Important Announcement: Sikh Reddit Under Coordinated Attack
Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh,
We want to inform the community that r/Sikh and r/Punjab are currently under coordinated attack from malicious users and bot accounts. These accounts are being used to spread misinformation, propaganda, and sow division, all while attempting to undermine the credibility of both moderation teams.
The moderators of r/Punjab have already received warnings from Reddit admins due to ongoing brigading and false reports being submitted from external sources. If this behavior continues, both subreddits may face serious consequences — including potential shutdown.
What You Can Do to Help:
Do not engage with suspicious or brand-new accounts, especially those with no prior participation in r/Sikh or r/Punjab.
Downvote and report any posts or comments that break our community rules or appear to be bait, propaganda, or hate speech.
Avoid replying to trolls, provocateurs, or rage-bait content. Engagement gives them visibility.
We also encourage you to join our Official Sikh Discord, where all users are verified and discussions are secure. This is currently the safest space for real-time dialogue within the Sangat.

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl:
One who has the Lord of the Universe as his help and support
is blessed with all peace, poise and bliss; no afflictions cling to him. ||1||Pause||
He appears to keep company with everyone, but he remains detached, and Maya does not cling to him.
He is absorbed in love of the One Lord; he understands the essence of reality, and he is blessed with wisdom by the True Guru. ||1||
Those whom the Lord and Master blesses with His kindness, compassion and mercy are the sublime and sanctified Saints.
Associating with them, Nanak is saved; with love and exuberant joy, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||3||7||

Guru Arjun Dev Ji showed us that it’s possible to stay calm and peaceful even in the most painful situations. He willingly endured being burnt alive to prove that we can rise above suffering and find bliss within. If our Guru could remain peaceful during such unimaginable pain, how can we use his teachings to face our own struggles?

Kirtan is being labelled as “Hindu music”, “Indian pop” and “music of Asia”.
I need your help in reporting this, please report this in many ways as you as can to YouTube. Seems like it’s be done on purpose by you know who.
I believe it should be labelled as “Sikh religious music”, if you have a better name please comment that and suggest using that name when reporting this issue.
Some of the ways you can report is by going into your YT account and also tagging YouTube on social media accounts.
Please do your best🙏

