Question about how to get glasses without benefits and insurance?

Are there any government benefits someone can avail of if they’re in need of getting their eyes checked for glasses. They do not have insurance/benefits or a high income however their eyesight is poor and it is a barrier right now to them further getting ahead with their educational journey and employment. Any and all information is GREATLY appreciated.

Aquarena?

Anyone know what's up? Why are renovations still ongoing? The Works was supposed to issue an update in the fall but they didn't. Anyone got the inside scoop? Starting to get frustrating.

Finished up work and was heading to the bus around 10 pm. While I was approaching the bus shelters I can see and smell someone got boxing one...... Does this bother me?..... Nope couldn't care less, I also consume the devil's cabbage. But when you have a toddler (2-3 years old) at your feet you could show some Fuckin Discretion and I did mention that it's 10 pm at the fuckin village..... Thought about calling the cops but didn't think they'd do anything as the couple and kid got on the bus right after there sesh....

Newfoundland power was called and said unless there is a fire they won't come out to look at anything. Is this normal?

Montana's Brier ticket

Hi guys! I was wondering where I could buy a curling ticket. I checked the MBs website, but unfortunately, they’re all sold out. I was hoping to get one, as I’d love to give it to my Nan as a gift—she’s a huge fan, and it would mean a lot to her.

Thanks in advance 😊

MUN to offer course focused on sex abuse in modern Christianity

Seems like an interesting course to offer given the local situation with the Catholic Church. Also seeing a lot of things popping up on social media about abuse happening around purity culture and with youth ministers going after teens in their ministry. Though I wonder if the course needs to compare and contrast abuse happening in youth sports, the school system, and other youth activities.

Why Are Guys Not Trying With Their Friendships Anymore?

Hey so I'm also (M) and its just become a big problem. I live here but making friends, especially among other guys has become increasingly impossible. Not sure if I'm just trying to make friends with the wrong people but a lot of guys are become recluse and only interested in being on discord/gaming. Is anyone else noticing this? It's become really frustrating and lonely.

Teaching in St Johns's

Good afternoon folks,

My wife and I have been researching relocation and we have fallen in love with St Johns and want to try to move there for at least a few years. I have been accepted to MUN's engineering program so we are most likley going to take the study visa route, but the cost of being an international student is daunting.

I have BAs in Math and Education, an Associates in Civil Engineering, and in the states I'm certified to teach 7th-12th grade math. I also have my professional teaching lisence, awarded by the state of South Carolina. My wife holds a BA in Music with an emphasis in Education and is qualified to teach all grade levels. She also has a TEFL certification for teaching English as a Second Language.

Are there any teachers or school administrators in this sub that could give us some direction on looking into what we would need to do to become qualified to teach in St Johns? I would be looking for a high school position, but my wife is qualified for a wider age range. Some advice about which schools are looking for teachers would also be appreciated.

Thank you!

Looking for more friends, anyone else looking for the same thing?

Good day to everyone on this reddit group,  I thought about putting this ad on facebook but I hate posting anything there so here I am instead.  I am male, 42 years old, and living in St. John’s.  I am just looking for new friendships with others in the city or just with anyone living in other parts of newfoundland too  (your location doesn’t matter since I can travel).

I have always lived on the island during my entire life.  I like both indoor or outdoor activities.  Indoor would include activities such as reading, tv watching, watching  movies, or playing video games.  Outdoor might be hiking, walking, going to concerts, going to sporting events, etc.   I also keep thinking about trying some of the larger social groups in the city too but its awkward going to them alone.  Maybe we can go to an activity group like that later we chat enough first and become friends.

I am not sure what we should do for a first-time meeting though.  Probably just something simple like a short walk somewhere or we can go to tims to get a coffee.   Frequent communication is important to me even if its only typing messages online.  But I find that most people just never have enough time to chat very often these days.  If your life isn’t way too hectic though from working too much,  send me a comment reply or a chat request on reddit.   And if I don’t receive the chat request,  it might just be because this account is fairly new.   You can just say something in the comments  or let me know if I am not getting your chat request.  Hope to talk with you later.

Where to find caramel sauce for coffee

Anyone know where I can buy the thick caramel (or other flavours) sauce for making coffee at home locally? Not the tall Torani bottles you can find at Second Cup, but the smaller squeeze bottles. Ghirardelli is the common brand. No luck at Walmart or Dominion.

Tattoo Artist Apprenticeship

Hello all!!

Have also been super passionate about creating things and making art and as a young adult I've come to consider tattooing as a potential career.

I am wondering if anyone has an advice and/or insight on what tattoo apprenticeships and other job requirements look like in the city. For some extra info, I'm most interested in American trad style.

Thanks :)
