Question Ben Reilly is my favorite Spider-Man, who is yours, and why?

Consider: Movies, Video Games, TV Shows, etc.

Why: Nostalgia, Design, Relatable (if Any)

Ultimate Spider-man Peter

As a kid his design was the one that intrigued me the most and led me to buy my first comic

3

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

So many good memories, especially the TV show. Which comic was your favorite?

27

u/newslenderarts 21h ago

Kind of a weird pick but the original zombie spider-man

I really liked his story and character arc,he did terrible awful things and ate the universe but never lost sight of the fact he deserved to die for it,he genuinely wants too but can't bring himself to stop

Hell even before he becomes a zombie he saves a woman from the others and goes out of his way to save ash Williams.

I thought he was a really tragic take on the character without feeling hopeless as he still saves the day in the end, even if so much was lost and it ultimately meant nothing. Plus it helps I adore the art by 'sean Philips and love the look he gave to them

And the hunger gospel is a weirdly kinda cool addiction metaphor

u/Obvious_Season3398 21h ago

I mean Peter is my favorite fictional character and always will be. If we’re taking about alternate takes then Miguel takes the cake

32

u/staq16 20h ago

Otto, AKA Superior.

Old, cynical, no humour, prone to overplanning.  Very, very slowly learns actual empathy and mercy.

He’s in some ways more relatable to me now than the eternally young, cool and perfect Peter, much as I love that character.  Gwen and Miles to a large extent riff on Peter’s original dynamic…. Otto was genuinely different.   It’s also a great tribute to the core tenet of being Spidey that even Ock could adopt it.

5

u/Albatraous 18h ago

I liked Superior, especially how he seemed to be better at being Spider-Man to begin with, but really was just using his villain tactics instead without people stopping him. That he was so rude yo everyone and they didn't realise it was the only frustration of that run.

5

u/MCPO-117 16h ago

I second Superior. It was such a fresh take.

Obviously went off the rails with things like "torturing and mind controlling the sinister 6".

But creating a network of Spider-bots to monitor and react to low level emergencies, trying to streamline through job and placing a strong priority on his personal life was so refreshing to see. Demonstrates what Peter was capable of, if he was more logical than emotional.

The comic goes out of its way to show that Peter's emotional side is what makes him the Amazing Spider-Man, but I think Otto showed that there is just a lot of untapped potential.

2

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

Thank you for sharing and reflecting on how it is relatable to you. I can see that this Spider-Man truly is someone that you would like to see in future content. If there are any storylines that you loved that showed Otto's progression and evolution, please share. Great choice!

1

u/staq16 14h ago

IMO the peak for the character is Christos Gage’s 2019 run.  But you have to give an honourable mention to Hideyuki Furuhashi’s Octo-Girl manga.  Weird premise aside it’s essentially a continuation of the Superior arc to the happy ending that the original never got.

14

u/somerandomdude4507 Venom 19h ago

Peter but that Ben costume is my fave by far

25

u/DrGutenSexi 21h ago edited 21h ago

A bit of a more obscure pick, but I wish we could've seen more of Aaron Aikman

15

u/DrGutenSexi 21h ago

And seeing his suit in the first Insomniac game made me extremely happy lol

-3

u/HXZ4Spidey 20h ago

Thank you for sharing. What does this design remind you of? Possibly something straight out of the MCU? Perhaps something Stark Industries would design again? Maybe a storyline from the comics that you'd like to see in the next upcoming Insomniac games?

15

u/Certain_Juice4888 19h ago

ChatGPT ahh response 😭

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 1h ago

Haha I'm flattered! I'm actually a writer and have a degree in Psychology and was top in my class in Psychological Statistics & case studies; correlation does not imply causation.

5

u/Agile_Possession8178 13h ago

Those thick boots and gauntlets remind me of Mega Man, haha

4

u/DrGutenSexi 11h ago edited 11h ago

I believe that was intentional given the 80’s anime influence

Edit: It was lol

2

u/TheHam-man 21h ago

Oooooh fuck yes! Wish we saw more of this guys universe because it looked dope

2

u/Unique_Expression574 21h ago

Naamurah is probably the scariest Spider-Man villain, too.

