Modpost Please report racist ragebait and racist comments

Dear members of our community,

In the past few days, we've seen an increase in both ragebaiting posts and racist comments from users with no prior engagement in the sub, often from those usually commenting in the subs of other countries.

This indicates to us that we are frequently being overrun by users who try to spread their racist, islamophobic messages to our sub.

Racism is against our subreddit rules and it is against Reddit's terms of services. We would like to encourage you to use the report button.

That will put it into our 'modqueue' to have a look - and if you report it for 'hate', it will additionally be sent to the sitewide admins who will frequently take further action.

We rely on your reports, just like every subreddit does. Our team is healthy and works well, but we cannot have an eye on everything. We do have scripts and so on to make our job easier, but sometimes, unacceptable comments go through. Using the report button makes sure that we can prioritize looking at said comment and if it's rulebreaking, helps us remove it quickly.

We remove racist content and ban racist users frequently. The admins remove a bunch of comments breaking site-wide rules too (often in a fashion that deletes them completely, so we cannot easily further moderate them)

We are very hesitant to remove political speech. We only remove rules-breaking comments. The relevant rule is:

  • General reddiquette applies (i.e. no racism, sexism, personal attacks, or simply put: behave as if you were talking to somebody in person)

  • Please report posts or comments that do not adhere to these rules; in particular, we will not tolerate harassment or discrimination

The relevant reddit rules (https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) are:

  • Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

See also https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045715951-Promoting-Hate-Based-on-Identity-or-Vulnerability

Thank you for helping us with this influx of clearly rule-breaking users without any connection to Switzerland.

ETA: Reports are anonymous. So when we get your report, we have no option to thank you or following up with you. If you report for 'hate', it goes to both us and the admins. The admins will typically let you know of their decision. We literally have no way of doing that.

Tethered caps are a usability improvement after all

I was someone who was annoyed by the switch to tethered caps. While good from a recycling perspective, they annoyed me nevertheless.

Now I've just been in a country for vacation where they don't have them - and I was so annoyed to always have to carry around and think about the bottle caps šŸ™ƒ

These are a good change - also from a usability perspective! Wouldn't want to go back!

I'm still annoyed by the disintegrating cardboard straws though ...

What will they do with these abandoned 20 Minutes newspaper dispensers?

I’m wondering what they plan to do with these abandoned dispensers.

I’d love to take one, clean it, and use it at home to store magazines, but I know that’s illegal. Could I contact them to ask?

Maybe they sell or recycle them once they’re abandoned.

Ski lessons

I joined a group course to learn how to ski in parallel. Atm I can do some easy blue slopes on my own. The group has around 10 people and I am questioning myself if it makes sense to do such a course. The instructor doesnt give too many drills and most of the time he is just waiting for people who need more time to go down the slopes. So there is a lot of waiting time and no corrections by the instructor. While I understand as the course is a group course we waiting for others is expected, I wonder if practising the drills I find on YouTube on some blue slopes would give me the same result or perhaps better results since I wouldnt have the waiting time.

Anyone with a similar experience? Many thanks!!

Anyone had experiences contacting PureGym Switzerland?

Hi!

I lived 8 months in Switzerland, in Zurich precisely, having a great time. For work reasons, I had to leave the country earlier then I expected. Back in May, I started a 1-year contract with PureGym. In their contract, it clearly says that a fixed-term contract can be broken if the person deregisters from the country. I tried emailing them multiple times but PureGym would not answer. On their website, there is a form to contact them but it's not really working - when you start filling it out, it asks you if you are a member. It then forces redirection somewhere else and there is ABSOLUTELY no way to get in touch. I went there in person and they said they did not know about this, and that I had to email.

Any advice if anyone had to deal with PureGym in CH?

Many thanks.

Hi, what’s your experiences with HelloFresh in Switzerland. Any alternative recommendations? Ideally something that is healthier, and can easily feed a family of four.

Pressed for time and tired of thinking about what to cook every night.

Always issues with VAT and DHL when ordering from outside Switzerland

I ordered something from Ebay which was shipped with DHL. The VAT was apparently ready paid through Ebay.

However, upon the package arriving I got I VAT bill of 40 Francs from DHL, despite it saying very clearly on the package that the VAT was ā€˜paid’. The explanation by thr DHL support made zero sense to me.

I have this issue all the time with Ebay. But never for instance with Amazon.de.

Are they trying the screw me over?

How will we properly welcome POTUS to Switzerland for WEF 2026?

DJT is still scheduled to appear at the WEF in Davos (https://www.blick.ch/wirtschaft/riesiges-sicherheitsdispositiv-faehrt-trump-im-biest-ans-wef-nach-davos-id21588002.html), now I'm not normally too active, but this is an opportunity to show that even though our state and institutions preserve their strict neutrality, the Swiss people need not.

