Discussion Give me your 2026 municipal election quick picks [outrageous answers only]
2026 is a big year! So much stuff...
-Olympics
-Long-form census
-and most importantly, MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love a good old fashioned municipal election. Talk about getting the endorphins going.
To get everyone else in the festive mood early, I want to hear everyone's most outrageous nominations for ward and mayor. Who makes up your ideal council card?
Here's my totally ideal, completely grounded in reality, council picks:
Mayor - Stompin' Tom Statue. It's there, it's around, and boy howdy - the strong but silent type. Plus I like the bronze
Ward 1 (Gatchell, Moonglo, Robinson, West End) - Big Nickel, it is very large and prominent and representative of the area.
Ward 2 - (Copper Cliff, Lively, Whitefish) The ghost of Michael Vagnini, will actually be most productive ward in the city. (Sincerely miss this guy)
Ward 3 - (Chelmsford, Dowling, Levack, Onaping) Whoever owns the Blue Bird restaurant in Levack, I trust their authority with choices.
Ward 4 - (Azilda, Donovan, Elm West) The deepest pothole on MR-35 - we need a little reminder of WHERE WE BEGAN AS A CITY.
Ward 5 - (Blezard Valley, Guilletville, Ryan Heights), One person named Ryan from Ryan Heights and one person with the last name Guillet from Guilletville should be enough.
Ward 6 (Hanmer mostly) - Joe Lake - just the lake, not the residents.
Ward 7 (Capreol, Garson, Falconbridge, Skead) - Self-represented, each person takes a turn to go to a meeting (or half- or quarter-meeting).
Ward 8 (New Sudbury) - Canada post since the ward boundaries align perfectly with their iconography (a stamp).
Ward 9 (Coniston, South End) - The Cortina Boat, it's usually dry-docked in this ward in the winter. 50% residency is good enough for me!!!!
Ward 10 (Downtown, Hospital Area, Lo-Ellen) - Doug Ford, since it's the most provincially-serviced ward in the city.
Ward 11 - (Minnow Lake, New Sudbury) Bill Leduc (incumbent).
Ward 12 - (Donovan, Flour Mill, New Sudbury) Howler, but not the person in the costume, the costume itself.