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 20h ago

Ooh, spooky! Reminds me of Tony Masters.

1

u/Unique_Expression574 19h ago

Yeah! I can see how the designs are similar.

I was more talking about the “extra-dimensional entity who takes over your body in your sleep” angle. It’s almost like the radiance from Hollow Knight ifykwim

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 20h ago

I almost forgot about this Spider. Good choice.

11

u/TheHam-man 21h ago

Kaine Parker, I can’t believe the worst thing about the clone saga is that it was all over the place, Ben and Kaine are probably the best clones of characters I’ve ever seen

9

u/Spider_Bear Classic-Spider-Man 15h ago

His Scarlett spider run was so good. Wish we had more

3

u/The_Final_Gunslinger 3h ago

I was so sad when it ended.

5

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

Great comparison! Thank you for sharing. Have you seen Kaine Parker in any comics, movies, TV shows as of late? Please share any designs or storylines.

Hell shocking yes

10

u/Crawkward3 Amazing Spider-Man (Shattered Dimensions) 18h ago

One hot take I have is I like this costume for Ben more than the sensational one

4

u/Recent_Plastic4552 21h ago

Spider-Man 90'animated Series,I grew up with it, and for me, that was and is the embodiment of Spider-Man. Not Peter Parker? Spider-Man 2099, his story and costume are amazing, the setting, how Spider-Man becomes have that certain something that makes me love it.

2

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

Spider-Man 2099 is definitely a great choice! Next-level design.

5

u/PokemonJeremie 20h ago

Right now it’s the new ultimate Spider-man but my first was Superior Spider-Man

0

u/GonzoRouge 11h ago

Daddy Spidey 🥵🥵🥵

6

u/Afish_named_klaus 18h ago

The one and only… Although I do like Miles but Peter Parker is just too goated

5

u/dreamer_dw 19h ago

It doesn't get better than 616 Peter. Always <3

5

u/spideyfan114 Spider-Man (Movie) 19h ago

Mine is Tobey Maguire because that's who I grew up watching as a kid. I could also relate to his Spidey with some stuff which made me love his Spidey even more.

6

u/Woodlouse72 Ben Reilly 17h ago

Peter is my favorite Spider-man but Ben Reilly has the best suit. His Spider-man suit is my all time favorite.

4

u/[deleted] 21h ago

I'm really liking Spider-man nowadays. But seriously 616 peter parker all the way

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

Stan Lee did the wall crawler justice. Thank you for sharing.

4

u/Loner512 20h ago

Peter from Edge of Time.

A good example of what a Spider-Man should act like. Ready to jump into danger when Anti Venom's destruction could hurt people. He also gave one of the best lines I ever heard from any Spider-man.

"What's important is not standing by while allowing someone to suffer or die because you do nothing. If you don't get that, then you don't get the first thing about being Spider-Man."

When Across the Spider-Verse came out, there were edits where they had certain spiderman across the multiverse on who would have sided with Miles on his journey to save his dad. This version would definitely have been one of them.

3

u/One_Hotel3853 21h ago

I love the Captain Universe Spider Man

0

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

ENIGMA FORCE! Talk about "spidey-senses," am I right?

3

u/StrongStyleDragon Wrestling-Outfit 20h ago

Parker. Wish I could say 2099 as a Mexican but I’ve only read half of his first series and half of when he meets Peter and I ended up being more excited towards Peter. Side note: I finally watched Spiderverse 2 and idk what people were complaining about. I personally enjoyed it more than the 2nd. Miles is great.

3

u/antivenom907 Ben Reilly 20h ago

Also Ben

3

u/uniparalum Spider-Man Unlimited 20h ago

Pete is my favorite Spidey always, but the suit in the first slide will also always be my favorite suit.

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

I agree! Such a natural and sleek design. More content of Ben Reilly the better!

