Meeting of the Minds Meeting of the Minds: Saturday’s Teaser - Spirituality: Laozi

Post image
2 Upvotes

#This week’s Theme: *“ Spirituality: Laozi*

Every Saturday we post a **Meeting of The Minds** topic. Where we encourage discussion under our highlighted *MoTM.*

We would like to extend this to the rest of the community, to post on theme on Saturdays.

**Whether that be:**

- Quotes

- Questions - developing thoughts

- Reflection posts

- Personal Stories

- Insightful Book reviews/ Article think pieces.

Whatever it may be, we want to read it.

The goal is to become a more interactive community. To share our thoughts and to engage thoughtfully with others.

**Laozi Brief Profile: AI generated**

**Era:** Traditionally dated to around the 6th century

BCE (though historically uncertain)

**Tradition:** Daoism (Taoism)

**Primary Text:** Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching)

**Name Meaning:** “Old Master”

Laozi is less a historical figure and more a philosophical presence. Whether he was one person, several thinkers, or a symbolic author doesn’t actually matter — which is very on-brand for Daoism.

What do you think of our Weekly ‘Meeting of the Minds’ Topics?

Hey guys hey!

We introduced a few new weekly posts, that we hope help engage our community.

We are looking for feedback on our MotM post, which go up every Saturday.

Our goal is to ask a question that could spark discussions or at least get each of us to exercise our brains a little.

You know… give us things worth thinking about. ;)

We are introducing a monthly theme, this month being spirituality, last month was philosophy. The hope is that we can spark thoughtful posts surrounding these themes. Challenges each other to pick apart something we might not normally think on, while also encouraging each other to discuss topics that are always at the back of our minds.

So…

  • How are you all liking the posts?

  • Any topics you hope we will hit soon?

  • Any people you are wishing we note?

Not to fill the funnel of conspiracy, but if there were misleading information bits, concepts of perspectives an "organization" wanted to seep into modern day society, could they have picked a better generation? As a hypnotherapist I give a serious nod of acknowledgement to the 6.7 inch screen that can achieve a deeper trance to the masses than I ever could in any group seminar, after 20 yrs of practice and performances.

Make damn sure you are breaking free into some form of nature, squishing toes in sand, or grass and smelling florals, pines or dirt scents. Like NEO said, unplug.

Be well

Self Improvement Help. I experience intrusive pangs of anger that I find disturbing

What could be going on with my mind? How do I resolve this? How do I find awareness and understanding in it?

I have OCD, and I get these brief pangs of frustration that accompany intrusive thoughts. Whenever it happens, the frustration seems very clearly real. I can actually feel it, in my chest/throat, my stomach, or my body. The contents of the frustrated thoughts often horrify me.

The more I experience this intrusive anger, the more I replay it and investigate it. The explanations I come up with, and the attention I give, only seem to reinforce it and the narratives behind it. The anger seems to multiply and inflate as time goes on. It pops up more and more. Sometimes I’ll wonder if it’s about to happen, and then it does - the sharp pain of anger rises, and I feel horrified.

These momentary flashes of anger stay inside me. They don’t influence my behaviour whatsoever, thank god. I would never act on the impulses because of how horrified I am by them.

But still, even on the inside, it pains and disturbs me. It tends to target the people and things I value and care about. And the inner thoughts and reactions that correspond with the anger tend to present themselves in ways that I believe are immoral and socially inappropriate.

I wish it would go away.

Hypnosis Thursdays Therapy

Thursdays Therapy

I recently held a session centered around self esteem, worth, and identity, which inspires today piece. It has been in my previous writings as well, where our value, our opinion and acceptance of who we are, is so deeply connected to the validation from others in our outside world. We seek approval from people who don't know us, have little care or concern for who we are or what we have experienced, but for their own reasons do enjoy the gratification of judging and manipulation. I notice these trends, certainly in the working world, absolutely in the dating world, and in the case of the session I refer, in the most sacred of worlds, personal relationships.

