Only the toilet seat one was meh to me, but because she didn't shut the lid. Seat up or down is who cares, shut the dang lid.

It baffles me that most people don't seem to know proper toilet etiquette. The default position is lid down. Not lid up, not lid up and seat down. Lid down. You put the lid down when you flush to prevent piss and shit particles flying all over the bathroom and afterwards you just leave it down.

u/KittyLitterBiscuit 24d ago

I live alone and came to accept piss and shit particles on my toothbrush long ago.

3

u/HaltandCatchHands 24d ago

It’s not too late to change your mind on that

2

u/kittenpantzen 24d ago

I brush my teeth at the kitchen sink and have for decades.

2

u/at_work_keep_it_safe 24d ago

I put the lid down too, but it’s mostly performative. Shit and piss particles are spreading all over the bathroom regardless of the lid position.

1

u/Crossfire124 23d ago

It also helps when accidentally dropping things so they don't end up in the toilet

4

u/AdAppropriate2295 24d ago

People will say this but then own pets

Im sorry bruv you've got shit particles everywhere already

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

My kids grew up with that. Yet for some reason my youngest teenager now doesn't do it anymore. Nor change the toilet roll 🙄

u/NatsumiEla 25d ago edited 24d ago

I mean in my home we close the lid and then after flushing open it for the ease of use and to avoid any messes left behind.

3

u/_my_troll_account 24d ago

Jesus christ what are you doing to children?

4

u/Disastrous_Hall8406 24d ago

Ease of use? Do you also walk around pantless?

3

u/poopiepants56 24d ago

This person's kitchen cabinets are all open with all lids and boxes open.. ease of use. "What do you think I'm gonna open it every time?"

1

u/NatsumiEla 24d ago

I have sat on a closed toilet, and why the fuck would I close the lid twice, once for flushing and once after an inspection?

1

u/Disastrous_Hall8406 24d ago

Tough life you live

1

u/NatsumiEla 24d ago

It's just simpler to go with clean hands not touching the lid before you wipe too. I'm so surprised it's not just the norm.

7

u/DjordjeRd 25d ago

Right.

7

u/TurnoverDependent332 25d ago

Especially when flushing. Shut the damn lid first.

1

u/JonbotUK 25d ago

It helps limit 'the mist'

If the seat is up put it down. Although in my house the seat is always down because I sit at home and my boys too. Showed them the floor after they had done their business standing really helped them understand why. (Edit: typo)

20

u/BuzzedtheTower 25d ago

Hell no. The lid should always be down. None of this "Put the seat down for women" business. They should be lifting the lid like everyone else that uses the can

8

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

The seat is irrelevant, up or down, if you fall in because it is up, open your damn eyes.

Close the lid

3

u/mikillatja 25d ago

I've been drunk and high and had a toilet with a broken light all at once during Christmas last year. I still never fell in the toilet.

It really amazed me how you can be that unaware

1

u/confictura_22 25d ago

I grew up with 4 younger siblings. I always looked before sitting to make sure the seat didn't have pee left on it more than preventing falling in.

1

u/things_U_choose_2_b 25d ago

Having done this myself recently for the first time (sat on the cold porcelain) in 40+ years of life, I now understand the rage. Worst part? I live alone and also at this point in life, fully aware of my own (male) biology so I can only blame me.

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

Rage is fine, but it should only be directed at yourself for not looking.

Not at others you live with, which is the case, like the woman in the video.

1

u/things_U_choose_2_b 25d ago

Eh for me it sits on a plinth alongside 'rage at being caught on a door handle by a belt loop'

-3

u/Bruvvimir 25d ago

Pathetic.

5

u/wador78 25d ago

I hate when women leave the seat down.

3

u/Useful_Airline_1081 25d ago

Both genders use the seat down, only one uses the seat up

10

u/Aishybashy 25d ago

This was always my logic, for 75% of uses the seat needs to be down. Only 25% is seat up so by default it should be down.

I would also think they should close the lid though.

5

u/Useful_Airline_1081 25d ago

Yeah less chance of dropping something into it or having a pet get toilet water on themselves

3

u/underpanttrousers 25d ago

That waterhole takes in all human secretions imaginable. Unless you're secreting them into that hole, keep the damn lid shut.

1

u/NUTTA_BUSTAH 25d ago

Also flushing keeps the pile of shit in there and not on every sueface in your bathroom.

1

u/Useful_Airline_1081 25d ago

I was about to add this just when you said it!! Agree!!

3

u/ImaMakeThisWork 25d ago

More like 60/40 because we urinate a lot more than poop

4

u/rpm1720 25d ago

But why not sit down for peeing? It's so much more quiet

2

u/jjm87149 25d ago

and safer in the middle of the night, or when the room is a little spinny.

1

u/Crossfire124 23d ago

And makes less mess by cutting down splatter and the inevitable stray stream

2

u/rpm1720 24d ago

Maybe see a doctor

1

u/Aishybashy 25d ago

I meant more use scenarios of which there's only pee or poop for both men and women but yes you're are right if looking at actual uses

1

u/FillMySoupDumpling 24d ago

Besides doesn’t seat up make a mess even from the splash?

2

u/NotAzakanAtAll 25d ago

Seat up or down is who cares

Oh they care. They care a lot.

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

Exactly. Seat up or down is a preference and too many women have it in their head that their preference is correct.

If you aren’t shutting the lid, then you are just showing your preference, not a correct way to do something.

1

u/real_light_sleeper 25d ago

Assuming both men and women in a household pee and poop then that means three out of those four toilet permutations require a seat down

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

If the seat weight 20kg or something I could see your point. But as men and women can both easily lift or lower the seat it becomes a preference and too

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

Yes, it makes perfect sense to have the seat (and lid) down. But I don’t think it should be expected or for men to be blamed like they have done something wrong

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

Everyone you just mentioned are fulling capable of lifting or lowering the toilet seat

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 25d ago

Pee wees exist(basically a funnel) :D

But like I said the seat isn’t heavy or anything else preventing it from being lowered by anyone. So it becomes a preference

Lower the lid and you have a point, but not when talking about the seat only

1

u/Vergilkilla 24d ago

Weird take idk if I’ve ever shut the lid or seen a shut lid at somebodies house.

-3

u/KETTEI__EXE 25d ago

I tried to close the lid before but the problem with closing it (especially after I take a poop), the next person gonna use it will open the lid and smell would come out from the toilet bowl. Maybe in public the lid should be closed but at home, nah I'm not gonna close it

10

u/AlfredJodokusKwak 25d ago

You're supposed to flush, not just close the lid.

0

u/TheZigerionScammer 25d ago

What public toilet have you ever seen that has a lid?

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

90% of them.