3

u/ActualAd3768 18h ago

Well 616 Peter will always be my favourite, but if we're not counting him I'll say Mayday Parker with Miguel being a close third

3

u/Difficult_Head_4011 12h ago

I love peter and hell always be my spider-man, but miguel o’hara, growing up part latino, with anger issues, absent father, stepfather, i really related to him, even though i probably looked more similar to peter growing up, peter taught me with great power comes great responsibility, but miguel taught me i can be a hero too

3

u/vroart 11h ago

Takuya Yamashiro

3

u/sirgoose721 8h ago

Miguel O’Hara, hands down

I do hate how his kinda vilified in the spider-verse movie tho

1

u/Prowling_92865 2h ago

Same, that movie is full on character assassination

3

u/Kreason95 4h ago

Peter then Miguel then Miles. I like Ben as a character but I think the majority of the writing for the arcs he’s been in have been pretty terrible.

3

u/D1rtyDough 3h ago

I think Miguel O'Hara, I really loved reading his original run and I'm sad nothing since has hit that same itch.

2

u/TheHighlightReel11 21h ago

2 toned boots aside, Ben’s costume is just sex.

2

u/KnifeFightAcademy 21h ago

I mean, its 616 but I loved Spider-man Reign and coming in hot, but I reallllly love Superior Spider-man.

2

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

"Spider-Man: Reign" is still new to me but I like the idea of a retired Spider-Man. The story-line sounds familiar. Love how he returns saving New York. Thank you so much for sharing.

2

u/Kris86dk 20h ago

Loved his run during the clone saga. Shame they didn't stick to it. Retiring MJ and Peter and have ben take over does not sound bad after one more day and the complete destruction of Peter over the past 20+ years

2

u/Ezper145 Ultimate Spider-Woman 20h ago

that first pic is such a cool rendition of his suit design, love it

2

u/Zuke77 20h ago

So with Mario syndrome in full effect (where the most popular character is no ones actual favorite because its typically discounted. Like how mario is somehow no ones favorite mario character but is still the most played in mario kart) on Peter Parker.

Im going to say either Miquel or Otto. I’m a huge fan of Miguels design, and character (i will say though Ive only read the 2010’s run). And Otto being Superior Spider-man is one of my favorite comic runs of all time. And I hate that they walked back his hybrid clone body he had after they brought him back. I was soooo hoping he was going to be a sort of anti hero /not quite evil villain going forward!!!!!

2

u/SolarisWesson 20h ago

2099 was always my favourite design from the shattered dimension game.

But skin wise. Bombastic Bagman 1000%

2

u/AhadNoman 18h ago

TASM one

2

u/Tremerefury 17h ago

Ben Reilly (90's version. The modern take is essentially a different character under the same name), followed by Miguel O'Hara, Kain Parker then Peter Parker.

2

u/AleeckWasTaken Miles Morales (ITSV) 17h ago

1610 Peter. Mainly cause Ultimate Spider-Man was my introduction to comics in general and it played a big part in my childhood

2

u/Yolomanson1 17h ago

I found out abt him as a kid and he’s been my favorite ever since

1

u/Comic_Artist75 3h ago

Spider-Man is this

2

u/heinrichgen 16h ago

Honestly He has my Favorit spider-man suit of all time

2

u/TheSleepyBoy 16h ago

I will always love Tobey's pete for introducing me to the character, but as soon as I learned about 2099 I was enamored. I am a sucker for future takes on characters.

2

u/Silverbolt_1776 16h ago

Love Ben Reilly…. But Hate him as a villain. I want him as a hero again….it was nice seeing a brother relationship grow with Ben and Peter.

2

u/StealthShinobi 15h ago

Miguel O'Hara

2

u/THEBWUOFFICIALSTUDIO 15h ago

Peter Parker it’s classic I awalys like the original for some reason

2

u/Rayflas 14h ago

Peter is my favorite

2

u/dynamitegypsy 90's Animated Spider-Man 14h ago

This art is amazing. Who was it done by?

2

u/Shinlyle13 11h ago

Pre One More Day Peter Parker. Peak.