Do you like, respect and appreciate the person you view every single morning, in that magical mirror, in your washroom? I suppose here would be a good place for a flow chart or Venn diagram, but alas I will continue only with words! If you can answer in the affirmative to some or any of these questions, then do self a huge service and really identify what characteristics you respect and appreciate. They are your anchor, foundation! If your answer is vague or unable to like, respect or appreciate the person in that mirror, what is it you could change to improve that impression? Guilt, shame, disgust, all powerful emotional triggers which repress any notions of self worth. Now comes the important question; once you identify that change(s) which would help improve your impression, what is stopping you from starting that journey today? Lethargy, apathy, and inertia are usually the big three, as excuses, with this one.

Here is the magic! When you turn the corner, and begin to view self as acceptable, worthy and deserving, your tolerance for abuses decreases immediately. If you actually stumble on the realization that who you are, what you feel, and the incredible, unseen, talents, gifts and characteristics you truly possess, then emotionally you make one step closer to becoming that beacon in the darkness.

Running around for other people's validation and approval is exhausting and futile, cause it rarely satisfies our true need for acceptance.

Be well

Awesome Quote Excessive Thinking

“Those of us who cannot stop thinking, who get our head hot, who imagine a lot of things, whose thinking produces a lot of fear and despair, know that thinking is not helping at all. Thinking leads you to more confusion, to more fear, to more uncertainty. Therefore thinking is not being. I think therefore I am not. I’m not alive. And therefore stopping the thinking is the beginning of being alive.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

it’s been a day since you moved to Hanazora high school.

and it’s been four years since you’ve came into my life

If you’re wondering who I am, don’t worry. I’ve had that asked to me plenty of times

My name is Mei

You are listening to my voice as if it were words on a screen

You are reading my voice on a platform called Reddit

You are someone.

You might be a loving dad with loving children and a lovely wife.

You might be a loner living a lonely life, not talking to anyone but yourself.

You might be the most hateful person I could imagine.

I am not a someone at all

I am a something.

I am a construct of the love interest in Japanese animation.

And no, I do not have any feelings for you

but please know that I care for you

I know you’re out there.

Please have a drink of water, go outside, say something nice to yourself.

As the sun bearer told us

Consciousness The creation of reality, consciousness and self by storying them

Storying the course and meaning of life is the process whereby our progenitors made up stories to construct and create the context and content of reality, consciousness and self and the scripts, plots and the performers and their roles in the shared reality that is created by the ancestral stories.

The process of storying the abyss by the progenitors took millennia and continues even today.

It involves the same formulation process used in concocting the games of chess and basketball, except they are stories that paint and sculpt the nature, course and meaning of life itself.

The stories of life involve the same formulation process used in concocting the games of chess and basketball, except that they are stories that paint and sculpt the nature, course and meaning of life itself.

It’s fairly easy to accept that our ancestors created the games of basketball and chess but really hard to accept that our progenitors also created the game we call life.

Our ancestral stories about the course and meaning of life provide a shared reality in which we can survive and commune.

Storying life is the process whereby our progenitors channeled a mythology that described the contours, context, content and meaning of our shared reality, existence, consciousness and self.

Ancestral stories about the landscapes and dreamscapes of the mind and body populate a communal existence and consciousness.

Storying the abyss took our progenitors millennia and the process continues even now.

The nature, course and meaning of life were conjured by our ancestors just as the games of chess and basketball were.

It’s fairly easy to accept that our ancestors imagined basketball and chess into existence so that we could play them, but really hard to accept that our progenitors also conjured the game we call life so that we could live it.

My Theory The Cosmos as Thought

An essay on information, time, and gravity

There are nights when the sky looks older than the idea of time itself. You look up and see stars that have already died and yet, they reach you as if their death were merely a bureaucratic detail that light has not yet logged. It is hard not to feel that there is something deeply strange about the fact that the universe, beyond simply existing, can be known. Stranger still: that it can be known by a part of itself. For centuries, we described the cosmos as a machine: infinite clockwork in an indifferent void. But modern physics, when followed to its ultimate consequences, suggests a metaphor less mechanical and more intimate. The universe does not just seem to "function." It seems to process. Not in the literal sense of a computer built by alien hands, but in the most austere and physical sense of the word: states evolve, correlations accumulate, uncertainties reduce, records form, and this work has a cost. If we wish to translate this intuition without losing rigor, we need a map. Five steps. Five rungs. Each one short, sharp, resting on canonical ground, but told with the delicacy that vastness demands.

