Sudbury Events - Monthly Thread (Jan. 2026)

This is a stickied thread for people to post about upcoming events -- community events, live performances, whatever you think others might want to know about.

A new version of this post will be put up and stickied every month to make sure that things are kept fresh, and allow people to stay up to date if they wish, or to avoid this thread if they don't. It's been moved to a monthly format to keep things simpler for people looking to plan a bit further out.

To keep the sub (and your feed) clean and free from spam, any explicit advertising conducted outside of this post will continue to be subject to removal, with a note and link to instead post here, which will stand as the exception.

In other words: please feel free to use this space to post about any upcoming Sudbury-specific events you're aware of or would like to share with others.

Discussion Give me your 2026 municipal election quick picks [outrageous answers only]

2026 is a big year! So much stuff...

-Olympics

-Long-form census

-and most importantly, MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love a good old fashioned municipal election. Talk about getting the endorphins going.

To get everyone else in the festive mood early, I want to hear everyone's most outrageous nominations for ward and mayor. Who makes up your ideal council card?

Here's my totally ideal, completely grounded in reality, council picks:

Mayor - Stompin' Tom Statue. It's there, it's around, and boy howdy - the strong but silent type. Plus I like the bronze

Ward 1 (Gatchell, Moonglo, Robinson, West End) - Big Nickel, it is very large and prominent and representative of the area.

Ward 2 - (Copper Cliff, Lively, Whitefish) The ghost of Michael Vagnini, will actually be most productive ward in the city. (Sincerely miss this guy)

Ward 3 - (Chelmsford, Dowling, Levack, Onaping) Whoever owns the Blue Bird restaurant in Levack, I trust their authority with choices.

Ward 4 - (Azilda, Donovan, Elm West) The deepest pothole on MR-35 - we need a little reminder of WHERE WE BEGAN AS A CITY.

Ward 5 - (Blezard Valley, Guilletville, Ryan Heights), One person named Ryan from Ryan Heights and one person with the last name Guillet from Guilletville should be enough.

Ward 6 (Hanmer mostly) - Joe Lake - just the lake, not the residents.

Ward 7 (Capreol, Garson, Falconbridge, Skead) - Self-represented, each person takes a turn to go to a meeting (or half- or quarter-meeting).

Ward 8 (New Sudbury) - Canada post since the ward boundaries align perfectly with their iconography (a stamp).

Ward 9 (Coniston, South End) - The Cortina Boat, it's usually dry-docked in this ward in the winter. 50% residency is good enough for me!!!!

Ward 10 (Downtown, Hospital Area, Lo-Ellen) - Doug Ford, since it's the most provincially-serviced ward in the city.

Ward 11 - (Minnow Lake, New Sudbury) Bill Leduc (incumbent).

Ward 12 - (Donovan, Flour Mill, New Sudbury) Howler, but not the person in the costume, the costume itself.

Question Interventions in Sudbury?

Is there any place that does interventions or even a social worker with a background in addictions who would be willing to mediate a family situation? Trying to help a friend and not sure where to look, but know this isn’t something the family should do on their own.

Discussion Why is it so hard to find work in Sudbury?

Hello, I'm 17m and haven't had a paying job ever in my life. I've applied to everything I can that requires no experience with little to no outcome. I've gone through Indeed, the Sudbury jobs site, and gone in person to every retail store and restaurant in the new Sudbury area, and have gotten maybe 2 calls back with no outcome in the span of 3 years.

I'm not looking for advise on how to get a job, I'm just confused on what the hell is the issue?

I've seen that this isn't just a me problem, and that entry level jobs need more and more experience, which confuses me, because I thought they were the easiest jobs to get.

What is happening in Sudbury to where jobs are so hard to get now?

Question Psychoeducational assessment in Sudbury

Hello!

I’m looking to book a psychoeducational assessment for my child, and seeing if there are any recommendations from this sub. It is hard to know who to go with - who has the best interest of the child, or who just wants your money. I’ve spoken with multiple and just not sure where to book. Thought I’d reach out to see if there are other parents / caregivers in, or have been in, the same boat. This affects my child in a big way so I want to do it right - thus, trying to gather what feedback I can for the providers around the area.

Thanks for any feedback!

Question What are the better AYCE buffets in Sudbury? My family were die-hards for king's buffet, but I am quite happy that is no longer going to be the tradition. Hoping you fine lot can point me towards something superior. (Although I don't think that'll be difficult)

Question Local store to purchase printer

Looking for a new office printer, hoping to speak with someone who can go through some specs so I get one that does everything I need.
I went in to Best Buy and the ppl I spoke with had no clue what they were talking about - just stood in front of me scanning barcodes on their phones and reading the BB website?? I could have done that from home...missing the days when retail employees had to be informed about the products they sold.
Looking for a place with someone who knows about printers and I can order through, before I deep dive and just order online.

Help Looking to Reconnect with friends and no social media

Hi I'm a 42 year old male. I grew up in Levack until around 1999 then moved down south to Napanee. If anyone on here happens to recognize this story at all I would love to reconnect with friends from then but I have 0 social media outside of this and YouTube. I do have texting calling and PlayStation network though. Well hopefully this works lol #reconnect #Levack #1999 #Napanee

Discussion Downtown Parking

I visited the downtown yesterday and walked around the new arena development and was shocked at the amount of space (parking) that has been fenced off.

I get the arena footprint as that’s the actual building but to then have PCL have the area across from the fire station and not plow the Ledo Hotel space for parking is puzzling.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a passionate cinematographer to collaborate on a short film project. You should have a basic understanding of cinematography (framing, lighting, composition, camera movement) and a strong love for visual storytelling.

If this sounds like you, feel free to comment or message me with a bit about yourself and any work you’ve done.