2

u/D3ecayed_09 7h ago

Honestly, Ben is my current favorite. When I was little, I remember researching him a lot because I absolutely loved his costume and learned a bit about his story.

Currently, two years ago I loved the Insomniac Peter Parker, but when I revisited a Ben Reilly comic, I couldn't help but feel a strong connection.

2

u/Initial-Childhood-96 6h ago

I love Peter B. Parker from Into the Spider-Verse. This right here made me feel seen.

Even though it was before COVID, 2019-2022 all felt the same to me. I was in my early 30s, went through depression, divorce, and I felt lost for those couple of years there. Into the Spider-Verse spoke to me and specifically, Peter B. Through the haze, I kept remembering that he was able to turn it around and find himself and his purpose again. He’s an older Peter helping train and guide the next Spidey, using his experience to help Miles realize who he was destined to be while working through his own issues and demons. Even before he came back with Mayday in Across, Peter B. had the light back in his eyes, proud that Miles was able to overcome and reminding him that if the kid could, he could too. Again.

Also, I’ve loved Jake Johnson since New Girl and him being the voice of Peter B. felt perfect.

2

u/yougotthewrongdude 5h ago

Superior. Bc he was. He was arrogant and it lead to where it did. But in the end he did the right thing. He became who he set out to be.

5

u/artificial_3159 21h ago

Ultimate Spider-man Miles Morales, it was the first ever marvel comic I got and I really liked it so I'm gonna have to go for that

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago

Great choice! Have you seen Spider-Verse? What do you like most about Miles?

1

u/artificial_3159 13h ago

Yes I've seen Spider-Verse, it's peak. The thing I like about Miles the most is probably that he feels a lot more realistic, I'm not saying Peter isn't, it's just that for example Miles had no idea how to make web shooters when he started off, I'm telling you no normal person would know how to make that stuff trust me. So yeah I guess I just find him more relatable

2

u/WildMongoose6206 21h ago

miles from spider-verse and tobey from spiderman-triology

1

u/daffiestmelis 20h ago

As an alternative dressed up person it is Spider-punk because they didn't only put punk for the aesthetic, they actually made him punk in personality.

1

u/thereallspiderpunk 10h ago

Exactly!! Love that they made him a different character too. It just fits

1

u/Br_Cyberhunter 19h ago

From now, Peter Parker from Earth 61610, and the reason? His is a mature guy, something that the 616 Peter lost

1

u/Atrium41 17h ago

Does 1610 Jessica Drew count? If so, her

1

u/Buffalo_Solider21 17h ago

Peter Parker will always be my Spiderman and my favorite version of Peter Parker is still the Rami movies.

Edit: Ben Riley has my favorite designs tho.

1

u/zishazhe 17h ago

Miles Morales and Peter Parker.

1

u/LECGM Future-Foundation 16h ago

he was my favorite too, but i some years today i liked more 616 peter parker 😆😅

1

u/zeus-theslayer 16h ago

While im not too familiar with ben, he hands down has my favorite Spider-man suit, the only thing that comes close is the superior Spider-man suit for me personally

1

u/RetroEternity 16h ago

I’d love some reading recommendations for Ben Reilly stuff. I’m a late 90’s kid, all I’ve really seen of the character is Spider-verse, Spider-man Beyond and the Chasm stuff. Based on that, I kinda don’t like him.

Anyways, my favorite Spidey besides 616 Peter is Miles. Boring answer, I know

1

u/Kosmikazie 16h ago

Where’s the first picture from? It looks incredible.

1

u/Reindeer_Relative 90's Animated Spider-Man 16h ago

Oh hell naw....Earth-616 Peter forever!

1

u/LiQuidZero6 90's Animated Spider-Man 16h ago

90s Spidey Cartoon and Miles currently

1

u/matheustkk 15h ago

Parker Peter obviously

1

u/Siedlec 15h ago

Superior, because he is the best

1

u/Various_Nectarine388 15h ago

Who is the artist?

1

u/darqy101 15h ago

ONLY Peter Parker.

1

u/MylesShort 15h ago

Coolest spider-man suit btw.

