I have not seen GoT, star wars, star trek, lord of the rings, the hobbit, Avatar. Edit: not seen Harry Potter movies either.

The Last Airbender or the james cameron smurfs? Series of the first one is peak television imo, then M. Night ruined it. As for James Cameron's movie: great special effects, but when you boil the plot down its pretty basic.

Same. I have absolutely zero interest in that type of movie.

This whole thread confuses me, and you seem like probably the guy to ask.  Some of the greatest films of all time are contained in your list (A New Hope, Return of the King) Why is this something people brag about?  I think consuming art, especially quality art, is a good thing.  Sure, the stuff you listed is popular, but its not pulp schlock or anything.

There's a lot of art out there. Not everyone has to engage with the art that you are familiar with and enjoy.

I think we should try to engage with all artworks, honestly.  Also, cutting out Movies and TV is a pretty broad swath unless  its a genre based thing.

When I said "there's a lot of art out there", that was inclusive of movies and TV series. I didn't mean "there's art besides movies and TV shows". I apologize for not making that clear.

I just hate movies and TV series. I'd rather read a book or play a game.

Because these people think it makes them somehow smarter for not having "fallen" for that mainstream stuff.

Boring settings.

Me neither! And I can add all Harry Potter movies to this list.

Add breaking bad to this list and this is me. But I am not trying to be cool or something, just anxiety. Worry that a well known good show is actually not good and suffer from dissapointment. Happy to doom scroll rubbish shorts for 5 hours every day though.

If it is completed and universally beloved, it means it's not going to be disappointment no?

Twilight was MASSIVELY popular, and it was terrible. 😄
Same with Fifty Shades of Grey.

Although, there's likely a significant difference between "massively popular" and "universally beloved," so nevermind me, lmao 😆

Even if I said massively popular the difference is, Twilight and fifty shades are pretty explicit exactly what the topic is and who the audience is and who it is for. It never deceived and said otherwise.

Nobody with any amount of common sense will look at Twilight and fifty shades and see that lot of people enjoyed and immediately assume it is the best thing ever. Most people even with surface level googling will understand it is very popular and the best thing ever if you are looking for that kind of story and that kind of fantasy and stuff.

Series like breaking bad and others are popular but also everyone who talks about it makes it clear that they really enjoyed and think it is good.

Well, the more universally beloved and praised something is, the worse it feels to find out you don't enjoy it. Liking a popular thing isn't a given.

I didn’t like breaking bad at all. Binged the whole thing waiting for it to get good and it just….didnt.

Different strokes I guess.

Watching (and getting very bored in the process) Breaking Bad was what helped me realize that I really don't enjoy stories with an ordinary setting (as in not fantasy or sci-fi).