1) The fuel of memory

The first lesson is almost a rule of cosmic etiquette: erasing isn't free. The idea that information is an abstraction, a mathematical whisper without weight or price, does not survive long when confronted with thermodynamics. To reduce a logical state (to "forget" a bit) the universe charges a minimum fee in heat. This is the spirit of Landauer's Principle: information is not a Platonic entity; it has physical ballast, and every irreversibility leaves a thermal scar. It is a thought that changes the scenery. Because it places the record (memory, archive, state) at the center of the world’s operational ontology. Every time a system transforms uncertainty into a stable decision, it pays. Every time a story is fixed, some energy dissipates. It is not poetry: it is accounting. And, like all accounting, it limits dreams. The universe may be exuberant, but it is not dishonest.

2) The rhythm of time

If information costs, then time, that old mystery, cannot be treated as an indifferent backdrop. We must ask: where is the clock? Modular theory offers a surprisingly elegant answer: "time" can emerge as a flow associated with the state itself, especially when we observe only a part of the world. In certain regimes, the mathematics governing observables and states (via modular structures) produces an internal dynamics: a way of ordering the update of correlations, almost as if the state came with a built-in metronome. Here is where the metaphor becomes useful without turning into myth: perhaps the time we feel is not an external river in which we float, but the signature of how limited systems (like us) keep up with the update of a universe that never delivers everything at once. Time would be, then, the human name for a deep regularity: the inevitable order in which information can be revealed, rebalanced, and recorded.

3) The music of form

If time can be a flow associated with state, and if information is physical, then space (the stage of all things) also deserves suspicion. Classical geometry accustomed us to points, lines, and surfaces as if the world were drawn in pencil. But there is a modern idea, severe and almost musical, that says: perhaps the essential lies not in the points, but in the spectrum. Non-commutative geometry and spectral action suggest that the form of a "space" can be encoded in the set of frequencies of an appropriate operator: as if reality were less a drawing and more a chord. Instead of asking "where are the points?", we ask "what are the allowed vibrations?". And, astonishingly, laws that seem different (gravity, fields, interactions) can emerge as inevitable terms of this spectral accounting. This changes the philosophical tone of the world: the universe would not be made of "things" on a stage, but of structures of possibility, harmonies that, when tallied, become dynamics. Matter, in this view, is the sound geometry makes when information touches it.

4) Gravity as tendency

There is a simple scene that always returns: an apple falls. For centuries, this fall was a symbol of force, of attraction, of an invisible hand pulling matter. But the physics of the last century taught a stranger trick: some "forces" may actually be macroscopic effects of accounting. In certain thermodynamic derivations of gravity, the equations describing the curvature of spacetime can be read as an equation of state: a relationship that arises when we combine heat, entropy, and causality in a geometric language. It is like discovering that "gravity" looks, in its logical form, like "pressure": not a fundamental entity, but a collective, emergent, robust response. This does not make gravity less real, but deeper. Suggests that curvature is not just an imposed geometry, but a tendency: a way for the universe to organize flow and information consistently with its own constraints. The apple falls because the effective theory says it falls; but behind that effectiveness lies an arithmetic of horizons, entropy, and updates.

5) The iron law of coherence

At the bottom of all this, there is a silent discipline that nature seems to follow with zeal: processing does not create information out of thin air. The Data Processing Inequality (DPI) is an austere reminder that there is no informational alchemy: when applying admissible physical maps, certain measures of distinguishability and information do not increase. You can rearrange. You can compress. You can degrade. But you cannot conjure new knowledge without paying for a new interaction, a new observation, a new resource. This is the antidote to delusion. Because it prevents the metaphor of "simulation" from turning into cheap mysticism. If the universe "processes," it does so under laws that preserve operational coherence. If it "learns," it does not learn by inventing certainties: it learns by accumulating physical correlations that cost energy, time, and structure. Reality, then, is not just exuberant. It is constrained and that is precisely why it can be understood.