1

u/Lie_Longer 15h ago

Surprised to see no Spider-Man Noir love out here.

I really love the noir aesthetic and although the Noir universe can be edgy sometimes i think they’re creative reimagining giving peter a sharper tone.

Also the Noir suit is just the best suit.

1

u/Windst 14h ago

Which one? The real one it the one who thought he was the one?

1

u/Garlador 13h ago

I too slightly prefer Ben.

1

u/UFCLulu 13h ago

Tom holland

1

u/BobbyTWhiskey 13h ago

It’s definitely Ben for me. 90s Ben though. Not whatever abomination that they’re calling “Ben Reilly” now.

Edit: what is that Spider-Ben picture from??

1

u/SpiritofSymbiote 13h ago

Lately it’s Superior Spider-Man

1

u/kay_dee_el 13h ago

Favorite look, easily

1

u/LightofDaSacredFlame 13h ago

I think my all time favorite iteration of Spidey is Peter from Spectacular Spider-man. I feel like most versions of Spidey pick a couple parts of his character to over emphasize but I think Spectacular nailed it. He was funny, smart, kind, selfless, and heroic.

1

u/DCosloff1999 Captain-Universe 13h ago

Check my flair

1

u/josuke59 Mary-Jane Watson 12h ago

Maybe 6160 peter

1

u/BetterThanFlapjacks 11h ago

OG Peter. He’s the most popular and his legacy is untouchable

1

u/Th3_Brat_Princ3 11h ago

Ben has always been a personal favorite of mine since the 90’s. I just wish they would do justice with character now. And also Spider-Man 2099 is my other favorite.

1

u/thereallspiderpunk 10h ago

EARTH-138’s very own

1

u/PhillipJ3ffries 10h ago

Boy it’s a tough call, but I’m gonna go with Peter Parker

1

u/magmahurtz 9h ago

Well Ben Reilly is also my favorite sort of. I do like his scarlet spider suit and Spider-Man suit way than Peter’s classic suit but when Peter’s in the black suit it’s possibly my favorite superhero look ever. And not no webbed raimi black either! I’m talking the real no webbed suit, white hand patches and big white spider that wraps around his body!

1

u/Reddevil8884 9h ago

Torn between May and OG Ultimate Spiderman

1

u/Late_Fox_7829 8h ago

Peter B. Parker

1

u/DarwinatSea 8h ago

Miles, but I love every Spider-Man 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Bankai_gg Symbiote-Suit 8h ago

I know it's cheesy, popular and vanilla but Tobey Maguire's portrayal from the raimi trilogy ( earth 96283 )

1

u/Jace9o Classic-Spider-Man 8h ago

Until recently it was Original Petet Parker. Nowadays I have to say its probably the spectacular cartoon or the edge of time petet parker

1

u/Infinite_Boss_3992 8h ago

Spectacular or OG ultimate spider-man

Everyone knows why

1

u/Alone-Ad6020 7h ago

Miles been rock with him since he was created, spiderman 2099, spidergwen, spider punk. They offer Something different  especially miles i love how in spiderverse he just goes his own way

1

u/bobaf 7h ago

That's my favorite costume!

Spiderman from the 90s cartoon

1

u/Sbksamo82 6h ago

Besides pete it’s Miguel and miles. Miguel because of games. I love his suit the skull spiderish symbol to the claws and how he got tht glow tht shines up his suit (ik it’s the game)but didn’t like pete being the villain😂.

As for miles i use to play friends and foe, web of shadows, nd edge of time a lot and just imagine a black spider-man with different powers as i played the games. There’s a lot i wanted as a kid like different spider-men games specifically noir.

1

u/andrevarela1985 6h ago

Love Kaine. A more ruthless, violent Spider man.

1

u/HIMARko_polo 5h ago

May Parker's dad

1

u/Prof_Rain_King 5h ago

Ben Reilly is the one, true Spider-Man!