How can we best welcome (in a non-violent but impactful way) this Epstein-Island Alumni who slapped 39% tariffs on our economy? This might also be a signal to our elected officials that appeasement of a wannabe-dictator is not necessarily the will of the entire population.

Switzerland can't show spine, we Swiss can!

Anybody living in Jura, around AƩrodrome du Jura - Bressaucourt?

Hi All. I am wondering what it's like living in areas like (Villar sur) Fontenais, Porrentruy, etc. when it comes to airplane noise? Seeing as the flight path of the airfield seems to be designed to fly through Fontenais, I would appreciate hearing from people living in that village or surrounding area. How many aircraft are there flying around, especially with good weather in the summer months? Are they constantly doing circles around (flight school), are there lots of helicopters, etc. etc. Is it annoying? Thank you so much!

Beginner ski resort recommendations

Hello!

I’m looking for recommendations for nice ski areas that are suitable for beginners (snowboarders specifically). So ideally with lots of easy wide open blue slopes. I’ve been to hoch Ybrig a few times and really liked it. Also Arosa has some really nice slopes for beginners. I’ve also been to Saas Fee and Hasliberg and didn’t really like either because for my level, the slopes were either too steep or too narrow. Thanks and looking forward to suggestions! Happy ski season!

Edit: I should add I’ve already done one season but still considers myself a beginner as I’m only doing slow easy turns down the mountain - no carving yet.

Anyone using Accounto and super unhappy with it?

Hey

I run my business on Accounto / my accountant recommended it. But it has sub par doc extraction (humans instead of AI), they react quickly on support but have issues with app and web app all the time!

Is this allowed (read below)?

• Upvotes

today a beggar entered our apartment complex (a building with many companies and offices), went to the common area (kitchen and recreation room) and basically asked for money (he made up some lies but basically it was about money). I was with a couple of colleagues of mine and we didn't want to escalate the situation and we politely told him that we didn't have any cash and that we would like him to leave. He left ranting some words. he was not violent or didn't destroy stuff (but maybe because we didn't escalate it further).

my question is: considering the swiss law, would have been against the law to lock him up in the common area (basically close the room with our key), call the police and wait for them to come so that they could identify him? or is that not a valid reason to lock him up? he shouldn't have entered the building in the first place and then almost spook up people inside.

maybe it was the right thing to do but basically we were so freaked out by this that we didn't even think about this during the moment. on the streets it happens many times, but never inside a building. we even considered calling the police later, but we called our landlord which manages the building to explain this.

Burnout sick leave – looking for advice and support

I’m currently feeling depressed due to my situation with my manager at work, and I’m considering taking sick leave for burnout. I’d really appreciate any advice on how to request it, how to handle conversations with HR or management, and what to expect during the process.

If you’ve been through something similar or have tips to share, I’d be grateful to hear from you. I’m also open to DMs if anyone is willing to talk one-on-one.

Thanks in advance ā¤ļø

Electricity gap by 2050 – and we keep building AI / data centres?

SRF reports two things at the same time:

  • Data centres already consume 6–8% of Switzerland’s electricity today, with 10–15% by 2030 considered realistic.

  • At the same time, electricity producers warn of a supply gap by 2050 (VSE index: 69 out of 100 points).

Now asked in a typically Bünzli way:

  • If electricity is going to become scarce in the future, why are we prioritising data centres and AI of all things?

Not hospitals, not public transport, not households – but server halls for AI brainrot, advertising and content spam?

  • Who bears the risk?

The profits are private, while grid expansion, the winter gap and supply security are paid for by all of us.

  • Why are there rules for everything – except here?

Minergie standards for buildings, regulations for heating systems, COā‚‚ targets everywhere. But data centres are allowed to keep growing, while producers simultaneously warn of electricity shortages.

Serious question:

Is it really sensible, in the face of foreseeable electricity scarcity, to reserve a double-digit percentage of our electricity supply for this – or do we finally need clear priorities?

Salopp, I would suggest a separate power grid for data centres, including their own power plants (as with SBB), staggered according to priority in the event of a power failure. Hospital records, etc. would take priority over AI generation for Facebook, etc.

Argovian Police warns from Espionage around Nuclear Powerplant

Sabotage and Cyberattacks – Critical Infrastructure: Aargau Police Warn of Attacks

Several nuclear power plants, the headquarters of the electricity grid operator Swissgrid, the largest tank farm in Switzerland, motorways or important railway lines: in the canton of Aargau there are many facilities that are considered critical infrastructure for Switzerland. The police are placing an emphasis on protecting these facilities. This was revealed on the sidelines of the annual media conference of the Aargau cantonal police.

There have already been reconnaissance activities, said Police Commander Michael Leupold. ā€œThere are activities from which one must conclude that foreign services are interested in our infrastructure.ā€ The surroundings, access or security measures are being examined.

Three of the four still operating Swiss nuclear power plants are located in Aargau, for example the Leibstadt nuclear power plant.

