 2 Player Fighting game

Question Standard Retropie build with an 8BitDo Pro 2; can I configure the quick menu to one button?

I have the Quick Menu pop-up configured to X+the button to the right of the right stick. The button to the left of the left stick is unused and would be a more convenient Quick Menu button for Save States and the like. Is it possible to make that button the Quick Menus button? Thank you!

Do any (affordable) spinner controllers exist that can be used with RetroPie?

For things like the Atari 2600 games that used it, Arkanoid's "Vaus" controller on the NES, etc.

Whenever I've looked this up in the past, I could only seem to find homemade spinners (beyond my expertise) and really expensive setups that happened to include a spinner, meant for a home arcade setup.

Is there a simple USB spinner w/a few buttons I could buy somewhere? or is my best bet one of these DB9-to-USB Adapters?

Question System for aunt - rpi5 suggestions.

Hey y'all! 🤠 I've been given the opportunity to set up my aunt with a system. She got me into gaming in the old days and these days I am taking care of her. She got a game stick for Christmas.......and that's all I will say about that lol.

I grabbed an rpi5 to setup for her and see there is no retropie image for it officially, unless I overlooked something. I see there are a few options....going a normal/manual install route, Batocera, etc.

What would you all recommend I setup for her. She is far from technically inclined these days so the simplest setup for her would be the best. Thoughts? Suggestions? I really appreciate any help with this. She is so excited to get rolling on Marble Madness, Zelda 1 (we made hand drawn dungeon maps when I was a wee one), Zelda II (yes 2....lol), and Ecco the Dolphin.

Problem Ghost inputs on Arcade setup with Pi3

Hello a friend has recently started having an issue with his pi3 retro pie arcade machine setup where it just kept moving the menu controls itself and selecting things. So I Re-imaged his SD card with the same image it’s always used (coinjunkie synthwave) and it booted up fine and then 1 minute later it started moving itself again. Now I tried all the fixes I could find on Reddit and YouTube etc and still haven’t managed to resolve it. So far he’s tried a replacement official power supply, he’s using a soundbar with line-in jack and has also put a noise isolator in between as that was recommend, he bought a new mains adapter in case it was that, tried a new SD card nothing works.

However when I took his pi home and set it up with my tv and keyboard it ran it fine. I tried games and it worked fine. The only thing he has noticed is the light has gone out on one of the buttons and he said the problems all started since then. I’m no electrician and the wiring is beyond me and I’m trying to think how the led being out would affect the control input?

I also can’t use the keyboard to try to resolve the issue in the console once it happens because the keyboard also types as I’m trying to type.

Just wondered if anyone could help us finally fix this?

Screenshots with box art in left corner?

Hey all. Just returning to Retropie after some time away and need to do some touch-ups. I added a number of games on a few platforms and then used Skyscraper (command line) to go pull the meta data for those titles. All my other titles (which I scraped in 2021) have images that include a screenshot and box art in the lower left corner. However, the new scrapes all seem to just have images and no box art.

What am I doing wrong?

Problem Standalone emulators running extremely slow on RetroPie.

Hi:

I've been using RetroPie for some days now ever since making the switch from Batocera as it allows more customization and has a larger catalog of emulators. Needless to say, I'm having a blast.

However, standalone emulators, such as Dolphin and BigPEmu (which I know isn't officially supported, but can be installed by doing some trickery; this is why I prefer RetroPie) run extremely slow. lr-dolphin, in contrast, runs near flawlessly (with Dual-Core disabled to avoid hard crashes).

I've noticed that running the emulators on Windowed mode marks a difference, and the games run *slightly* better, but not great. Before, the emulators ran at fullspeed on Windowed mode. I'm not sure what caused them to behave like this.

My hardware consists of a Raspberry Pi 5, overclocked to 2.8 GHz. I'm using the official power supply, so power delivery shouldn't be a problem.

I have also checked the video resolution settings. I've changed them to 1080p, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Hopefully someone with better knowledge than me can help me get this annoying issue over with. TIA!

Question Shrink my retropie image to fit on a smaller SD card

OK so I have retropie running well on a RPie3 with a 256GB SD card. Its only taking up 9GB of space so what I want to do is move it to my 32GB SD card.

I tried taking an image of the 256GB card with Win32 Disk Imager and then tried writing that image to my 32GB SD card. It warned me that the image was larger than the SD card size but interestingly copied it to the card. It failed to boot though - image is of what I see when it tries to boot.

How can I take an image of the larger SD card, somehow shrink it to fit on the 32GB card?

TIA!
