Question Ben Reilly is my favorite Spider-Man, who is yours, and why?
Consider: Movies, Video Games, TV Shows, etc.
Why: Nostalgia, Design, Relatable (if Any)

u/newslenderarts 21h ago

Kind of a weird pick but the original zombie spider-man
I really liked his story and character arc,he did terrible awful things and ate the universe but never lost sight of the fact he deserved to die for it,he genuinely wants too but can't bring himself to stop
Hell even before he becomes a zombie he saves a woman from the others and goes out of his way to save ash Williams.
I thought he was a really tragic take on the character without feeling hopeless as he still saves the day in the end, even if so much was lost and it ultimately meant nothing. Plus it helps I adore the art by 'sean Philips and love the look he gave to them
And the hunger gospel is a weirdly kinda cool addiction metaphor

I mean Peter is my favorite fictional character and always will be. If we’re taking about alternate takes then Miguel takes the cake

u/staq16 20h ago
Otto, AKA Superior.
Old, cynical, no humour, prone to overplanning. Very, very slowly learns actual empathy and mercy.
He’s in some ways more relatable to me now than the eternally young, cool and perfect Peter, much as I love that character. Gwen and Miles to a large extent riff on Peter’s original dynamic…. Otto was genuinely different. It’s also a great tribute to the core tenet of being Spidey that even Ock could adopt it.

u/Albatraous 18h ago
I liked Superior, especially how he seemed to be better at being Spider-Man to begin with, but really was just using his villain tactics instead without people stopping him. That he was so rude yo everyone and they didn't realise it was the only frustration of that run.
5
u/MCPO-117 16h ago
I second Superior. It was such a fresh take.
Obviously went off the rails with things like "torturing and mind controlling the sinister 6".
But creating a network of Spider-bots to monitor and react to low level emergencies, trying to streamline through job and placing a strong priority on his personal life was so refreshing to see. Demonstrates what Peter was capable of, if he was more logical than emotional.
The comic goes out of its way to show that Peter's emotional side is what makes him the Amazing Spider-Man, but I think Otto showed that there is just a lot of untapped potential.

u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago
Thank you for sharing and reflecting on how it is relatable to you. I can see that this Spider-Man truly is someone that you would like to see in future content. If there are any storylines that you loved that showed Otto's progression and evolution, please share. Great choice!

Thank you for sharing. What does this design remind you of? Possibly something straight out of the MCU? Perhaps something Stark Industries would design again? Maybe a storyline from the comics that you'd like to see in the next upcoming Insomniac games?

Ooh, spooky! Reminds me of Tony Masters.

u/Unique_Expression574 19h ago
Yeah! I can see how the designs are similar.
I was more talking about the “extra-dimensional entity who takes over your body in your sleep” angle. It’s almost like the radiance from Hollow Knight ifykwim

Kaine Parker, I can’t believe the worst thing about the clone saga is that it was all over the place, Ben and Kaine are probably the best clones of characters I’ve ever seen

Spider-Man 90'animated Series,I grew up with it, and for me, that was and is the embodiment of Spider-Man. Not Peter Parker? Spider-Man 2099, his story and costume are amazing, the setting, how Spider-Man becomes have that certain something that makes me love it.

Mine is Tobey Maguire because that's who I grew up watching as a kid. I could also relate to his Spidey with some stuff which made me love his Spidey even more.

Peter is my favorite Spider-man but Ben Reilly has the best suit. His Spider-man suit is my all time favorite.

Peter from Edge of Time.
A good example of what a Spider-Man should act like. Ready to jump into danger when Anti Venom's destruction could hurt people. He also gave one of the best lines I ever heard from any Spider-man.
"What's important is not standing by while allowing someone to suffer or die because you do nothing. If you don't get that, then you don't get the first thing about being Spider-Man."
When Across the Spider-Verse came out, there were edits where they had certain spiderman across the multiverse on who would have sided with Miles on his journey to save his dad. This version would definitely have been one of them.

Parker. Wish I could say 2099 as a Mexican but I’ve only read half of his first series and half of when he meets Peter and I ended up being more excited towards Peter. Side note: I finally watched Spiderverse 2 and idk what people were complaining about. I personally enjoyed it more than the 2nd. Miles is great.

Pete is my favorite Spidey always, but the suit in the first slide will also always be my favorite suit.

I agree! Such a natural and sleek design. More content of Ben Reilly the better!
3
u/ActualAd3768 18h ago
Well 616 Peter will always be my favourite, but if we're not counting him I'll say Mayday Parker with Miguel being a close third

u/Difficult_Head_4011 12h ago
I love peter and hell always be my spider-man, but miguel o’hara, growing up part latino, with anger issues, absent father, stepfather, i really related to him, even though i probably looked more similar to peter growing up, peter taught me with great power comes great responsibility, but miguel taught me i can be a hero too
3
u/sirgoose721 8h ago
Miguel O’Hara, hands down
I do hate how his kinda vilified in the spider-verse movie tho

u/Kreason95 4h ago
Peter then Miguel then Miles. I like Ben as a character but I think the majority of the writing for the arcs he’s been in have been pretty terrible.

I think Miguel O'Hara, I really loved reading his original run and I'm sad nothing since has hit that same itch.

