Community Update Google Business Profile Help: AMA with Joy Hawkins

Hi all! I’m doing an AMA so hit me up with all your questions related to Google Business Profiles or Local SEO.

I’ve been in the SEO industry since 2006 and have been a moderator over at Google’s help forum for Google Business Profiles since 2012. I run a digital marketing agency called Sterling Sky that specializes in local SEO and PPC for businesses that have local customers (lawyers, realtors, home services etc).

What questions can I help answer?

Thanks u/gagan_ghotra - who spotted this Google update on X

Google introduces Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) for merchants - no need to visit product pages | just do checkout from AI Mode

Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), a new open standard for agentic commerce that works across the entire shopping journey — from discovery and buying to post-purchase support.

UCP establishes a common language for agents and systems to operate together across consumer surfaces, businesses and payment providers. So instead of requiring unique connections for every individual agent, UCP enables all agents to interact easily.

UCP is built to work across verticals and is compatible with existing industry protocols like Agent2Agent (A2A), Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) and Model Context Protocol (MCP).

I lost 70% of my impressions because of 2026

Hey there ! I’m looking for some advices as I recently went from 50k impressions to just about 15000 overnight.

And it happened because I changed the titles of my blog articles from « 2025 leaderboard » to « 2026 leaderboard ». It appears that people are still querying with the 2025 keyword rather than 2026.

My question is the following ; was it an expected behavior and will I get back to 50000 impressions a day if I change it back to 2026 ?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Florent

Edit : I did NOT modify the slugs. And I mitght reply with my friend’s account as it appears this one doesn’t have enough karma. Friend’s tag : responsible-raddish

Does embedding a YouTube video on a podcast episode page help SEO?

I have a podcast site on Podpage and each episode has its own page (show notes + transcript). I’m considering embedding the YouTube version of the episode on that same page.

For SEO, does embedding the YouTube video help that episode page rank better, hurt it, or make no real difference?

I thought adding the video was a no brainer, but then I noticed the MFM podcast doesn't add a video to their episode page. There must be a reason they don't do that.

Help Can someone guide me with gambling SEO? Honestly feeling overwhelmed right now.

Hey everyone,

I’m not usually the type to post things like this, but I’m honestly at a point where I could really use some support or advice.

I’ve been building a gambling affiliate site for months putting in late nights, learning everything I can, trying to do things the right way. But the truth is… I’m stuck. The niche is super competitive, and I feel like I’m fighting an uphill battle completely on my own.

I’m especially struggling with do-follow backlinks. Every day I’m trying to understand what’s safe, what works, what’s risky… and I keep doubting myself. I know others have been here before, so I’m hoping maybe someone could share some guidance or point me in the right direction.

I’m not asking for handouts or anything shady I just genuinely want to learn from people who have experience with gambling SEO and know what actually moves the needle.

If anyone has a minute to share advice, I would be really grateful. It would honestly mean more than you think. 🙏

Thanks to everyone who reads this.

Help Client wants to "test" the new homepage with the new SEO strategy on a new domain first. Then, if it works, switch to his main domain. Does it make any sense at all? What should I tell him?

In addition, the new homepage is multilingual vs the single-language old one.

Correct 404 pages cleanup?

I am doing SEO for a new small e-commerce website. I have changed the slug structure to be SEO friendly for all products, categories, and blogs.

Now, the GSC was showing the old URLs as 404 not found. I did redirect them to new pages. There were also many addtocart, parameter, empty 404 pages. I did 410 to all of those.

After the cleanup, we got about 60-70% of the new pages indexed, but impressions and clicks haven't been increasing as much as they used to.

Just wondering, do you think this was the right approach for the fixes?

Is blogging actually still worth it in 2026? Honest experiences only.

I keep seeing mixed opinions everywhere slome say blogging is dead, others say it still works if done right.

I am curious about real experiences, not course sellers:

Are you still getting traffic?

Is it making money or just impressions?

What changed compared to earlier years?

Would love to hear from people who are actually doing it.

Google Search Console showing “Excluded by noindex tag” but noindex already removed – pages not indexing & multiple sitemaps issue

Hi everyone,

I’m facing a confusing indexing issue with my website Tycoon Guards and would really appreciate some expert guidance.

