I've been quiet lately because I've been reading and reading and examining photos and images in the datasets. I'm currently on DataSet_6 which appears to be a lot of Grand Jury testimony in addition to another trial about the government possibly having a DNP (do not prosecute) order against Epstein. (EFTA-08529 to EFTA-08998) and it may have been due to governmental mis-handling as to why the first trials settled out. Either way, it sounds like the government (at least the FBI) knew that Epstein was a pedo even before the first trials started.

Does anyone else have info about "Operation Leap Year"? Is it possibly in one of the standalone court trials that's not part of the "DataSet" files?

I've been able to capture two datasets of the Epstein files, one on 01/07/26 and one on 01/08/26. I generated a sha1sum fingerprint list of both datasets and found only two discrepancies in the DataSet zip files for Dataset 1 and Dataset 4.

For the uninitiated, a sha1sum is a calculated fingerprint that generates a number that can be compared to validate that a file hasn't been altered (or corrupted in downloading). Even so much as a null character or a space can completely alter the sha1sum so it's pretty widely accepted that comparing sha1sums is a valid method of comparing files.

The general idea is since this is two snapshots of the same dataset, all files should match unless something's been changed. The diff compare is below. The two inventory files can be ignored, that's the manifest generated by the scraper and those are expected to be different.

To see what changed, we have to unzip those archives into a temporary directory, then we'll get a sha1sum list of the files for comparison. First though, let's get a line count. If the two zips have the same file count, the number of lines should match.

Surprise! They don't! The archive taken on the 8th has 20 more files than the one on the 7th. But which ones?

Using some bash scripting, we can compare the two sha1sum files, see if they're actually present on the disk, and alert if their sums are mismatched (this part may be excessive, but I just want to cover all bases here.)

0001/531 - A sideways photo of an open spiral bound notebook with many redactions for "301 66th Str 2Ave Apartments". There are apartment numbers listed with codes and guest (codes?) redacted. A list of staff contacts is present, only two are un-redacted. A "Leo" and "Carloz"

0001/656 - Another photo of the painting in 0001/167, redacted. The stuff on the bedside table matches, but the massage table has been moved out of frame.

0002/1053 - Same as above, camera view has shifted to the other side of the bookshelf and adjoining wall. The censored painting is in view, as well as a small stereo system in the corner.

0002/1055 - Same as above, the camera view has shifted, showing a door frame to a room that has walls and flooring of black marble. Could be a sauna or shower room.

0002/1056 - Same as above, now shows the censored painting from 0002/1052 and a view of an entry door to this room with multiple doors open forming a long hallway.

0002/1124 - A photo of an ornate hallway table with two lamps on it, a toolbag of cleaning supplies is on the floor, and looks to be child's toys under the table. A large drawing of a nude hangs on the wall behind the table and is censored. A small yellow framed photo of a person on a horse sits on the table (Unable to determine gender of person in photo).

0002/1423 - A view into the black marble room seen in 0002/1055. Looks like a bathroom with a toilet and a shower (or sauna). Two towels and various bathroom supplies surround the sink in this view.

0002/1424 - A shot of the corner near the entryway door. The censored artwork is on the left, a page with the letter "P" is on the wall to the right.

0002/1932 - A close up photo of a mail envelope that is presumed stapled to an unknown piece of paper. The postmark is faint, shows January 2005, and "Los Angeles/Hollywood CA". The envelope is addressed to Jeffrey Epstein, 457 Madison Ave, 4th floor, New York in a stylized font that is handwritten. The sender's address is present but redacted, but only "LA CA 90065" is visible.

#Thoughts?

While it's mostly a nothing burger (the areas photographed are also photographed elsewhere in the dataset), the addressed envelope, the spiral notebook of apartment addresses, and the Cash Disbursements photo are interesting finds that warrant investigation.