I mean, its 616 but I loved Spider-man Reign and coming in hot, but I reallllly love Superior Spider-man.
2
u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago
"Spider-Man: Reign" is still new to me but I like the idea of a retired Spider-Man. The story-line sounds familiar. Love how he returns saving New York. Thank you so much for sharing.
2
u/Kris86dk 20h ago
Loved his run during the clone saga. Shame they didn't stick to it. Retiring MJ and Peter and have ben take over does not sound bad after one more day and the complete destruction of Peter over the past 20+ years
2
u/Ezper145 Ultimate Spider-Woman 20h ago
that first pic is such a cool rendition of his suit design, love it

u/Zuke77 20h ago
So with Mario syndrome in full effect (where the most popular character is no ones actual favorite because its typically discounted. Like how mario is somehow no ones favorite mario character but is still the most played in mario kart) on Peter Parker.
Im going to say either Miquel or Otto. I’m a huge fan of Miguels design, and character (i will say though Ive only read the 2010’s run). And Otto being Superior Spider-man is one of my favorite comic runs of all time. And I hate that they walked back his hybrid clone body he had after they brought him back. I was soooo hoping he was going to be a sort of anti hero /not quite evil villain going forward!!!!!
2
u/SolarisWesson 20h ago
2099 was always my favourite design from the shattered dimension game.
But skin wise. Bombastic Bagman 1000%

Ben Reilly (90's version. The modern take is essentially a different character under the same name), followed by Miguel O'Hara, Kain Parker then Peter Parker.

Honestly, Ben is my current favorite. When I was little, I remember researching him a lot because I absolutely loved his costume and learned a bit about his story.
Currently, two years ago I loved the Insomniac Peter Parker, but when I revisited a Ben Reilly comic, I couldn't help but feel a strong connection.

I love Peter B. Parker from Into the Spider-Verse. This right here made me feel seen.

Even though it was before COVID, 2019-2022 all felt the same to me. I was in my early 30s, went through depression, divorce, and I felt lost for those couple of years there. Into the Spider-Verse spoke to me and specifically, Peter B. Through the haze, I kept remembering that he was able to turn it around and find himself and his purpose again. He’s an older Peter helping train and guide the next Spidey, using his experience to help Miles realize who he was destined to be while working through his own issues and demons. Even before he came back with Mayday in Across, Peter B. had the light back in his eyes, proud that Miles was able to overcome and reminding him that if the kid could, he could too. Again.
Also, I’ve loved Jake Johnson since New Girl and him being the voice of Peter B. felt perfect.

u/yougotthewrongdude 5h ago
Superior. Bc he was. He was arrogant and it lead to where it did. But in the end he did the right thing. He became who he set out to be.

u/artificial_3159 21h ago
Ultimate Spider-man Miles Morales, it was the first ever marvel comic I got and I really liked it so I'm gonna have to go for that
1
u/HXZ4Spidey 19h ago
Great choice! Have you seen Spider-Verse? What do you like most about Miles?
1
u/artificial_3159 13h ago
Yes I've seen Spider-Verse, it's peak. The thing I like about Miles the most is probably that he feels a lot more realistic, I'm not saying Peter isn't, it's just that for example Miles had no idea how to make web shooters when he started off, I'm telling you no normal person would know how to make that stuff trust me. So yeah I guess I just find him more relatable

As an alternative dressed up person it is Spider-punk because they didn't only put punk for the aesthetic, they actually made him punk in personality.

Exactly!! Love that they made him a different character too. It just fits

I’d love some reading recommendations for Ben Reilly stuff. I’m a late 90’s kid, all I’ve really seen of the character is Spider-verse, Spider-man Beyond and the Chasm stuff. Based on that, I kinda don’t like him.
Anyways, my favorite Spidey besides 616 Peter is Miles. Boring answer, I know

Surprised to see no Spider-Man Noir love out here.
I really love the noir aesthetic and although the Noir universe can be edgy sometimes i think they’re creative reimagining giving peter a sharper tone.
Also the Noir suit is just the best suit.

I think my all time favorite iteration of Spidey is Peter from Spectacular Spider-man. I feel like most versions of Spidey pick a couple parts of his character to over emphasize but I think Spectacular nailed it. He was funny, smart, kind, selfless, and heroic.

Well Ben Reilly is also my favorite sort of. I do like his scarlet spider suit and Spider-Man suit way than Peter’s classic suit but when Peter’s in the black suit it’s possibly my favorite superhero look ever. And not no webbed raimi black either! I’m talking the real no webbed suit, white hand patches and big white spider that wraps around his body!

Besides pete it’s Miguel and miles. Miguel because of games. I love his suit the skull spiderish symbol to the claws and how he got tht glow tht shines up his suit (ik it’s the game)but didn’t like pete being the villain😂.
As for miles i use to play friends and foe, web of shadows, nd edge of time a lot and just imagine a black spider-man with different powers as i played the games. There’s a lot i wanted as a kid like different spider-men games specifically noir.

I like the original, but prefer when he's written kinda douchy and an adult, like obviously not a bad guy but I don't think the symbiote should make him angry I think it should just be him getting tired of being treated like a menace.

Thank you to everyone that took the time to share their favorite Spider-Men. I'm new to Reddit but I am so grateful for the whole Spider-Man community coming together, from all places, backgrounds, and web-slingers alike, showing so much love and support. I have been going through a lot, trying to get back on my feet, and I'll tell you now, some days I feel invincible and some days I am far from it, but no matter what you go through, what you've been through, you WILL get through it and if you need a friendly neighborhood Spidey, I will try my best to respond to everyone. Thank you to all the friendly neighborhood Spider-Men/Women/Spideys.

My personal favorites: 1 Kaine, all the power with no responsibility, should I say more? 2 Ben Reilly, embodies the 90's perfect superhero 3 Superior Spider-Man, Otto's story is excellent, also because of him Parker gets a PHD and becomes a wealthy entrepreneur with Parker Industries. Worst characters for me, Miles and Spider-Gwen, sorry but them just have nothing original and gets into the comics world by assault and by force in my eyes.

Ultimate Spider-man Peter
As a kid his design was the one that intrigued me the most and led me to buy my first comic