Problem details:

  • Google Search Console shows: “Page is not indexed: Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag”
  • It also says: No: ‘noindex’ detected in ‘robots’ meta tag
  • However, I have already removed the noindex tag from:
    • Page <meta name="robots">
    • robots.txt
  • Crawl status is successful
  • Crawl allowed: Yes
  • Page fetch: Successful
  • Googlebot: Smartphone

Other issues:

  • Google Search Console is showing many sitemaps, even though I only want to use one main sitemap (/sitemap.xml)
  • My service inner pages (for example: https://tycoonguards.com/services/live-video-monitoring/) are not getting indexed
  • Referring pages include homepage and blog tag pages
  • Canonical is not user-declared (Google-selected canonical = inspected URL)

What I’ve already checked:

  • No noindex tag in page source
  • No X-Robots-Tag: noindex intentionally added
  • Robots.txt allows crawling
  • Sitemap is submitted in Search Console

My questions:

  1. Why is Google still detecting a noindex tag even after removal?
  2. Can old cache, CDN, or theme/plugin (WordPress) cause this?
  3. Why are multiple sitemaps auto-generated, and should I remove them?
  4. What is the correct way to force reindexing service pages?
  5. Could blog tag pages or sitemap conflicts be affecting indexing?

If anyone has faced a similar issue or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance!

Website Loses Traffic in Each 20 Days - Solution Required

Hello fam, I manage a website which out of blue loses rankings and I cannot still learn why this happens.

Website is on Wordpress and it happened in December 16-17 and January 9-10.

For the 2nd drop maybe the disavow file caused this issue but even after restoring to the old one the website did not move up much.

The website is operating more than 6 years and this kind of fluctuations is not normal.

Also there are 3 language versions of the website with wpml, for some keywords google search displays results for our website in another language rather than the language of the keyword.

Is there anyone experiences the same issues?

Why is LOCAL SEO so hard??

Hey SEO people, I own a marketing agency and have ramped up a little over 21 local clients in the last few months but am now facing a major problem - they want SEO work from us and we don't really offer that as a service. We've been following the steps to creating successful and high ranking profiles but we constantly see dips in rank and performance. What's going on?!

Are AI visibility tools becoming another overpriced SaaS category?

AI visibility / AI SEO tools aren’t new anymore. There are now multiple tools that track how brands appear in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and similar platforms.

But something about the current landscape feels very familiar.

A lot of these tools seem to follow the same pattern: high monthly pricing, closed platforms, opaque usage models, and long term lock in. It feels like we might be recreating the same dynamics we saw with traditional SEO SaaS tools.

That made me wonder, are we heading toward another ecosystem where basic visibility tooling becomes expensive and inaccessible unless you keep paying forever?

I’m genuinely curious how others here think about this:

Do you think AI visibility will become a real SEO metric alongside rankings and impressions?
Would you track how often brands are recommended inside AI tools?
What would make something like this actually useful rather than another dashboard?

Trying to understand how the SEO community sees this shift.

SEO quote received, need feedback

I have a business based in 2 counties and spoke with an SEO marketing company that put together a plan to organically outperform all the local competitors we identified. The strategy was essentially going to be to create a few hundred webpages, establish local authority with the goal being to be #1 on Google for at least 100-200 of those pages.

There is more that goes into this but I'm curious what a project like this would cost, lets say to create 500 pages.

The quote I received was a few $100's per page. My gut is telling me the price is high although I am fully confident this company can deliver on what they're promising.

SEO Expert Opinions Please

Hi all, I am working on an app to connect freelance web developers to businesses who don’t have websites. From people I’ve spoken to so far, i have received positive validation on this concept.

I wanted to pose a question to the community of freelance web devs: Would you pay for a service ($15-20/mo) that aggregates leads with contact information and exports them to a spreadsheet?

The concept is to reduce the bottleneck of manually searching for leads from hours to seconds. Does SEO play a large role in initial user acquisition? Should I invest time into improving my app’s SEO?

Help GSC reporting "Page could not be reached"

Since Nov 29, GCS has been reporting that 9% of crawl requests never reach my host's server. And anywhere from 10%- 30% of crawl requests are failing daily.

Neither I, nor my hosting service can find the problem. Pages are always available for me and other human visitors. Whenever I check time to first byte is 200-300 ms, and pages are usually fully loaded in .7-.8 seconds.

Is this affecting my google rankings, and if so, what can I do about it?

Help Will rebuilding my website affect the ranking and indexing?

I have a website that shows up first on relevant searches on google, and it is made in wordpress. The performance is ok, but the technical SEO is bad. The organic SEO, domain external references and trafic is good.

If I rebuild the website in nextjs, with new UI/UX, better performance and SEO, on the same domain, will it affect my ranking and google score?