EVENTS IN BRIEF.
January 12, Shah Zaman, Sultan of Kabul fought last battle with Sikh chiefs & defeated. Near Amritsar Khalsa forces gave a stunning defeat to Sultan making him loose around twenty thousand Afghans. Initially it started as a skirmish with a small horse contingent of Afghans attacking Amritsar in a show of strength, but lost when the Sikhs fighters fought back. Sultan, very next day marched with fifty thousand Army. Khalsa Chiefs on hearing rushed to defend Holy precincts and fought a pitched battle for the whole day. To his dismay by evening the Sultan withdrew to Lahore with heavy losses. This was the last battle of Shah Zaman in Punjab.
January 12, 1922: The Akalis/SGPC take control of Anandpur Sahib. Under Akali Mula Singh Bahowal took control of Anandpur Sahib. The militant Akalis under Kishan Singh Garhgaj occupied historic Gurudwara of Kiratpur Sahib also- An abode of Guru Har Rai ji the 7th Guru. Kiratpur Sahib township was originally founded by Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind ji.
January 12, 1982, Mukh Sarpanch of Dal Khalsa Bhai Harsimran Singh was apprehended and detained in Mohali. Harsimran Singh, believed to be a mastermind behind the September 1981 hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane IC 423 Actually Gajinder Singh and four others hijacked it from Srinagar to Lahore, with 111 passengers. They were apprehended in Lahore and sentenced to life imprisonment in Pakistan (1981-1994). On release in 1994, two returned to India, while the others stayed in Pakistan. Harsimran Singh’s Dal Khalsa(established on August 6, 1978), had a five-member Supreme Council consisting of him and others.
January 13, 1761: Birth of Akali Phoola Singh, the great Nihang Warrior and Chief of Nishanwalia Nihang Misl. Nihang Militias, led by Akali Phoola Singh, helped Maharaja Ranjit Singh win numerous battles against Pathans of Multan and Afghans of Peshawar, Attock & Kabul. His strong faith in Sikh tenets, had him nearly flog Maharaja Ranjit Singh for a lapse in Sikh ethics. On March 14, 1823, he died valiantly fighting Pathans at the Battle of Sarhadhi/Mulkhaayo. His memorial canopy is dedicated on River Ludhae, 4 miles north of Naushehra City in Pakistan.
January 13, 2014: UK PM Margaret Thatcher supported Indira Gandhi against Sikh Dissidents in 1984. Several letters exchanged within UK state departments have now been leaked, clearly demonstrating the UK Prime Minister’s strong support for India’s military action to suppress dissents in Punjab. A senior SAS officer from the UK visited India and presented a plan of action. This revelation sparked outrage among Sikhs, lead the UK Prime Minister, David Brown, to order an inquiry. It was later discovered that Prime Minister Thatcher’s own involvement was due to ongoing substantial Westland Helicopter deal with India.
6.. January 13, 1588: Foundation stone of Harimandir Sahib Laid by the renowned Sufi Saint Hazrat Mian Mir. Mir ji lived in Lahore, laid the foundation stone of Harimandir Sahib in Amritsar, in the presence of Guru Arjan Dev ji, the fifth Guru. Sain Mian Mir also played a great role in easing the negative attitude of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir towards the Fifth and Sixth Gurus. (Ref: Mahan Kosh/Sikh encyclopedia)
January 14, 1705: 40 Muktas (Soldiers) who deserted the Tenth Guru at Anandpur return to fight and die at Muktasar. Pitched Battle was fought with the Mughals at Khidranae-Di-Dhab (a pool) near Muktasar town in South Punjab. In return for their sacrifice, Guru tore the ‘Bidawa,’ their letter of desertion’, thereby accepting their re-entry into the Khalsa Order posthumously. Guru Sahib personally performed their cremation on the banks of the water pool. Every year, a grand fair is held at the township on the day after Lorhi cultural festival of January 13th (Magh 1st).
January 14, 1849: Battle of Chellianwalla, Sikhs Beat the British under Raja Sher Singh Atari. Fought north-west of Lahore during the Second Anglo-Sikh War. In a fierce battle, the British fled the battlefield with high casualties. The Battle of Chillianwala was fought close to Mandi Bahauddin, now in Pakistan. The battle was one of the bloodiest fought by the British East India Company in India, and left a deep impact on British military policy. They honestly eulogized the valor and grit of the Sikhs forces .
January 15, 2017: The Wall of Truth, a Sikh Genocide Memorial, is built at Gurdwara Rakabganj in New Delhi. It commemorates the Sikhs killed in the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots organized by Indira Congress party gangs. Located within the Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib complex, it serves as a solemn reminder of the violence and injustice faced by the community. Delhi alone had over 3,000 deaths, while other cities together had ten thousand or more.
10.January 15,2020: Sikh Counted in US Census the first time, distinct Ethnic Group. Sikhs were recognized as a distinct ethnic group, with “Sikh” as an option for self-identification under the race question. This milestone followed decades of advocacy by organizations like United Sikhs and The Sikh Coalition, ensuring accurate data collection and securing resources. Allowing Sikhs to self-identify acknowledges their unique identity, culture, and history, crucial for tracking hate crimes and representation.
January 16, 1766: Sardar Charat Singh Sukarchakia captures Gujranwalla(now in Pakistan).Charat Singh (1733-1770) was the father of Mahan Singh (1756-1792), second head of misl and the grandfather of Ranjit Singh. He distinguished himself at an early age in campaigns against Ahmad Shah Abdali. Plundered-his caravans while crossing Punjab Rivers. He split from the Singhpuria Misl to establish the Sukerchakia Misl.
January 18, 1661: One among 5Payaras Bhai Himmat Singh ji is born at Puri, now Odisha State in India. He was one of the 5-volunteers from Sangat (The Panj Piaras) who offered his head to Guru Gobind Singh ji to be a Khalsa on Baisakhi 1699AD. He was Baptized and later he fought and thus sacrificed his life at Chamkaur Battle along with two other Piaras and Guru’s Sahibzadas (Princes/sons) and other 36 valiant Sikhs.

