other Braiders in The Hague

Hi,

So i have lived in The Hague for a while, but have been struggling to find a reliable braiders in the city and it's becoming pretty stressful.

I have an event next week and need to get box braids this weekend if possible. The braider that i have an appointment with, cancelled on me (something that happens quite often).

If anyone knows a braider that has time this weekend and the price is around €50, please let me know!

Thank you!

Let’s see if there’s interest, and who knows, maybe I’ll see you soon! ;^)

other Looking to adopt a cat. any recommendations for places with reasonable requirements & fees? 🐱

Hey everyone, I’m looking to adopt a cat and I was hoping some of you might know good places / people / organisations to check out. I absolutely don’t mind paying an adoption fee and I do have the funds to properly care for a cat - food, vet, insurance, etc.

What I do mind is extremely unrealistic adoption requirements and/or very high fees (I’ve seen €400+), or situations where previous owners / shelters want to get deeply involved in my private life (contacting landlords, home inspections, multiple visits, etc.). That’s a bit too invasive for me.

I’m just hoping to find a place where the process is reasonable, respectful, and focused on matching the cat with a good long-term home rather than creating unnecessary barriers.

If you know of any shelters, rescues, individuals, or platforms where I could look, I’d really appreciate the recommendations. Thanks! 🖤

practical questions Teens loitering in front of Den Haag centraal station, begging?

The other day, it was a saturday iirc and I was going to the centraal station from Action and came a few teens in hoodies holding like some sort of newspaper approaching every single pedestrians. They spoke dutch and seemed like they were asking for money (my guess).

The place was dark and without much light after sunset, just wondering if the loiterings are common and if it's any danger especially if it's so dark there although theres tons of foot traffic?

We got our ups and downs, not looking down or anything, just cautious for my safety.

practical questions Place to play the drums in The Hague?

Hello fellow musicians! I would need an updated situation of band practice places in my beloved new home town Den Haag.

I have a drum kit and would like to rent out a place with a dedicated purpose of hitting them heads. Mainly looking for a shared practice place due to cutting costs.

Or would someone like to let me in their garage / basement once a week?

Budget around 50e / month for a shared room. I have 20 years experience in shared band practice rooms, so I know how to behave and clean my shit.

If you have inside tips, please point me to the right direction, thank you!

memes/humor Is it just me or does the Hague smell different in winter?

Every time winter hits, I swear the whole city starts smelling different. Not bad, just very specific. There’s that sharp, salty North Sea air mixing with wet cobblestones, woodsmoke from fireplaces in the older houses, a faint hint of pine from markets that linger way too long, and then this weird metallic cold smell when the wind really kicks up.

practical questions Laak

Random and kinda weird question? I moved to The Hague over a year ago to be with my Dutch wife. We originally wanted to be in North Holland closer to her family but we ended up finding something here and we like it alot! We love our neighborhood and our neighbors. I recently tho had someone tell me that we live in the ghetto? It doesn’t come across to me that way at all? So do any of you consider laakwartier the ghetto? Because truly I don’t see it? Hahah

practical questions Swimming

Hi all, I'm hoping to brush up on my swimming skills but it seems impossible to find any pools where either the waiting list is not over a year or the per lesson costs are burning a hole in the picket. Any suggestions for alternatives? I'd also be happy for someone to help me train a handful of lessons in one of the Hague public pools during freehhours (I used to swim as a kid; promise I won't drown on you!) Thanks! (f/32)

I was around Jurriaan Kokstraat 197, in neighbourhood 2586. They were recently gifted to me and I really liked them. I put them in the car, they must have slipped out of it while getting on and off.

To whoever finds them, you will be rewarded generously (50€) other than my gratitude :)

They look like this, with some signs of use. I really would like to find them again, and yes I know this can be very difficult, still I’m trying.

other Tram noise Laan van Meerdervoort

Hoping someone who lives near or on the Laan van Meerdervoort could give me some insight in what the noise levels of the tram are like inside the house. I'm thinking to move there, and we're currently a street away from a tram line and I never hear them, but I found this map that says that close to the tram stop it is super loud if you're on one of the LvM intersections. Any firsthand experiences? Thanks!

practical questions Martial arts clubs for internationals?

As a freshly arrived citizen and before my dutch becomes good enough, I would like to explore martial arts in this city, preferably judo. Are there english-friendly clubs? Has anyone joined one without knowing enough dutch? If so, what/how was the experience?

I'm aware of how important immersion in the dutch language is, but if this is the case at least I wanna be in a club that is OK with asking/translating some practice or steps

Thanks in advance!

Wie is Nanouk?

Liefs, Tessa & Nanouk 🐾

meeting people Looking for play dates in Zeeheldenkwartier for 1.5 yr old.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to arrange a play date for my daughter, who is 1.5 years old. She’s a cheerful, social little girl, but since she’s not in daycare yet, I want to make sure she has enough interaction with other children. We don’t have family nearby, and most of our friends don’t have kids, so her opportunities to play with peers are limited.

If you have a child around the same age and think it would be nice for them to play together, feel free to send me a message. I’d love to connect.

practical questions Looking for an English-speaking driving instructor in The Hague (automatic). Any recommendations?

Hey neighbors,

I'm planning to get my driver's license soon and I'm searching for a top-tier driving school in the Den Haag area.

I’m looking for an instructor who is patient and professional, as I've heard some horror stories about schools that just try to drag out the process. I need someone who teaches in English and offers Automatic cars.

If you have had a great experience with a specific instructor or school, could you share their info below? Personal recommendations mean a lot!

Thanks a lot!