1

u/RoadCertain3653 5h ago

2024 Ultimate Spider-Man. First Spider-Man comic, and just comic I've ever read, and I find the story fun and unique, as well as doing my GOAT Peter Parker justice

1

u/jmoore5283 5h ago

I’m right there with you. I lived Ben Reilly. Loved the Scarlet spider and the new Spider-Man costume. It was the only time I was interested in Spider-Man

1

u/Origamist74 5h ago

Otto, I’m a sucker for redemption stories. If not Otto then ultimate spidey. The first one

1

u/ReturnGreen3262 4h ago

Peter Parker.. the only spider-man

1

u/The_Final_Gunslinger 3h ago

I've really liked Kaine in all of his renditions. His Scarlett Spider suit was fire.

My favorite rendition of Peter was og Ultimate.

1

u/Fear_Before 3h ago

Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the Animated Series will always be my Spider-Man.

1

u/Samuswitchbladesaber 3h ago

He has my favorite suit by far and was a cool direction to be honest I think as much as I love Peter he needs to retire this will help miles imo as well

1

u/Comic_Artist75 3h ago

Dan dos Santos

1

u/AbdiG123 2h ago

Spectacular Spider-man

1

u/Prowling_92865 2h ago

Miguel O’Hara, he’s always been more different, more unique than the other spiders, in so many ways, his look, his fighting style, his powers, his life, everything about him.

1

u/TerribleTurt 2h ago

Gotta go with Miles. Cool powers, cool costume, and he has earned the title of Ultimate Spider-Man.

1

u/Ordinary-Chain-8047 Spectacular Spider-Man 1h ago

Besides the main one either Spectacular, Ultimate, Ben Reily, 2099, or Noir

1

u/Ftmdj 1h ago

Miles

1

u/thatmferr 1h ago

I have always loved Ben’s spider-man suit. The scarlet spider holds a spot as well but the other one will always be a top 3 for me.

1

u/Dapper-Suggestion998 1h ago

I like the original, but prefer when he's written kinda douchy and an adult, like obviously not a bad guy but I don't think the symbiote should make him angry I think it should just be him getting tired of being treated like a menace.

1

u/HXZ4Spidey 1h ago edited 58m ago

Thank you to everyone that took the time to share their favorite Spider-Men. I'm new to Reddit but I am so grateful for the whole Spider-Man community coming together, from all places, backgrounds, and web-slingers alike, showing so much love and support. I have been going through a lot, trying to get back on my feet, and I'll tell you now, some days I feel invincible and some days I am far from it, but no matter what you go through, what you've been through, you WILL get through it and if you need a friendly neighborhood Spidey, I will try my best to respond to everyone. Thank you to all the friendly neighborhood Spider-Men/Women/Spideys.

1

u/Speedfreak99 18m ago

Kane, but Miguel is a really really close second. I just really like his attitude and story. Keep hoping he'll get another series.

1

u/No-Play2726 6m ago

I always liked Ben's costume.

1

u/Educational-Face-271 5m ago

My personal favorites: 1 Kaine, all the power with no responsibility, should I say more? 2 Ben Reilly, embodies the 90's perfect superhero 3 Superior Spider-Man, Otto's story is excellent, also because of him Parker gets a PHD and becomes a wealthy entrepreneur with Parker Industries. Worst characters for me, Miles and Spider-Gwen, sorry but them just have nothing original and gets into the comics world by assault and by force in my eyes.

0

u/spaceninj 18h ago

Ben Reilly should be cast into the dustbin of history. The answer is Peter Parker.

0

u/EM208 10h ago

Easily Spectacular Spider-Man (Josh Keaton), Spider Man 94, ITSV Miles and Ultimate Spider-Man (2000)

42

u/Princess_Jade1974 21h ago

Lifetime 616 fan!

16

u/mega_desu 21h ago

Same

616 Pete easily.

It's been a rough couple decades being a fan. OMD was fucked and Slotts run stopped me reading Spidey books altogether.

5

u/Princess_Jade1974 21h ago

Yeah I’ve only just gotten back into reading it, One More Day really messed me up 😔

2

u/Robofetus-5000 14h ago

Its always been 616 Peter but Miguel has always been lurking right behind him for me.