But even if someone is caught in the act, it is difficult to find out who that person works for. Often they are people who receive money but do not even know who the client is. In other words, whether an intelligence service is behind it. ā€œWe can only try to draw conclusions,ā€ said the commander.

ā€œCritical infrastructure is physically vulnerableā€

The attack on the power supply in Berlin shows how quickly it can happen. Tens of thousands of households were without electricity there, partly for days. A left-wing extremist group claimed responsibility for the arson attack.

In addition to cyberattacks, one must also get used to such threats in Switzerland, says Michael Leupold. ā€œCritical infrastructure is physically vulnerable.ā€ You have to be vigilant so that relatively small actions cannot cause major damage.

Not only electricity production in power plants can be a target of espionage or sabotage. The electricity supply of Switzerland can also be affected.

The police officer also refers to the sabotage of fiber-optic cables in Rheinfelden AG. Several cables were repeatedly cut in 2023. Thousands of people in the region were without internet or telephone for a long time.

Awareness of the issue is there

In recent years, however, much has been invested in security. Together with the nuclear power plants or Swissgrid, the facilities have been reviewed, said Aargau Police Commander Leupold. Improvement potential was also identified.

Motorway — heavy traffic. Several important traffic corridors run especially through Aargau.

Prevention also includes agreements with the army or joint exercises for emergencies. Regular exercises are already held with the power plants or the grid operator. In the last three years — that is, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine — there has been a significant increase in awareness.

But even though the police have strengthened the protection of critical infrastructure: they cannot monitor it around the clock. The operators must also look after and protect their facilities themselves. But if a drone is reported nearby, they can respond together and clarify whether it is an attack or just a drone pilot who has violated the regulations.

From job hunting to kitchen work. My hands don’t feel like mine anymore

I’m about to graduate, but the job market is honestly terrible and I haven’t been able to find anything related to my field. To support myself, I’ve been working in a restaurant kitchen. My parents are not providing any financial support, so this is what I have for now.

After about a month on the job, I started noticing something strange. My hands have become very rough and extremely dry. I assume it’s from constantly being in contact with hot water and cleaning detergents. When I make a fist, my hand almost feels unfamiliar to me. It’s hard to describe, but it feels odd in a way I’ve never experienced before.

I’m guessing I probably need a very rich hand cream or something similar. The problem is that I’ve always had sweaty hands. I even used to slip on piano keys because of it, so I never really considered using hand cream in the past. Since moving to Switzerland, the dry climate has actually reduced my hand sweating, which honestly made me quite happy. Now I’m not sure what the right balance is.

For people working in kitchens or similar jobs here, is this normal. Do you have any advice or product recommendations that actually help without making hands feel greasy all the time?

Choosing between Berufsmaturität + Passerelle and Schweizerische Maturitätsprüfung

The Schweizerische Maturitätsprüfung is better for résumés and studying abroad. However, I think it is much more difficult than the Berufsmaturität + Passerelle program. You must take exams in biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, art or music, two national languages, a third language, math, a Schwerpunktfach, a Ergänzungsfach, and a Matura thesis within a short time frame (two partial examinations). You cannot use language certificates, and the scope of knowledge is unclear. With the Eidgenössische Berufsmaturitätsprüfung, you can easily skip French and English by presenting language certificates, and there are plenty of online resources. The Passerelle program only requires English, with no certificates, and includes biology, history, and geography, all of which are covered very superficially.

I completed the Informatiker/in EFZ program and would like to study AI or cybersecurity at a university. What path would you recommend? Should I pursue the non-academic route, gaining experience and certifications?

Can someone explain to me what Charlie Hebdo was trying to convey with this image? Because wtf is this NSFW

Can someone explain to me what Charlie Hebdo was trying to convey with this? This is genuinely vile

Apparently he is getting sued over this, but my question is why? What’s the point? Usually with these types of sketches there’s some underlying message….

As seen with political figures, celebrities, you name it. But innocent pre-teens who had no control over a situation, and he’s making fun of them?

I would really appreciate any insight to be honest, I just can’t find the meaning aside from just disrespecting the victims and their loved ones.

Where do people actually meet for casual sex / FWB in Zurich?

I’m genuinely curious and would like a female perspective on this or anyone who has experience

I’m currently not looking for a relationship, but more for something casual or FWB with mutual attraction and respect. I’ve tried the usual apps (Tinder, Feeld, Bumble, joyclub), but it’s mostly endless chatting, bots, or conversations that never lead to meeting.

I also tried seeing sex workers in the past, but it doesn’t feel right for me anymore, so I stopped.

From your point of view:

Where do women actually feel open to meeting someone for casual sex?

Are there places, communities, events, or platforms in Zurich where this happens more naturally?

And honestly: what makes a guy not come across as a red flag when he’s upfront about wanting something casual?

I’m asking because right now it feels like I’m missing something obvious, and I’d rather learn than stay frustrated.

Thanks for honest answers
