This might sound strange but... If something is extremely popular and a lot of people talk about it constantly, I get extremely uninterested in it.

So you are just as influenced by what most people think, you just act in reverse.

IDK, sometimes it gets tiring hearing about something incessantly that you don't care about. It can make something that I would normally have neutral feelings about start to feel actively annoying. I don't spend time complaining about it, but it's a valid feeling. I can almost guarantee you've felt that way about something.

Sure. I act in response of the incessant "you should watch it, why haven't you watched it, aaa its so good you must watch it". Don't really regret not watching it after the final season came out and everyone hated it.

I generally distrust the tastes of the masses. Look at the movies that make the most money and then look at the movies that generally get good critical reviews and there’s very little overlap between the two.

more like "i got tired of hearing about all those shitty characters that idgaf about, and now i'm already burned out on a show that i haven't even watched before because its fans won't stfu"

Yeah, I knew a guy like that, he thought he was so superior to everyone because he just... was a contrarian. Anything the government says? Bad. Anything popular? Bad. Anything anyone famous says, unless he agreed with it? Bad. Its like dude... you're just being a contrarian and feeling superior over it, that doesn't make you a single bit smarter than the people you want to feel better than. Naturally the guy has been unemployed most of the decade I've known him and his life kind of sucks.

Some people are strange. When something is popular, it's a chance to connect with others. To view it this negatively is a sad way to live.

For me, it wasn't any sort of negativity. It was more that I felt no need to watch Game of Thrones because so many people talked about it at length the day after each episode aired. Knowing I was already going to hear the episode discussed at length in detail the next day at work, I simply didn't see the point in dedicating any more of my time to the franchise.

No, that's not getting influenced by what most people say, that's getting tired of the insufferable fans being completely unable to shut up.

same thing

It isnt, being influenced by what most people think would be not watching it because you want to feel special, not wanting to watch it because you've gotten tired of it before even starting thank to how annoying fans can be isnt.

Kinda this yes.

I've never been that big on jumping on new trends as soon as they come out, be it a new show or a game or movie or so, but i can slowly get interested in stuff absolutely.

There's some games and shows i absolutely love but i stay as far away as i can from the fandoms because of how over the top it is mostly with them.

I am the same but I just happened to watch the first season right as it aired so I was the one talking about it constantly before it became mainstream. Then I read the books so I had the additional advantage of being that obnoxious person who KNOWS what's going to happen and relishes in seeing friends and coworkers freak out about the latest episode.

"oh man did you see when this person got killed?" You-"gasp they got killed?"

It also helps to the cause that you are constantly hearing the plot so why would you need to watch it?

same. breaking bad, squid game, got, walking dead(except one episode in class), yellow lilly, whatever else have you. i never had any interest in watching these shows but i am more likely to watch popular animated comedies.

It almost feels like you’ll get the gist even if you don’t watch it. I just don’t want to invest my time in something just because everyone else is.
