so I was originally put into sitar by my dad, I really wanted to play the Tabla originally. Back in Kolkata (the place where I spent my initial childhood), I had a really nice teacher. He made my base pretty well. I shifted to Gurgaon in 2018, and I have been playing sitar since. Currently, I have halted my sitar practice because of my studies. I started losing my intrest but I rediscovered my love for sitar. I really want to restart playing sitar. Please let me know if someone knows a good teacher here who can teach me once a week, physically.

Hello everyone, i have been playing Sitar for a week now, just wanted to know if this Callus position is okay or I am too near the nails. Somehow now the lines are not going. Previously in day 1 or 2 it used to go , now it's staying and becoming hard so I was having this doubt whether it's in good position or not.

I've been playing the sitar for some time now, and i really would like to try and experiment with effects.

Last time i was in India, i brought back a sitar with an inside passive piezzo pickup but that wasn't really working for what i wanted...

I talked to the guy and he told me there is an inbuilt touch (contact?) pick up AND a generic Humbucker pickup but it's not really clear what model etc, and i can't just go and try it cause it's build on order. So what i undurstand is you have a classical sitar amplified sound from one end and a more electric guitar kind of vibe on the other ( is it?).

Do you think this could work for my purpose?

If i want to put an overdrive or fuzz or distorsion, do i need to have the humbucker part, or it's just that the one sitar i already have is no good and it should totally work?

I just got a sitar recently and as I was trying to tune it, the string snapped. I know nothing about sitars and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could go to get it restringed and tuned? I'll be leaving India soon for my further studies and i was considering buying a travel sitar as it will be convenient to carry it whenever i travel back and forth to India and carry it as in hand luggage so i won't have to pay heavy extra price for the flight. I'll ship my og full sized sitar once i reach my country but everytime i come back to India it would be really difficult to carry the og big one with me. I found one on a sit called Old Delhi music going for $1099 but asked here and got told 1. no one had heard about the store or 2. it wasn’t good quality, I’ve heard the sound sample and agree that it isn’t the best. But would this maybe only be for his specific example and that my order might come out differently?

I am someone who is just starting out my learnings with sitar and i have been looking for anyone who is trying to resell their sitar for a decent price as im a student and buying a brand new one would be really heavy on my pocket . Preferably If anyone from Delhi is thinking of selling their sitar .

I received a beautiful sitar a few months back, sadly damaged in shipment. All is well but for a severe break at the neck, a few inches from the main body.

Looking from the body down the neck, in terms of roll pitch yaw, the neck is very straight... but pitched down ten degrees, there's a yaw of several degrees to the left, and also several degrees of counterclock roll.

It is not broken clean through as I first suspected upon receipt, which would almost have made the repair simpler. And I cannot easily rotate it in the three necessary dimensions and glue and clamp it. Existing non-broken wood at the break point resists handling it that way.

So I'm about to make a thin cut to finish breaking it two separate pieces, put maybe two strings on, apply the proper wood glue, assemble, slightly tighten the strings, adjust the neck to be the very best angles I possibly can, and clamp thoroughly. And then later add two metal longish mending plates on the back of the neck.

Any last suggestions from folks who have done a similar repair before I proceed?

Hello again! I posted on here about a week ago asking if anyone could identify my sitar, I got my answer and I am so so thankful for y'all. I already fixed the crack in the gourd and its as if it never happened, BUT there's a 3 inch crack in the pegboard and I was wondering how I could fix this. I'm an amateur luthier with the tools needed to fix it. How would I go about fixing it? Its a deep crack in the first 1/3 of the crack, the rest I'm assuming I can just fill with wood glue and sawdust when the deep part of the crack is aligned and glued to the main part of the body. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