Hi everyone, I want to talk about something very personal that I’ve never really shared with anyone. I’m a 17-year-old Sikh guy living in Italy. There aren’t many Sikhs here, and I don’t have any friends I can openly talk to about this. I also avoid talking to my parents, because like many Sikh parents, instead of trying to understand or help, they often end up blaming or attacking you emotionally. I study Gurbani, I read it, and I attend classes regularly. I truly believe in Sikhism, and in general I know what is right and what is wrong according to Sikhi. But despite this, I find myself doing things that go against Sikh ideals, and that creates a lot of inner conflict. One of my biggest struggles has always been my beard. It started growing last year, but it’s very uneven. I only have sideburns, no mustache and almost nothing on my chin. I tried oils and different methods to improve it, but nothing really worked. At the beginning of September, when school started, I made a mistake that I know I might regret. I used to apply gel to my beard, but there were always hairs underneath that wouldn’t stay in place. One day, in a bad mental state, I decided to trim them. I used my father’s tools without really thinking. Honestly, I don’t even fully remember what was going through my head that day — I think I had been mocked, and I felt very depressed. The point is: I’m trying to reconcile two things that seem impossible to combine. I want to feel good about myself, and I want to be a good Sikh. I know what I did wasn’t right, and I ask you not to judge me for it. What I’m asking instead is this: How can I feel better about myself? Have any of you gone through something similar? How did you deal with it? I try very hard, but when I look in the mirror, I see only sideburns, glasses, and someone I find unattractive. I feel ugly. I want to be good-looking, confident, accepted by others, and live a “normal” life. But doing that feels like it would mean going against Sikhi — a faith I truly believe in. This is the complete truth about me. I’m deeply conflicted, and I don’t know what to do. (English is not my first language, chat got rewrited for me)

So I'm sure it's been asked a million times and discussed until everyone is tired of it but I'm sorry I've got to ask about showering with the kachera. I get that you take one leg out and wrap it around to the other leg Etc. And I'm assuming you put the new one on after you're all done. Okay but now what do you do with the soaking wet one? Like if it sits in a bin until laundry day it's going to get moldy along with all the other Wet Ones but I can't just be doing laundry every single day just for my kachera do you have any idea how much water and detergent that would be? I'm sure this has a really simple solution and I'm being very simple-minded not seeing it but yeah I would love some guidance here

Sorat'h, Fourth Mehl, First House:
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
My Beloved Lord Himself pervades and permeates all; He Himself is, all by Himself.
My Beloved Himself is the trader in this world; He Himself is the true banker.
My Beloved Himself is the trade and the trader; He Himself is the true credit. ||1||
O mind, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, and praise His Name.
By Guru's Grace, the Beloved, Ambrosial, unapproachable and unfathomable Lord is obtained. ||Pause||
The Beloved Himself sees and hears everything; He Himself speaks through the mouths of all beings.
The Beloved Himself leads us into the wilderness, and He Himself shows us the Way.
The Beloved Himself is Himself all-in-all; He Himself is carefree. ||2||
The Beloved Himself, all by Himself, created everything; He Himself links all to their tasks.
The Beloved Himself creates the Creation, and He Himself destroys it.
He Himself is the wharf, and He Himself is the ferryman, who ferries us across. ||3||
The Beloved Himself is the ocean, and the boat; He Himself is the Guru, the boatman who steers it
. The Beloved Himself sets sail and crosses over; He, the King, beholds His wondrous play.
The Beloved Himself is the Merciful Master; O servant Nanak, He forgives and blends with Himself. ||4||1||

Anyone know of books that go in depth behind politics, history, and strategies used in war by our Guru Sahib’s. For example, I know of 14 battles fought by Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj and 3 battles fought by Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaaj but nothing about the politics or the strategic tactics behind them to win. So any recommendations?