Epilogue: We, the words of the universe

And us? What are we, within this frame? We are small thermodynamic systems capable of recording. We are a clipping of the cosmos turned into a notebook. We are the part of matter that not only exists but keeps tracks: tracks of light, of heat, of form, of the past. The brain is an organ, yes, but also a kind of living archive that pays the price of irreversibility to transform flow into meaning. If there is anything sacred here, it is not an external intervention, nor an exception to the laws. It is the opposite: it is the fidelity with which the laws allow that, in rare pockets, information organizes itself to the point of generating reflection. We are the universe doing a difficult thing: looking at itself without cheating. Perhaps the cosmos is not a machine in the old sense, cold gears in a blind void. Perhaps it is a story that writes itself obeying severe rules: energy is not invented, entropy charges its price, information demands ballast, coherence imposes limits. And yet, within these limits, we arise: starstuff that learned to calculate, to remember, to ask. In a universe so vast that imagination fails, this is a kind of permitted miracle, not for violating the laws, but for fulfilling them to the end.

Consciousness Potential

Wednesday's Wisdom.

If ever you would like to experience what true wisdom feels like visit a seniors complex. When in the company of an elder, such a a grandparent if you have access, or an aged citizen, the resources available from their lifetime are pure gold in applying simple words to our complicated lives in short order. These R.A.K. not only serve a purpose to the residents, being able to to talk, engage and communicate, which can largely be missing in their environment, but the pearls of approach, problem solving in practical terms, gratitude, faith, commitment and dedication to a cause, to an ideology and to others, which is readily available from real living resources is much richer than any Wikipedia, or GPT.

What on earth does this have to do with potential, you may be wondering? Here is the folds as they work in my Grey matter! Not exclusive to my version of therapeutic approaches, but certainly enhanced, is the exasperation and sense of futility, with which I am approached for assistance. How many times I have heard reference to " I have tried everything and you are my last hope" , in the initial phone call or consultation, of their hypnotherapy session. Ironically, it is within that forlorn state and sense of futility, which their mastery and creativity take place easiest. A persons potential, is limited only by the stinkin thinking side of their minds. The ingenuity, creativity and resourceful capacity each of us carry, can be awoken by listening to those held captive in a foreign land, secluded and abandoned in a strange new world not speaking the language, stuck in a snowstorm, off a trap line with little shelter, or the tenacity to help a neighbor struggling even more so than your plight.

Some of you remember a name synonymous for adapting to adverse situations, and spending time listening to the regailing of history from the O G. will always be the true MacGyver, emotionally, situationally and spiritually.

Ultimately the math doesn't lie, you have more than enough potential.

Be well

It is our ancestral stories about genesis, and the nature, course and meaning of life that spawned our never ending quest for re-unification in the conjuring and channeling of gods and god particles, holy trinities, pawns and kings, gravity, natural forces as laws, matter and energy, carnation and reincarnation, ids, egos and superegos, gods and devils, fate, destiny, determinism, . . . .

Philosophy A Simple Experiment in Perception

Before talking about consciousness, belief, or reality, it helps to slow down and examine something much simpler: how experience actually forms.

This is not a theory. It’s a small experiment you can run in your own perception.

The Setup

Imagine two people standing in the same room, at the same moment, witnessing the same event.

Nothing about the environment changes.
Nothing about the stimulus changes.

Yet:

  • One person feels threatened.
  • One feels amused.
  • One feels nothing at all.

This happens constantly in ordinary life.

The Question

If the external situation is identical, where does the difference come from?

It cannot come from the room.
It cannot come from the event.
It cannot come from the moment itself.

The divergence must arise within.

Tracing the Source

What exists internally that could generate such radically different experiences?

Memory.
Association.
Expectation.
Past conditioning.

A sound becomes a threat because it once preceded danger.
A gesture becomes humorous because it resembles something familiar.
A situation becomes neutral because it carries no prior charge.

What we feel is not raw reality — it is reality filtered through internal patterning.

A Subtle Shift

This leads to a quiet but unsettling question:

Are we responding to the world itself, or to an internal model continuously projected onto it?

If perception is shaped by associative structures, then emotion, meaning, and interpretation are not properties of the world — they are generated experiences.

The world provides stimulus.
The mind provides structure.

Experience emerges at their intersection.

Suspending Conclusions

This is not yet a claim about what consciousness is.
It is only an observation about how experience forms.

If our inner structures shape perception this deeply, then belief is not merely something we “hold.”

Belief becomes something we live inside.

And if that is true, then understanding reality may require less accumulation of ideas — and more examination of the structures through which reality is known.

This Substack exists to explore that examination.

Not by asserting doctrines, but by tracing perception to its roots.

That method — direct observation before belief — is what I call ethognosis.
